My husband is the GM of a hotel, and the brand is redoing all the hotels in the chain. That means they are renovating and getting rid of perfectly great items. We don't have curtains in our new house, so I'm getting the old ones for free!!!

The curtains are in great shape, but I hate the idea of hanging them in my house without cleaning them. I will wash the sheers on the delicate cycle and let them air dry. Can I do this with the blackout cover curtain too? There aren't labels, and I don't know what the material is. I obviously can take them to the cleaners, but I wanted to keep my free curtains as budget friendly as possible!

Thanks for any tips.

If you're getting them for free, can you just get an extra panel or two? That way, you could try machine washing them to see how they fare.

I've washed my curtains on delicate in cold, and dried them on low. They shrunk a bit, but other than that, they were OK. Those were lighter weight curtains, rather than heavy drapes, though!

I'm sure on delicate cycle with cold water they would be fine. Just hang to dry. :)

Thanks to you both!

poohfriend77 - I CAN get extras if I ruin this set. I don't know why that thought didn't dawn on me. I will give it my best.

LJSquishy - That's my best laundry setting - cold/delicate! I will try. By the way, we're heading to GEG in 3 weeks to visit DH's parents - they are in Cheney. :)

I have washed so many things on delicate that say "dry clean only" or "spot clean only" and never have I ruined an item. :)

Have a safe flight over here! Hopefully the weather will cooperate for you. :)

I have washed my blackout curtains, actually all my curtains & bedding, even my wedding dress in my regular washing machine. I use cold water/delicate cycle & hang to dry.

Good luck!
