Wish IOA had a bus system for those at a nearby disney stop...they'd make a killing, but since they dont...

Which is the best way to get to IOA from Port Orleans. I cant rent a car that day, with parking and having to hike somewhere to get a car...well ugh.

Any help would be appreciated :) were a family of 4 thinking of going Oct 3.

thanks :)

is there public transportation??

Not really. You take a bus all the way to downtown Orlando, then take a bus back to IOA--I've heard that is a two-hour trip. Or you can take a bus to Sea World, get off there, and hop the fake I-Drive trolley, but that drops you a block or two away from Universal. I can't imagine it is very fast, either.

I believe Mears does some sort of shuttle service (tho it's not cheap); probably your best bet short of renting a car.

The Best way is a taxi.
Another alternative is to catch the Lynx bus that will take you to I-drive (I can't remember the Lynx bus number, but it will stop at Stop 38 on the I-ride line. Then take the I-ride north to stop 15 (Wet and Wild) and walk across the bridge. There is a bit of walking to this, but I have had guests do this alot and they say it works, and I think it would be faster than rerouting all the way downtown on the bus.

Good post. I'm sure people can use the Lynx bus to get from IOA to Disney, but it involves time, and some walking. To go back and forth from SWF to Disney is easy, you take the #50 from the TTC.

The onsite hotels have a shuttle to SWF. So in theory, someone could take the hotel bus to SWF, and then you'd catch the Lynx #50 to finish the trip.

But that would involve a couple hours of waiting, walking, and traveling. Not fun to do when dragging kids.

How are you getting to Disney if you are not renting a car?

My sister was at Disney last week and they made the trip to US/IOA two days. They looked at all their options and they all sucked, quite frankly!

They ended up going with the taxi which was $45/each way. They had the buy 2 days/get three free tickets but only went 2 days. They just couldn't justify the $90 round trip when they could jump on the monorail right inside their hotel & be at Disney, know what I mean?

They did love Universal, though.....she said it was a total blast.

Option 1
Mears: $15.00 PP RT

The day before you wish to go to Universal call from your room phone or any Disney House phone dial "0". When the operator answers, ask to be transferred to Mears.

When Mears picks up, tell them you want to go to Universal the next day, how many in your party, what resort you are staying at, and approximately what time you wish to leave.

They will give you a pickup time, location, and a confirmation #. Be at the front of your resort 15 minutes before the time they state the next morning.

Pay the driver $15.00 PP CASH upon boarding. (If you know you want to use Mears, you can stop by the Mears desk at the airport and purchase the vouchers in advance with a credit card, but you still have to call for reservations the day before).

When you arrive at Universal, you can arrange with the driver for a pickup time right then or take the stub they give you with their phone # and call them 2 hours before you are ready to return to your resort.

Option 2:
Cab - Approximately $30 - 40 one way, up to 7 people (in a van taxi). Go to bell services of your resort when you wish to leave.

When you wish to leave Universal, go to the taxi stand in the Universal Guest Drop Off area.

Option 3:
Many of the towncar services provide round trip transportation to Universal from Disney Resorts.

Must be arranged in advance. $50 - $65 RT, either towncar or van depending on number in your party.

Many people like Florida Tours or Tiffany Town Car.

Option 4:
About $3.00 per person, Lynx bus system.

Go to TTC and take Lynx bus, then transfer to Universal Lynx bus.

Go to Lynx website for exact bus #s and times. Takes about 3 hours each way.

Depending on how many people in your party you might be better off renting a car for the day from either Alamo on site at MK or Budget..nearby at one of the hotels.

If you shop around you can sometimes get a deal for less than $40 for the day. Alamo drops you off and picks you up at a WDW resort no charge.

I have not done this to go to Universal but have rented for one day for other reasons. Don't know how much it is to park at Universal.
