I posted about buying DVC ( or timeshares in general) on the Budget Board. Probably not the best place to post it. :rolleyes1 A kind poster recommended I come over here and post about it instead...so here I am! :goodvibes

We LOVE Disney and have found over the last 5 years we don't want to vacation much of anywhere else. It's just the perfect place for us..with or without kids. :cloud9:

I've looked into buying DVC because we love the deluxe resorts...but with a family of 6 the deluxe price tag kills us! :scared1:

And the pricing I've seen so far...I'm just not sure how I'm going to come out ahead by buying vs. just renting the points.

Can anyone fill me in? Also...are there any good reputable resale sites? We would be paying cash so loans, etc. aren't neccessary.

TIA for all your help! Just trying to make a very informed decision here. :goodvibes

We're a family of 6 so I can resonate! We made the decision to buy as we figured it was definitely worth it if we were at least going to disney every 1 to 1.5 years. We started with BLT and then added on Saratoga Springs when prices went down this past year (got a great deal).

I agree I would only do it if you can pay cash (personal preference). As far as resale sites - Jaki at DVC Resales (I believe that's the name) is great and I've heard good things of Timeshare Store.

Best of luck in your decision making.

DVC also made more sense for our family. We live on the West Coast so our homes are over here (VGC and Aulani) but are excited to go back to WDW this summer. I only wish we bought sooner. We have been going to WDW about yearly for the past 4-5 years and it usually involved a stay at a deluxe.
Both of our purchases have been direct since at the time of our VGC purchase there wasnt any-many resales available. Also we are financing though Disney and they make it soooo easy. Added on the Aulani through them also since there are no resales of Aulani yet.
Good for you doing your research. Go to a couple different resales and see whats out there. Have you decided on a resort yet? Have fun!!

If you're steadfast in your plans to visit each year, I think you'll find it cheaper in the long run to purchase into DVC.

These online thoughts helped me with my decision making.
How do I know if DVC is right for me?
This is another very personal question that each prospective DVC owner will need to answer for themselves. Some things to consider:

Do you currently visit WDW at least every other year and enjoy staying in Moderate or Deluxe accommodations?
Do you want to pre-pay for your WDW vacations, locking in today’s prices?
Do you intend to stay at a DVC resort much of the time? The best value in using your DVC points is in staying at the DVC resorts.
Will you be happy at a DVC resort, instead of your current favorite Moderate or Deluxe? If you LOVE the Poly, will you be happy staying at one of the DVC resorts instead?
Do you want to vacation yearly in larger units (such as one, two, even three bedrooms) with extra amenities such at a full kitchen, washer/dryer, Jacuzzi tub, etc? Owning DVC is the easiest and (over time) most affordable way to attain and enjoy these special units.

These post hit the nail on the head. Do It! You'll love yourself forever!

It is one of the best decision we have ever made. We bought 10 years ago and love it. This will be the first year we are not doing a Disney Vacation so I will be banking my points.

Financially, it is the best purchase I've ever made...assuming you love Disney and plan to visit on a regular basis. I've been a member for over 17 years

We are a fam of 6 too. If you we tried to squeeze into an All Star Music suite every time we could do Disney cheaper on a trip by trip basis, but when you add in the much nicer/larger room, the full kitchen (my daughter and I have specific food issues) the flexibility of staying at other resorts, the extra room in 2BR for grandparents, kid's friends, etc. it just felt like the right thing to do to go DVC.

As far as renting points, the more I think about renting points to upsize our fall 2012 stay to a Grand Villa the more I think about using that money toward adding points permanently via resale.

Whether you buy in via resale or DVC is up to your financial situation/comfort level. We wanted to start with a DVC direct purchase and feel like we got a good deal in the current market. I don't think there's a right or wrong here, just what works for you.

We are also a family of 6...though when we bought in we were a family of 4. That being said, we are over joyed that we purchased when we did. Now we have the ability to stay in a 2 bedroom villa with in walking distance to 2 parks. Good luck on your quest for DVC.....it has been a great for us and I hope for you as well.

The biggest selling point for us was the kitchen. We go to WDW often enough to make it worthwhile and usually as a large group (8 or more). Breakfast savings for 10 people alone is almost as much as our yearly dues! And with boys who will just get bigger and cost more to feed, it's definately going to pay for itself. :lmao:

Hi there, yet another six pack family here. Why buy when you can rent? well 10 bucks a point to rent 100-120 bucks a point (direct) to purchase...10-12 rentals and your even!

Not having to rely on others to ensure you get your annual/semi annual dose of magic, I have rented prior to purchasing and had ZERO problems but you never know.

Rental prices most likely will rise (eventually)

I like the fact that not only do I get great vacations with my kids now, they will be able to get great vacations with their kids.

We love it, not to sound cliche but my biggest regret is not buying sooner!

Good luck with you decision

Alex
