Benefit of Free Dining for Annual Passholders?

I am considering booking for Sept. to get the free dining, but Im an AP holder so I would have to buy a one day ticket that I don't need to use. What can I do with this ticket? Can someone else in my party use it instead of me to add on a day to their ticket? What other options would I have with this ticket?

Also, I was considering going in October instead, with hopes that I would get an AP discount for that time. Which is generally a better deal?

October with AP discount or Sept Free Dining but having to buy a park ticket that I don't need?

We had the same problem with our decision. But, we looked at is as paying $100-$120 for 8 TS, 8 CS and 8 snacks in September ($55 for the one-day pass and $45-65 for potential missed discounts). We tend to plan our trips around the meals anyway, so we will definitely get our money's worth out of the deal.

If you are a grab-and-go-food kind of person, then it may be worth your while to wait for AP discounts...

I used my one day ticket towards my AP renewal. I was credited about $72. Technically, the pass is not transferrable. You will be given the one day ticket on your room key with your name on it. I don't think you can upgrade an existing pass under a separate name. The names will have to match. I still had a one day pass on our room key card for my niece(20) that joined us last January. During our trip last month, I upgraded the ticket to a 5 day park hopper for my other niece(10) who will be joining us in August. At the time, I didn't realize the tickets are upgraded to the existing room key card and are non-transferrable. So my niece's(10) ticket for this summer is under the name of my other niece(20). I'm sure I could get away with her using the ticket but I don't feel right about asking her to lie about her name. Since we have a 2 bedroom at BCV, I have also invited my niece(20) with the name on the room key card. We will just have to buy another park hopper for my other niece(10). I hope this made sense and helped!

 Did you upgrade the same trip or a later trip?

I thought the one day could be saved and used at any time, but the key card does end with check-out so wonder if the tkt will expire at check out as well?

Hmmm......:)

I did free dining last year & we were AP holders. After I checked in I went over to the concierge desk & asked them to remove the one day tickets from our room keys. I was afraid one of my kids would use it by accident. They did this for me no problem. This past Feb I traveled with my daughter & her friend & used 2 of the one day tickets. I upgraded them when I checked in to 6 day tickets & just paid the difference. They will remove the tickets from your room key but not all CM know how to do this. Keep trying until they do it. The one day tickets are good forever.

We upgraded at a later trip but I have read that people do it on the same trip. They can do it at the resort. Just ask.

asked them to remove the one day tickets from our room keys.

What did they give you when they removed tickets from the room key? Was your name on it and if so how were you able to use it for someone else? Thanks so much.

They put each one on the same card they use for room keys. It doesn't have any name just says ADULT. It also in the lower left corner has 1D 1P TC AD.
I assume that stands for 1 day/1 park ticket for adult.

I've read elsewhere that one can take the room keys to a ticket counter and use the dollar amount towards other types of admission (say, buying DisneyQuest or water park tickets). Is this true? If so, any advice on how to do so?

I don't know if you can switch it for Disneyquest or waterpark. It is a one day MYW ticket. It can be upgraded to include the waterparks and more add on.
