Best chances for Christmas at 7 month mark

I already miss being single with no kids for ease of reservations!
I know everyone will have a good time regardless, we are still going to be on vacation

Agree with SSR, but I'd put VWL on my waitlist. Though extremely difficult to get seven months, the waitlist worked for us two years ago. Good luck! :thumbsup2

same here..we were SHOCKED we were able to get a 1BR at VWL the first week of december....We loved it. SO cozy! :wizard:

Thank you.

This is my first year trying to go at Christmas, and I don't think I'll ever do it again.

You say that now, but once you actually experience it I bet you change your mind. This year will be our 5th Christmas at WDW.

I hope it's a fun time because dd birthday will always be around Christmas so we will be doing trips somewhere every year.

Okay you are encouraging me! We have been at the beginning of Dec never at xmas and I am a bit nervous! I especially wanted to try after x-mas (12/26) thru NYE (1/5) to celebrate my B.day and everything in between!

When is your birthday?
We have them on the 26th and 27th

I am looking at booking a 2 bedroom for the week of christmas at a non-home resort and I was wondering what resort would give the most chance of success at the 7 month window.

We go to WDW every xmas week(for the last 6 years and returning this year). Our home resort is OKW so we always book at 11 months. The last 4 years we tried tto change at 7 months..we were not successful the first two, but 2 years ago we switched to AKL Jambo house (1 bedroom) and last we we wer able to get VWL (1 bedroom). I think success has to do with when xmas falls. We checked in on xmas day last year, but it did not include NYE as the other previous years..when the holidays fall make a difference especially when you stay Sun-Thurs nights like we do.
Good luck!
We are thinking of trying for VWL again this year at 7 months. We don't get too worried because we love OKW!

Most likely to be open for Xmas time is SSR (but not THV) because it appears to be almost always available even for busy seasons even at 2 months out (at Easter time at 2 months out you could get anything you wanted at SSR other than THVs). OKW is also likely. AKV depends but you should have a good chance if seeking savanna view at Kidani. One issue is whether you must have the night of NYE because that is one that is likely to disappear before others.

You should try to reserve exactly 7 months out and here is what may be a significant issue this year:

Those attempting to reserve 7 months out at that time of year very often already have 11 month home resort reservations that they need to switch because the points from the one ressie are needed for the new one if they can get it. You cannot do that switch on-line and thus need to call to change. The risk for Christmas time is the on-line reservation system that went into operation in mid-January 2012, and its impact for Christmas time won't be known until this year at 7 months out since it did not exist last year. The on-line reservation system opens at 8 a.m. exactly 7 months out and the phones don't open until 9. For most kinds of rooms for most times of year, that probably won't have a major impact. For Christmas time, an extremely high demand time, there is a potential it could have an impact. Those making on-line reservations at 8 may well get the rooms still left open at AKV and any of the near-park resorts, leaving those calling at 9 to do a switch at a disadvantage.

As far as whether you should do Christmas time if you have never done so before, it is probably something to do once if, for no other reason, to verify your worst fears about huge crowds and make you appreciate practically any other time of year. What experiencing Christmas time can make you do is exclaim, "Wow, are the crowds light," when you go in mid-July. We have done Christmas several times but do so knowing that there are wall-to-wall crowds. In fact, on New Years Eve, you actually get situations where you literally cannot move on the streets at MK or World Showcase. And if your child has a birthday during Christmas week and you want Cinderella's Castle for that date, you had better be making that reservation at your first allowed opportunity to do so.

I waited for my 7 month mark to switch to WL...last week of nov, first few days of dec....studio...NO GO...the first week of December would require a wait list, and two people are already wait listing a couple of days the same week..for two months already...so, I moved our dates to tue thru sun and was SUCCESSFUL....YEAH..

Last year I booked Kidani for Dec. 24-27 in a Studio on Dec. 22. No problem and had several options for rooms. I would think starting at 7 months out it should not be a problem. Depends if your a planer :surfweb: or like me love last minute.:cool1:

We were able to book less than 7 months out at OKW for a 2 bedroom around Christmas time. Our Home resorts of BWV and WLV were already booked. We LOVED it, and actually thinking of buying there now. Loved the convenience of being able to drive directly and park in front of your unit.

Actually I have had better luck getting what I wanted Christmas week at 7 month mark than T-day week.

I got into BLT two Christmases ago on waitlist while my one for AKV did not come through for T-day week. I had two waitlist requests in each time.

Good luck!

Ok here is an update.

I am now doing a AKV/VB split stay. Dec 19-27.

I have VB points so I booked 19-22 2 months ago.

Today opened up the start of the trip so I checked AKV and a 1bed value room was open 19-24! So I booked that and cancelled okw.

Now to figure out the rest of the trip....

So excited! There is hope to get VWL... I dumped my 1br BWV boardwalk view for dec. 19-21. I was trying for VWL or bay lake and both were booked solid but while I was on the phone with reservations, VWL opened up and I got it! Yea! It will be my first time staying there. We are making a short stay after a 3 night voyage on the Disney dream. Good luck! :cool1:

I've always gotten in at 7 months to one of my top choices - BWV, BCV, VWL, or BLT. Being flexible, calling earlier, etc. and you will be fine. If you solely focus on one specific type (so BLT MK view or bust) you'll be disappointed, but I have never had in an issue getting in at the 7 month mark with one of hose 4... This year was no exception.

I tried to get BCV and BWV but they were booked, or only had a single day when I wanted to be there. :confused3

I was able to book December 26th-January 2nd in a studio at OKW this morning. The only other resort open was SSR. All the other resorts at WDW in the studio category were spotty availability. I was thrilled to be able to book anything at 7 months. I was hoping OKW and SSR would be open and they were. DH and I were agonizing over which resort to book. I wanted SSR and he wanted OKW. He ended up winning me over in the end. He reminded me of the steel drum music they play by the pool there. We have never stayed there but one year around Christmas (before we were DVC) we did a little exploring over at OKW. I remembered the steel drum music they played by the pool, Jingle Bell rock, I believe it was, and I was won over.
Now the agonizing about what area to request!!!

That's why so many people preach to buy where you want to stay. Switching resorts during the busy weeks can be a tough prospect.
