In a couple weeks, we are heading to DL to celebrate our daughter's first birthday! :yay:

DH and I have been to DL twice, but not DCA, and we've been to WDW too many times to count. But this is our first time with DD. I'm excited, but also nervous about what rides to do, if she'll like the shows, and all.

Any suggestions from people who have gone with a one-year old?

At 14 months, my daughter wasn't interested in too much. She liked Dumbo, the carousels, the Disney Playhouse show. She really liked the play area in DCA that had the surf boards and the boat you could walk around on. She liked roaming the houses in Toontown.

That is all I can think of right now. We didn't do parades but I would bet she would have liked those.

We took DS for his 1st bday last year. (It was his 3rd trip though).

*characters scared him (didn't on previous trips)
*may like the Playhouse Disney show in DCA
*liked parades
*like the fantasyland rides, suggest starting with "outdoor rides" like Dumbo/Carousel
*liked Bugs Life area in DCA (all outdoor rides)
*LOVED Small World

Thanks for the tips. We have a character b-fast booked, but I have already geared myself up for the very good possibility that the characters will scare her.

Maybe you should do the character meat at Ariels Grotto. They princesses are all face characters so they are not dressed up in big costumes

Get her a birthday card and have the characters sign it for her.

At 6 months old our ds wasnt bothered by much of anything at the park but at 1 yr old he didnt like much... he did really like IASM and Jungle Cruise, he seemed entertained on TSMM and Buzz, he SCREAMED through Dumbo, Peter Pan, Pirates, HM, (and yes I wasnt surprised but with our other kids wanting to go on the rides we took him, too and actually the first ride of Pirates he was fine it was all the rest of the times we rode it he didnt like it) he also wasnt a fan of meeting Mickey. Good luck and have a great trip!!

We live in California and started taking our babies between 3 to 6 months old and then every few months. They are now 9 and 6 but I miss those babie days. We took them on everything. Pirates, Small World, Whinnie the Pooh, Peter Pans Flight, Haunted Mansion, Tarzan's Tree House, Buss Light Year, Finding Nemo, and they loved everything at that age. Innovations is a nice place to let them out of the stroller for awhile. About nap time we would go on Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln because it was dark and quiet in there and they would fall asleep easily. Then we let them nap in their stroller while we either took the opportunity to use the switch pass and ride one of the big attractions or shop or even just sit and have a snack. I would make sure you bring your own stroller because the rentals are not good for babies who will sleep in their stroller. In DCA Flicks fun faire has some nice attractions for that age as well. There is also a nice water play area there and in the Redwoods Creek area. Those are good for letting them out and giving them room to play. The Sun Wheel is also a fun ride for the whole family in DCA. You will have a wonderful time just relax and try not to cram to much in. The more relaxed you are the more you will all enjoy the trip. Go in late some mornings and stay later then go in early and leave early other days.

Thanks for the tips! We are definitely planning on taking it slow and easy. She's an early bird, so we're planning to get in early, then leave for her naps (I highly, highly doubt she will fall asleep in her stroller because she nurses to sleep usually).

We just bought a Joovy stroller to take with us rather than our more expensive normal stroller. We took it for a test run this weekend, and she seems to like it.

Can't wait!

bug's life, definitely. Heimlich's Chew Chew Train could very well entertain her for hours! I just wish we'd taken DS to DCA b/c he would have loved that.

Small World...

Hanging out with her favorite people in the universe while they have fun! :)

DD was 10 months when we went in June.

She was really scared of all the characters. Minnie Mouse was the scariest for her, she screamed if she even saw her (ironically she is probably going to be minnie for halloween lol). She didn't even like the face characters. She was toterant of the Fairy Godmother as long as she stayed a good 3 feet away. We had to have the older two kids at the other side of the table so that they could get pictures with the characters.

She wasn't interested in shows or parades.

She loved Its A Small World, Buzz, Jungle Cruise and the POTC (except for the second drop) She was fine on all of the Fantasyland dark rides. TSMM made her nervous but she didn't cry.

Mostly she liked people watching. She loved the big ball with the water in TL by Space Mountain.
