Hi DISers!

was wondering if there is any good/decent book shops in for example the Florida mall area or where the best places for books are?

Can't recall seeing a dedicated book store at the Florida Mall. I think there was a WHSmiths type store that sold DVDs, CDs and magazines as well as some books.
There was one at the Pointe on I-Drive - B.Daltons.

Borders and Barnes & Noble are the two huge chains.

There are branches of Borders (and Waldenbooks - part of the same chain) everywhere. There's a Waldenbooks near Macy's at the Mall at Millenia. There's a Borders Outlet at the Lake Buena Vista Mall (on the 535 between the 417 Central Florida Greeneway and the Osceola Parkway). There a Waldenbooks near JC Penney in the Florida Mall and a Borders just across from the Mall on Sand Lake Road.

Barnes & Noble has an outlet opposite the Florida Mall on the Orange Blossom Trail and another on Sand Lake Road just west of I-Drive and the I-4. After passing the Gourmet McDonald's (yes, really! :teeth: ) on your left, it's part of the next shopping plaza on the left. There's a B Dalton Booksellers (part of the Barnes & Noble group) at Pointe Orlando. It's OK, but not on the scale of a B&N or a Borders.

We went to the Barnes and Noble opposite the Florida Mall last year and we will be going again this year. It was really good - a nice size - not too big or too small. We all came away with a few good books each, much cheaper. Well worth a visit. It has a nice coffee shop in it too!

does anyone know how good Waldenbooks are? i noticed them in the Florida Mall Directory.

Waldens is owned by the same people as Borders, and is very similar. Many of the Waldens are changing over to "Borders Express" over on the west coast. You should fine a decent selection of books in there, but the range probably won't be as wide as in Borders or Barnes and Noble. :)

You beat me to it!! - We find Barnes and Noble the best of all the book stores - and this one is a really nice quiet one and easy to spot opposite Florida Mall:thumbsup2

Barnes and Noble are always worth a visit for the lovely atmosphere. We prefer the one on Sand Lake Road towards Lake Buena Vista. Nice Panera Bread just across the road too, with great coffee and free wifi.

We also like Books a Million - there is an excellent store in I Drive just behind Sweet Tomatoes near Wet n Wild. Their discount card is good value, giving an additional ten percent off already excellent discounts.

Both are great places to visit at the end of a hot and busy day.:coffee:

I ran out of books a few years ago and bought a couple by English authors that had been thoroughly Americanised. It was quite an experience reading about characters walking along sidewalks in London and drinking sodas etc!
Think Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. What's wrong with a Philosopher!?:lmao:

The book stores inside the malls are very small and have limited selections. The previously mentioned Barnes & Noble store is across Orange Blossom Trail from the Florida Mall. That would be convenient to anyone in the mall area.

I think the largest book store of all of those in Orlando is the one mentioned by Revtel......BOOKS-A-MILLION. The place is huge and well-organized; lots of bargain books too. Located at the junction of I-4 and Kirkman Road and International Drive, adjacent Office Depot.

Books a Million is a very large store on International Drive next door to Michaels craft shop.

Going towards Belz outlets it is on your left ( further down than Sandlake road)

We always shop there and the prices are great.

The Waldenbooks in Florida Mall is fairly small but doesn't have too bad a selection. There is a huge Borders opposite Florida Mall which is great fun to wander round. I'm obviously going to have to look for the Barnes and Noble outlet as I haven't seen that one but have had some bargains from the Borders one at LBV.
