Best Buy's return policy

Has anyone recently had to return something and didn't have a receipt?
I called to ask if they still had my item (a cordless phone) and the salesperson went on to say pretty much if I didn't have a receipt they would look up my purchase history but I paid cash and I don't think they would have a record of anything. I think the salesperson said they have gotten stricter with returns and I would need my receipt which I don't have.

btw the phone was purchased within the last month and is not working.

Without a receipt, the store doesn't know if you didn't shoplift it out of the store and are now trying to return it for cash. I know you didn't, but that is the reason they need a receipt.

Since it isn't working, try dealing with the manufacturer.

This is what I was going to suggest too. I just had to make a return a few weeks ago without a receipt. They just looked up my account and found what they needed on there.

They are strictly 30 days even with a receipt. I even tried to get store credit and it was a no-go. I won't be buying my new big screen TV there now.....they've lost a long time, big spending customer.
