Besides Disney...where do you vacation?

MI has WONDERFUL vacationing! We go to the Upper Peninsula ever other year. We've done the Soo Locks - absolutely fascinating. The Painted Rocks are gorgeous. We still have to do Taquemanon (sp?) Falls. Next time! We also always stop at the Grand Hotel for three nights on Mackinac Island. I just LOVE that place! Any of the dunes along Lake Michigan are fun! (Even in winter - the sledding is awesome!)

This summer we're going to Boston, Philadelphia, Gettysburg, and maybe DC.

We're going to drive out to Scottsdale (yes, DRIVE!!) next February. We like long car trips. The drive is part of our vacation. We always find the neatest places when we just wander!

We're going to Europe next September and ending two weeks there with a Transatlantic Cruise on the Magic!!

Good luck finding a spot that suits you!

I love cruises! I love that they are all in one and almost everything is included in your initial cost. There are also tons of things to do for the kids. We are taking our 3 yr old with us for the first time in September and one of the most important things for us was for him to have plenty to do. Royal Caribbean has a great kids club, so we are super excited about taking him.

We fell in love with Anna Maria Island a few years ago. (18 hour drive from Cleveland)

I went rafting in West Virginia, at the New River. It is called the Grand Canyon of the East and at times the rafting can be pretty exciting. They have a wide range of trips from half day to 2 day. Lodging can be anything from camping, to a cabin, to hotel. It is definitely something different and a lot of fun.

We enjoy a week at Cape Cod...rent a cottage and take life real slow.

Weekend trips to Rhode Island, Boston, New York City (last year was statue of liberty and ellis island).

We might also try our hand at camping (would be dd8's first time!) at a local State Park (with a beach)...not sure though as I tend to prefer a hotel room WITH a bathroom over a sleeping bag. :rotfl:

We also get the Season Pass for our local amusement park Lake Compounce. It has a water park too!:thumbsup2

I think the idea of the WI dells is a great one. I've been in that area and it is a lot of fun. Within 12 hrs of central OH you can be in Chicago, DC, the beach (VA, MD, NC or SC), or there are some wonderful state parks for camping ect... throughout the Midwest.

We've done a little of everything. This year we are cruising during spring break.
Have you ever considered Massanutten Resort in VA? We don't go there during spring break but in the fall when the leaves change. It's very peaceful and relaxing.

I like to go to Las Vegas and Cape Cod, and every year we rent a cottage in Wells, Maine. Very relaxing there, and great seafood!

I agree with Wells, ME. I grew up going there every year. Have taken the kids there a few times, we went last year and are going again this year. It is nice to just relax and not be going going going. Oh yeah and the seafood is great!

Once in awhile DH and I will do a cruise, but mostly just Disney

The place we go the most is Naples, FL about twice a year. We also go to Cedar Point, Chicago & Frasier CO/Winter Park.

We want to go out west & to Canada.

Kae

We usually do Disney in January and The Outer Banks, NC every summer. Disney is like a "go-go-go" vacation and The Outer Banks is just slower and more relaxing. I couldn't do without either one of them :cool1:

We go camping every yr at the same place and also take vac to new places each yr.Last yr we went to VA,Wash DC and New Jersey, This yr we are taking the kids to Mt Rushmore and to frankenmuth, MI. Next yr its Disney World and then for 2012 we are taking them to Wisconsin Dells by train. I grew up doing the same, camping every summer and going to different places getting to know our good ole America and I want to pass that on to my kids.

We try and do Disney plus a "new" place (to at least one of us) every year. This year we're going to Deadwood, SD in May since DH and I both love the show/history of the area, then we'll also see Mount Rushmore. There aren't any other places we go to on a regular basis, though, except maybe for some local areas and Victoria, BC every few years.

We are going on an Alaskan cruise this August, visiting Victoria for a full day and 3 days in Seattle. I would love some ideas, thanks!

i love the idea of going to the same place(s) every year, it seems like a great way to create some lovely memories. is that generally what American families do?

here in Australia, some people do that, but a lot of people just go somewhere new each time. i grew up going to different places a lot.

as an adult, i have been spending all my holiday money on overseas travel! but one day i would love to settle into the rhythm of going to a certain place year after year.

We do local camping trip. I live in a Beach town so I don't have to vacation there. Last year we rented a cabin in Gatlinburg. I could not believe how reasonable it was and how beautiful. We usualy go to Disney once or twice a year.

We went a couple of years ago to a resort in Pine Mtn. Georgia called Callaway Gardens - I went there as a child on vacations. My kids LOVED it. The kids are in a program from 9-3 so we could play golf, tennis and whatever programs they were offering for adults.

The Florida State Circus sets up a tent there for the summer and they perform a circus everyday - they are the camp counselors and the adults and kids get to try out circus acts!

We go to Myrtle Beach a couple of times a year (we live pretty close), we are also going to Charleston this week-end!:cheer2: We also love cruising!:cloud9:

We go on cruises to the caribbean and to cedar point.
