Besides Disney...where do you vacation?

We got o a resort in Lake George, NY for a week every summer.

We also do the rv thing and love it, we have been from Maine to Fl and as far west as Indy with it. we like to hit Cedar Point every couple of years as we wait till some new attractions come in. We are also DVC owners but will still go and stay @ FW also it is hard to forget your 1st stay @ Disney

here in Australia, some people do that, but a lot of people just go somewhere new each time. i grew up going to different places a lot.

It's the same here. Some always vacation to the same place, others try something new. When I was a kid we never took vacations, at all.

There are other places to visit and spend money, but no other place to VACATION! Each time we head somewhere else we always say, "I would have rather gone to Disney!"

Really? As much as I love disney we have started to take other trips and I gotta tell you, there is a great wide world out there just as spectacular.

We did Yosemite national park and it was awe inspiring. Now we are trying to get to all the national parks.

This year Dh& I are heading to Paris. :lovestruc absolutely can't wait. Family trip will probably be Cananda, which I heard is also spectacular.

Since we've been going to Disney during Winter Break (usually the week after Valentine's Day), we don't go anywhere for Spring Break (mid-April). During the summer, we take a few weekend trips. Places we've gone in the past include:

Cape Cod (Falmouth Heights area)
Martha's Vineyard (This is usually a day trip)
Lancaster County, PA
Wildwood, NJ (Jersey Shore)
Vermont

We're hoping to visit Niagara Falls this summer.

We are going on an Alaskan cruise this August, visiting Victoria for a full day and 3 days in Seattle. I would love some ideas, thanks!

We're doing the exact same thing!! (yet in July, :))

Spending 3 days in Seattle first, then going on the Alaskan cruise (last stop is in Victoria).

If you hear of any "must-see's" in either place, let me know please.. I have never been farther west than ohio, lol!

As much as possible, we never go to the same place twice. There is a huge, fascinating world out there and I want to see, and bring my kids to see, if not all of it, as much as possible. So far, our best trips with our kids (who are still young...just 6,6 and 7) have been

- Mexico (Caribbean coast)
- Cayman Islands
- Sedona
- Scottsdale
- Naples
- Washington DC
- Boundary Waters Canoe Area

This year, we are taking them to China for Spring Break and to Yellowstone and Cody (goal is to hit a different National Park each summer) for our summer trip. Think our fall trip will be to San Diego. Already thinking of next year. Probably do a quick winter trip somewhere warm and south...DR or Mexico. Spring Break looks like Hawaii and then for the Summer Trip I am thinking Acadia National Park and the Maine Coast. Fall trip is looking like South Dakota but it is so far away, who knows.

Do your Alaskan Cruises include Glacier Bay?

Also take a whale watching excursion if you can, and if you don't have a digital SLR camera, take a traditional film camera- by the time a whale's tail comes up in the air and goes back down, a regular digital camera is far too slow.

we've only been together for a couple years but we did London last year and are going to Italy this fall, along with a week in Disney. We also spend a week or two in Chautauqua, NY in the summer--this year we'll be making a day trip to Niagra Falls. DH also has a tiny island in Maine for camping.

We also like to take long weekends in Newport, RI and an annual schooner cruise in Maine.

The only place other then disney that we go to every year is East Harbor State Park (up by Port Clinton and Marble Head Ohio). We have a pop-up camper and spend lots of time up there as it is only 3 hours away from us. It is not very "touristy" and we love it. Our dream is to buy a vacation home there in about 10 years.

We also just started curising so I have a feeling we will be doing one of those a year as well. We went on our first one (DH and I for our anniversary) in 2009 and now we are planning our first family one for Dec. of this year.

We get two weeks of vacation and what we do depends.

Every couple of years we rent a cottage in Eastham, MA near the cape cod national seashore. That's what we're doing this year. The cottage we're renting is right on the water and is 100 years old. I'm very excited.

We also camp at least one long weekend a year. Usually someplace fairly close but we have traveled to CA and back with our tents. DH is taking the kids camping 4th of july week this year (I get two weeks of vaca he gets three )

Other places we go with some regularity include DE and IN/OH to visit DH's relatives. Since it has been about 4 years this year we in addition to our trip to the cape we are traveling to IN to visit his relatives. We are making it a week of day trips. We will be stopping at various "day trip" places along our route - Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, etc. BTW - if anyone has any suggestion any "must see" places between MA and IN please let me know we're still looking for suggestions for our trip back - we're going via Pittsburgh.

We also go to Universal, Eureka Springs in Arkansas and San Antonio regularly. Plus we try to see new places when we can too.

We try to take a cruise a year to various Carib ports for my hubbie and myself, tho the kids have come sometimes. Either that or at family vaca is to the obx, nc. It is definitely way built up compared to 17 years ago when we first started going but it is still very laid back compared to most beach towns. We also normally go camping a week at the local state park which the kids love almost as much as the obx. ;)

We have been to Europe, the Caribbean, skiing (for the kids-I hate it), and this year I am trying to put together a trip either to Hawaii (never been) or to Europe, whichever is cheapest. Disney is great and easy and convenient, but there are many many more places to go.

I am a planner and have been reading all I can on cruisecritic.com. As far as Seattle, my DH's brother lives there and is in charge of planning that weekend.
What ship are you going on? We are on the RCCL Rhapsody, the kids are really excited, it is their first cruise.

We do not get to go into Glacier Bay, just the Tracy Arm Fjord, Skagway and Juneau. I am looking to either visit a glacier or whale watch while in Juneau. Any suggestions?

hawaii is on my list for next year...i have to see it before dec 2012, right? :wizard:

We have a Pop up camper we use once or twice a year for 5-6 days each time up North at one private campground or another. Not really roughing it, but it's hella cheaper than a cross country trip to WDW.

We have a popup too! Have you camped at Fort Wilderness? If not, it's definately something to consider - awesome! Check over on the Camping at Disney board - it's a great group.

We generally camp for 3 weeks a year a plus several weekends. Outerbanks, Williamsburg, Knoebels, various state parks. We go to disney every other year. This year is our no disney year and we're going to Gettysburg, Pigeon Forge and Natural Bridge. I like the kids to know there's other things besides disney:scared1: and show them historical sites as well.

We got o a resort in Lake George, NY for a week every summer.

Lake George was a regular part of my summer's as a child. My grandparents lived in the Albany area and had a boat. We would camp and go boating. I took my husband and son for a week a few years ago. One of these years we are going to stay at the Sagamore. In answer to the initial question, I think Disney has become our go back to place (not every year) and then we really like to try something new each year.
