Benefits not the same if purchase a resale...is this true?

I asked several times during the conversation to make sure I was hearing this correctly and in no uncertain terms did he say that a non-Disney resale is restricted to the 10 core resorts...points cannot be used for cruises, etc. I repeated this and he said yes. He said this was made official this past Friday...Disney made this rule.

Be sure to post his name if (I'm tempted to just say "when") we find out it's not true.

Then again, I've been surprised before. But this still seems very very unlikely to me. Hopefully the TSS guys will weigh in.

The DIS doesn't allow that. Do not post his/her name here.

Oops. Well, that's twice in two days I've been wrong about DIS rules.

Then instead of posting his name, mutter his name under your breath for being a no good dirty scoundrel.

I just spoke with DVC directly to inquire about purchasing a DVC membership. I asked about resales and he said that if you purchase a resale(not through Disney), you are not entitled to use points toward a Disney Cruise or Adventures by Disney. He said that you can only use the Vacation Points toward a stay at any of the 10 core resorts. Something was supposedly signed by Disney this past Friday stating this? Is this true?
The guide is LYING.

Once you are a member, your points are exactly the same as any other member.

Buy resale, and if you ever have the need to consult with anyone from DVC sales ask to speak to a manager, explain the lying issue, and insist on being given a new guide.

An elderly friend of mine was suckered into adding points retail to his Wyndham timeshare. When I asked him why he paid $15,000 for what I told him many times he could buy resale for $100, he said the Wyndham sales weasel told him that points purchased on Ebay will no longer be accepted for booking reservations! I suspect that the sales weasel was actually referring to rented points, which are no longer possible on Wyndham. But it scared my friend.
My point is, maybe the guide used to work for Wyndham.:rolleyes1

I can not imagine DVC wants to be embroiled in the same legal battles that the other timeshares are over creating 2 classes of members "after the fact" from the same point pool.

Some timeshare systems - Wyndham among them - DO make a distinction between points purchased from the developer and points purchased resale.

With Wyndham, it is a combination of a direct purchase AND a high level of points purchased that gives you some benefits. Most Wyndham owners (on TUG, at least) don't think the benefits are worth the price.

But I don't care who a sales weasel has worked for in the past, if they work for DVC they know darn well there is no difference between direct and resale.

I would like to make a distinction in what you said, which is fundamentally true. Wyndham does give some (dubious) benefits if you buy enough points directly through them. However, when booking, there is no difference. Interestingly, when I went on my first vacation and my first "Owner's Update" (actually a session where they try to get you to add points), the saleslady looked at my file and said, "Oh, I see you only have 49,000 points and paid $9,000 for them."
Actually, I had bought them for $100 on Ebay. Apparently my file contained only the original sales price. She was taken aback when I told her $100. So my conclusion was that my resale purchase isn't even noted in their file.

Naw! You didn't really go for the Owner's Update, did you????? You must be a masochist!

The only Tuggers who go to Owners Updates are those who want to torment the weasels!

OR...she was making it up as she went along.

You're probably right. Unless you had VIP status for paying 10X what you should have paid, there would be no reason for anything in your file.

I really hope a TSS rep chimes in here because this concerns me especially since I am waiting on a ROFR.

I guess my question is how are they going to distiguish direct points from resale points going forward? That would be a waste of time.

Disney knows exactly how many points each member has bought direct verses resale. Our previous Guide would contact me each time we closed a resale contract and they would have all of the info about each contract, price, terms, everything.

Even though this seems far fetched, there is nothing to keep this from happening and nothing that Disney does would surprise me.

:earsboy: Bill

Nothing would surprise me either, I have even heard talk during our stay two weeks ago of charging to pay to park at the resort. Since they do this at CA, I really expect this to be the next surprise.

double post--sorry!

Hye we are in the same club, almost on a first mane base with someone. I think he is watching everyone of my post now and talking to me afterwards. See if this gets a response!!!!!:rotfl:

You mean that big stamp in a VIPer's file that says "SUCKER!"?
I went to the owners update because it was my first time at a Wyndham resort on points, and was curious. Also, the cash incentive didn't hurt. OK, I admit getting money out of Wyndham was the MAIN incentive.
