Please give your advice as to the best character meal for my 9 Y/O nephew. This will be his first visit. We are doing Akershus breakfast for DD6 and would do something a little less "girly" for him!

Thanks!

I'd go with Tusker House in AK - it's Donalds Breakfast (actually I think they have other meals as well ... we're doing breakfast :)) but I believe all the main characters are there.

As the parent of two boys who have been 9 years old (and one who will be,) I'd say Garden Grill in EPCOT!! It's our arrival night tradition every time, and our boys' favorite WDW restaurant. It features Mickey, Chip/Dale and Pluto. We enjoy the food and the atmosphere is fun, but relatively relaxed for a character meal.

Now, Chef Mickey's in the Contemporary is classic Disney, so you might consider that, too. We've been there several times, and don't enjoy the food and atmosphere quite as much as Garden Grill, but I have to admit that Chef Mickey's is more classic Disney than Garden Grill.

We are doing CRT for my 11 year old niece.

Also doing Crystal Palace, Garden Grill, Tusker House!

For my 9 year old nephew..we are doing T-Rex even though it's not on the dining plan!

:dance3:

You can also do Cape May breakfast with Minnie, Goofy, Donald.

I would also say....CHEF MICKEY's - my kids both love the character interaction there and the food is normal American cuisine - which my picky crew will eat.

My boys loved 'Ohana breakfast with Stitch, Mickey, Pluto, and Lilo. They also like Chef Mickey's and Cape May Cafe.

I loved the fact that breakfast is served family-style at 'Ohana and you don't have to get up to fill your plate from a buffet!

"Ohanas Best Friends Breakfast" at the POLY--Stitch is all boy.
2nd choice but just as good--"Donald Safari Breakfast" at AK

Both are excellent and fun for boys and girls, have good food.

Teppan Edo is a GREAT BOY option at Epcot....

NO Characters...BUT you get FIRE and KNIVES....and ASIAN! How Awesome!

Hugs,
Mary

My vote is for Garden Grill (dinner) or Tusker House (breakfast). Chef Mickey's has great characters, but I think the food is better at these two restaurants.

How about Liberty Tree Tavern in MK. It's been awhiile since we were at that one but my DS's, then 11 & 13 they are 21 & 23 now, still talk about it. We had gotten last minute reservations. It had been along day and we were in the park. Just wanted to get out of the heat. My 13 yr old was wearing one of those goofy hats with the longl ears. Well Goofy came along and swipped it. Next thing we know Goofy is playing catch with Chip & Dale and my sons hat. That is until Minnie came out shaking her finger and scolding the three of them. This had us all laughing hysterically. It is still one of their favorite places.
The next place that comes to mind is the dinner buffet at GF. I know, I know. Cinderella. To girly. But Lady Tremaine and the stepsisters are the best. You never ever see them get out of character. Lady Tremaine will ask him if he is single and then inform him she has two available daughters. The stepsisters will fight over him. They shout across the dinning room, will pull each others hair etc. Generally a big scene it is a must do for girls or boys.

I wish they would do a villans dinner. Now that would be neat.

My son was 7 when we went last year, and his favorite two character meals were Garden Grill and 'Ohana. He loved Chip and Dale at Garden Grill and Stitch at 'Ohana.

In fact, we did a guys breakfast at 'Ohana the day the girls went to Akershus for breakfast, then just met up at Epcot afterward. Worked great.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions as well as supporting "documentation". Mary, I never thought about the fire and knives approach! He's pretty picky maybe this would encourage him to try something new! I'll feel him out a little!

Thanks guys! I knew I could count on the DIS Crew!

I agree 100%!! My boys were enthralled!

What about the Pirate and Pals cruise??? That might be a great idea for a 9 year old. We're doing that in February. Can't wait!pirate:

Donald's Safari Breakfast (no characters for lunch or dinner) at Tusker House. Really good food and you see Donald (greets), Daisy, Mickey, Minnie and Goofy.

Liberty Tree Tavern doesn't have characters anymore.
