I'm starting my son on cereal, and I plan on mixing it with water. Whats the best (safest) bottled water to use for babies?

Our ped told us to mix the formula with tap water so DSs would get the flouride.

Do you live somewhere where it isn't safe to drink the tap water?

Thats exactly what we did, per our pedi...

I just used bottled water from the store that was marked as "infant water" with my first son. With the other two, we get Hinckley Springs delivered and we just ask for their flouridated water. This was on my pedes recommendation that if they are going to be getting water, like with formula, to give them flouridated water.

I just use the tap water. We have town supplied water. She hasn't had any problems with it.

I would not give a baby or child distilled water because there are missing minerals, such as flouride.

If you have city water it's fine to give tap water, but I would at least use a home filter to filter out bad chemicals yet still keeping in the flouride molecules.

You can use the special infant water that is sold in stores, but it's pricey and I think the only difference is that it's filtered water - basically cheaper if you did it yourself with a Brita or other home filter.

Or you can always boil the water, but it's inconvenient and "kills" the minerals in there plus babies need to start building immunities and all that.

You can use breastmilk or formula. Of course, breastmilk might be inconvenient if you feed him at a restaurant. :D

use tap water. If you don't think your tap water is "safe" (I hope you weren't drinking it while pregnant), then use any bottled water. They are all "safe".

We always used tap water as well but for cereal I usually just mixed it with a little bit of formula at first.

It was 13 years ago for me, but I used formula.

Your baby's going to be drinking and eating foods cooked in your tap water his whole life. Better to get him used to it now unless you have serious issues with your town's water. Town water is often regulated more than bottled water plus it usually has flouride.

We're so lucky in this country to have a reliable and clean water supply - don't be afraid of good old tap water.

DH is a dentist. Definitely use fluoridated water if you can. Most U.S. towns and cities have fluoride. With bottled water you will have to check to make sure that has not been filtered out. With our dd's we used tap water.

We just took DS 2 to the dentist for his first checkup and the dentist said two or three times that it's really good that DS drinks tap water (we do use a Brita filter that lets the fluoride remain).

Unless your water is unsafe, definitely use tap water, or formula mixed with tap water. If you don't know whether or not your city has fluoride in the water (most do) just call and ask your dentist. :)

It never even occured to me with DS6 and DS5 to use anything other than tap water, but we have very good city water....And now that I think of it, my ped always asked if we were on city water. If you still have issues with your tap water, I remember buying little bottles of Dannon + Flouride water not long ago.

Good luck!
