BENEFITS of Having 2 UY's?

1. Extra waitlists.
2. Extra transfers.
3. Can be deeded differently.
4. Potentially a full year’s coverage of vacations without risk of missing a banking window.
5. You can unshackle yourself from hunting for months for their PERFECT xUY contract to add on.
6. You can hide your sickness of constantly needing to “add-on” from your wife who’s on your other membership and would legally need to be party to this additional, and probably unnecessary, contract or else you’ll be engaging in fraud.

Ummm... that’s all that immediately comes to mind. Haven’t really thought about it... much.

Bahahahaha!!!! This is awesome!

If you go to WDW in the spring and fall you use one set of points in the spring and one in the fall. For the spring trip you would like a early use year Jan, Feb. etc. that way if you had to cancel the rip you could bank those points. For the fall trip you would like a later use year June, Sept etc it all depends on how much and how often you go. You need to bank point at 8 moths out I believe. Some will correct me if I’m wrong.

We own a larger Dec contract and smaller Sept UY contract, and we use the SEP every other year for a week at a F&W in either September or October which prompted the choice of that UY.
The larger contract we use on a flexible schedule , so December works as we likely will use those for a week in March-May and a few long weekends throughout the year. It all depends on when you want to/are able to travel.

For us literally any time. We live 3 1/2 hours away and are not necessarily tied to school vacations.

We have a little longer drive, it takes 7.5 to 8 hours, but like you are not tied to a particular time frame, so the UY may not be as important depending on how you will use it. We only cared about the UY of the contract that we know we will use for F & W. Our children are adults and our grand-kids are still young enough that school isn't an issue. That allowed shopping by best deal available vs. needing a specific UY.
We tend to enjoy being flexible with the rest of the trips and sometimes base the travel time around various family members schedules. Trying to find the perfect UY for that would have given me (even more) gray hair! So we bought the best deal and it has worked out well for us.

We go twice a year and have a contract at 2 different resorts. It has worked well for us. We have not intention of trying to combine contracts or UYs. our kids are out of school, so that is not an issue. we use one for Food and Wine, and the other for the flower and Garden Festival.

We have two different UY, Sept (our larger contract) and Dec (a smaller 50 point that matches one of our other resorts). I often transfer the smaller to the bigger. That's the only way to combine the points between two different UYs. I've always been told when I did my transfer that I used my once a year transfer in or out for each contract when I transfer from one to the other. You cannot borrow transferred points, so this year I'll be transferring from the larger to the smaller so I can borrow the Dec points for an October trip next year.

We're now three hours away instead of 15 like we used to be, so we have shorter trips versus longer ones now.

I have 3 UY's. The nice part is that I can pick and choose which contract to use depending on the time of year I am booking so that I am always booking near the beginning of my UY. For example, I own a June and Aug UY which work really well for my summer and fall trips. I own a Dec UY, which works well for my winter/spring trips! I like knowing I have all times of year covered now that my times to visit have changed since I am going more often and at different times than when I first bought!

That was our plan when we bought, but because of previously planned trips, and where we want to stay, the timing of when we closed, and how points ended up allocated in our contracts, we are using our Feb UY to stay in Nov 2018, and our August UY to stay in late April 2019. Hopefully by 2020 we will be on track.... o_O

Our original plan (to the extent there really was a plan at all), we Feb UY was for President's week or spring break, and possibly the summer. Aug UY was for August (we had tended to go to WDW in late Aug in the past) and winter holidays. We got sort of off cycle.

To expand slightly you get to target certain trips to different contracts. It opens you up to other contracts esp at difficult to get resorts (#5 above). But as a rule it's not worth it for most, esp not to those new to DVC. Best is to be educated up front, make good choices (use year, home resort, # of points) and buy a sufficient points cushion so that one doesn't have the added expense to need to do this.
