We plan to start our vacation at the HRH. I believe Alamo rents out of there. But then we want to hop on to ASMo and AKL, where National delivers and picks up. I was planning on using Disney's transportation, since it saves so much time and cuts the hideous parking-tram-monorail-tram-parking lines at exit times, so I am not interested in reserving a vehicle for the full ten days we'll spend there. I was merely thinking about using Mears back and forth and for our hopping from resort to resort maybe rent and drag the luggage along, unless something else is a better deal.

What is the best suggestion regarding car rental strategies, would Alamo pick up at a Disney resort?

I think you would be much better off renting a car for the entire time! All that switching from rental agency to rental agency then using Mears, first of all you will be wasting alot of time picking up and dropping off cars and secondly till you add all that up, it would probably be cheaper to go with a 10 day rental from one place. Go on Mousesavers.com to their Ground Transportation section...it gives discount codes for the various rental companies. I will be saving over $100 on a weeklong rental thanks to this website. Even if your rental sits for a few days while you use Disney Transportation, I still think it will be cheaper in the end. Just a suggestion! Have a great trip!!

I think Disney will move your luggage once you get to thier resorts so maybe the solution would be just to take a shuttle or cab from HRH to Disney (Mears probalby does that, I know Yourride does)

After giving it much thought (thanks, Pug mom) I guess I'll rent a vehicle, although you won't catch me driving to MK and doing the hideous highway->parking->tram->monorail->tram->parking->highway routine!

I checked out National's Emerald Club reservations which, at least online, did not seem to give me DC's 10% daily off an economy vehicle! And besides, the shortcuts do not seem to work with that class of vehicle. So much for another DC card bluff...

I checked out all the sites with counters in the airport. Oh, Alamo won't fool me again telling me they are in the airport and then sending me miles away in a shuttle to wait altogether over an hour before I can finally drive out of there!

Dollar's beat other's rates, by quite a bit! I used the code in Mousesaver's site (gee, thanks again, Mary) and saved over $100 for our ten day ressies!

I called HRH's concierge who told me that they do not have shuttles to WDW, but Mears provides cabs costing about $40 - $45 per trip. I am not too trusting of cabbies, in an area where they could easily take the longest routes or busiest roads just to get a few more bucks.

So although I do not foresee driving daily, I will squeeze in a trip to the character outlet store, transfers to and from the airport, to the HRH, to the ASMo and the AKL. I overspend $100 avoiding the cab and Disney's resort transfers but it should be more comfortable to just pack up a trunk and go.

Thanks, guys!

Last year we arrived two days early and stayed at the Grovsner in the Disney Village. We just hailed a cab for $15 to the Contempary for our switch. No problem.
