We get three days off with pay for immediate family (spouse, children, parents, siblings, and corresponding in-laws).Just curious what your companies policy is on bereavement leave. I guess not so much their "policy" but how long do you get off of work for the death of:
parent-
spouse-
child-
grandparent-
etc-

Anyhow, I told her that it seemed ridiculous to only get 3 days off when losing an immediate family member and she said that it's pretty much standard everywhere. So I'm just on here asking to see if it is standard. To me, it just doesn't seem like enough time to get everything done. I know with my father it was a cremation and a memorial get together. He didn't want the wake, the cemetery, the church, etc. He just wanted to be cremated and have a memorial. But even with that and getting things done at the house, with my mom, going to the lawyer's, etc it just seemed like we needed more time. Then, after getting everything said & done, you need time to actually grieve, ya know?Just curious what your company's policy is on bereavement leave. SWEET LORD Sam. Your spouse dies abd you only get 3 days. I swear I can never leave my company.
My dh died in 2012 and I got 30 days pay leave and stayed out 5 months without worry.
See? This is what I'm talking about. People need more than 3 damn days to grieve a loved one (especially immediate family). I think 3 days is ridiculous. Like I mentioned in my post above, when my dad died in 2012, I got 5 days and it still wasn't enough time to get everything done that we needed to. And when I went to work the following week, it's like I didn't even get a day to even grieve.

In my professional life, I've always been one of 1-4 people who do what I do - even when I worked for the big machine (2,500+ employees). It's tough to cover people in a small department![]()
Was this part of your vacation/sick package or was it a separate bereavement allowance?SWEET LORD Sam. Your spouse dies abd you only get 3 days. I swear I can never leave my company.

Parent Spouse or Children - 3 Days
Grandparent - 1 day

Three days here as well for parent, child, grandparent. It has to be an "up or down" relative (meaning that siblings, cousins, etc. don't qualify). But if I lost a child, I think I'd be missing a heck of a lot more than three days. I can't even imagine. Spouse, also. And yes, you can use vacation days where I work, but you can't take more than 5 consecutive days off without a medical reason.
