Best Booking Method

Went to several travel agency sites to compare sites.
I found that they were basically the same prices I found as if I were to book directly with Disney. One agent I spoke with said that they would also include a basket delivered to the room, an Amex giftcard and would arrange all of the dining requests for me. The penalties/changing of dates etc appeared to have the same terms. If this is the case, what would be the advantage to booking directly? and if others have gone through a travel agency, what do you check for to make sure it is legitimate? This one has appeared to been around for a while.

I don't use an agent, so I don't have good advice for how to pick a reputable one.

If you use a good travel agent, they should watch out for discount codes for you so they can be applied to your reservation. This is a great benefit to using a TA. Some will also make your ADRs. Lastly, why not help put $$ in the pocket of a deserving TA - Disney will pay their commission to handle your reservation and it doesn't cost you any more. And like you posted, sometimes TAs throw in some extras, like a gift basket.

Now, having said that, why don't I use a travel agent? I'm a control freak, plain and simple, and like to be in charge of everything myself! And now I'm a DVC member, so I have to -- perfect for me!

Usually the best way to choose an agency or TA is by asking around. Many DISers use TA's and I'm sure would be happy to recommend a TA to you. I'd be happy to give you my recommendation as well.

As for extras most Disney specialist TA's will include a "gift" or something extra for booking with them. They also should be helpful in making ADR's, helping with itinerary planning, looking for discounts/codes and being available to you by phone and e-mail or whatever method you prefer.

Also, TA's are paid by Disney so there is no charge to you - as pp said, why not use a deserving TA it makes your job easier when someone else can do the work for you
