Best all-round lens for Disney for my Nikon D50

I have an old Nikon D50 that I love and was thinking of getting a new lens for my upcoming trip.

Right now I have the 18-55 mm lens that came with it, plus I have an old 70-210 mm lens that belonged to my old N50 and that sucker is heavy! I'm looking for something in between that has the VR(?) Do I need that?

Is it even worth it to get a new lens for such an old camera?

Of course it is worth upgrading your lens collection for you D50. You can always upgrade your body, but new/different glass will give you more bang for your buck.
