We need to make up our minds for our excursions in next couple of days. We went to trunk bay last time and were wondering if any of the other beaches at st. John were as nice. we just want to swim and snorkel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Barb

Cinnamon Bay next to Trunk Bay was were we went. It was peaceful, uncrowded and had facilities and a shop to buy snacks and souvenirs. I absolutely loved it. We snorkeled out to a rock formation not too far from shore and saw beautiful fish and coral.

We rented a jeep on St. Thomas and immediately drove over to St. John. All the beaches there are beautiful! We just drove til we saw a secluded one, then snorkeled there all by ourselves! It was beautiful!!! The highlight of our trip!

I'll second the vote for Cinnamon Bay. Like Trunk Bay, but without the crowds. One of my favorite beaches in the Caribbean.

Rhonda, there is a car ferry, right? Was it expensive?

Cinnamon is a very nice beach :) We rented a jeep and took a tour of the island, stopping at a few beaches along the way. It's a beautiful island!

Yes, there is a car ferry. Actually, we got on one that was bringing big trucks back and forth. We were the only car! We sat out on top of the jeep and watched the islands - it was beautiful! I don't remember the cost - I think about $20 round trip.

We took the “St. John Barefoot Sail and Snorkel” excursion. You take a catamaran over to St. John and we snorkeled off of Honeymoon Beach (I think they may go do different areas depending upon the conditions). We actually anchored off shore and snorkeled off of the boat. You could swim to the beach if you wanted to. We had a fantastic time. The boat and crew and snacks and drinks were all very good. We recommend this excursion. If there is a next time for us we will do the Trunk Bay excursion.

Cinnamon Bay is beautiful. We stayed at Cinnamon Bay Campground 5.5 years ago for 9 days. It was a fantastic experience (and for only $15 per night)! We visited Trunk Bay one day and couldn't believe that people rave about it. It was pretty, but it couldn't come close to comparing to Cinnamon Bay.
Also, make sure you leave time to walk around town. There are some really nice stores close to the ferry docks with very nice clothes, arts and crafts. And don't forget to buy a frozen drink from one of the open-air bars at the docks.

My favorite beach is Hawksnest Beach. It is usually deserted and just so peaceful. The trees come up pretty close to the water, so there is TONS of shade there, a big plus for a fair skinned person like me. When we stayed in St. John for 2 weeks, we traversed all the beaches, and this was by far the nicest one. It's also the one favored by the St. John locals, for it's seclusion!!

That is a beautiful beach too! I would rent a car and drive around to all the beautiful beaches. Don't just stay at one, there is so much to offer.
