If I buy points at a 2nd DVC resort does that allow me to use the 11 month window at both resorts? If so, what is the minimum I have to purchase? We just bought 170 points at Wilderness Lodge Villas yesterday and am new to all this.

I'm considering an add-on and this is what I found out...

1. The min purchase for an addon is 25 pts if paying cash, 50pts for financing, and 100 pts for magical beginnings.

2. You do get the 11 month window for both your home resorts, but only with the points at each resort... (ie.. you own 170 at VWL and add on 50 pts at BCV, you only get the 11 months with the 170 at VWL and the 50 at BCV, at the 7 month window you then can combine the total of 220 to use at any DVC resort)

I hope that helped!

If you own 170 VWL and add-on 50 at another resort, you have the 11 month window at VWL for the 170 only and at the other resort for the 50 only. You don't get to mix the two together to claim 11 month ressie rights at both for the full 220. Minimum add-on is 25 points if paying cash, 50 if using financing, and 100 (at WDW resorts) for use of Magical Beginnings (where you sell back first year points to Disney to satisfy part of down payment --at VB and HH you can use Magical Beginnings at the 50 point add-on level.

congratulations and welcome home!

Purchasing an add on at a second resort gives you the 11 month advantage for the number of points you purchase at that resort only. If you are interested in staying at another DVC resort from time to time (within Disney or HH, VB) it is great to have points at that resort to take advantage of the 11 month booking window. You can make reservations at other than your home resort at the 7 month mark..but having that 11 month advantage ensures you have the ability to book the type of room you want any time of the year!

The 11 month window is particularly important for WLV,BWV and the soon to come BCVs. These DVC resorts are smaller and tend to sell out quicker than say Old Key West for example. And their close proximity to the parks makes them very popular for guests who coveat the prime location. As such, members with the home-resort 11 month booking window have first pick of the room inventory. After 9 months any DVC member can book a room at any of the DVC resorts, provided there is availability. If you have home-field advantage you'll be more likely to get the room that you want by booking between the 9 and 11 month window. So to answer your question, the real advantage of owning at a second resort is that you get first dibs on the rooms. We own 170 points at the BWVs. This past trip I was able to borrow points from next year to stay 15 days in a 1 BR apartment. The downside is that we won't have any points left to use next year. And after staying in the 1BR, I'm not sure I'm willing to stay in a studio again. The 1BR was truly a home away from home. We just about cooked in the room every night. And the jacuzzi, as well as the added space, was wonderful. I have a fix however, that will solve our problem and thus allow us to continue traveling to WDW for 2 weeks every year in a 1BR. We plan on buying 170 points at the BCVs as soon as sales open up. We love the convenience of the Epcot resort area, and BCVs will satisfy that preference. We'll stay at BCVs for two weeks one year(buy borrowing points from the following year)and then alternate with BWVs the following year using the same method. We love the Beach and Yacht Club resorts, especially the pool(we spent some time almost every day at Stormalong Bay during our last visit), so for us it's a win-win situation. And with BWVs sold out, this is the only viable option for us, short of buying on the secondary market. The 11 month window at both resorts will give us the best possible chance of getting the standard view room(which are the first to sell out)that allows us to stay for 2 weeks with two years worth of points(in this case @ 340 pts).
