Benefit of add-ons/small buys?

Oh no not at all, I totally understand all that. I just meant tomorrow is March and that's my use year, so that is when my points actually become available for use. I've already got 250 of those points tied up in a reservation for May and was planning to most likely bank the remaining 150 into 2023. But I'd also maybe like to book a weekend trip in the fall... and we do like to do smaller trips here and there, so I feel like I'd ultimately like to have a few more points to play with.

So if I were to purchase 50 points direct TODAY, not only would I get an additional 50 points per year that align with my current March use year, but since today is still February I'd get the 2021 points and those could be banked into 2022. I already talked to a DVC rep and confirmed that all can be done, just need to decide if I want to do that NOW or wait a year or 2...
I retract my previous statement. You get it.

There are a shocking number of members who think you can't start booking with your points until you enter the relevant UY, and I thought you were one of those.

You don't "get anything" at the start of your Use Year. Your March 2022 points have been available to you for the past 11 months. Half of them have been available to you for 23 months.
I understand how all this works, sorry if my choice of wording made it seem otherwise.

I appreciate you looking out for me! :) Because if I did have it wrong I'd definitely want someone to tell me lol. Just trying to decide whether to scratch my addonitis itch so soon or not.... I mean I always knew that I'd probably ultimately want more points but I figured it would at least be a year or 2... and then I realized March 1 is tomorrow and I could get a few extra points to play with if I add on today, which I wish I would have thought of a few days ago, lol

Definitely call now, get them, so you have time to get them in the account and call MS to bank.

If you have a Disney Visa, you can get 6 months for 0% interest. Plus, you do have time to back out if you need a few days to think!

Good luck!
I do have the disney visa so that's a good point to think about too...

I would call and do it - then you have 10 days to decide - if you don't do it, you'd have to wait until Jan 2023 (to get the 2x points)

As to the original question, my fiancé and I are looking to buy into DVC soon, and we’re actually very interested in a smaller resale contract. We live less than four hours away from WDW, so we do weekend Disney trips several times a year and then our “big” trip where we stay for a week plus every Christmas. Obviously 50-75 points won’t cover the Christmas trip, but they’re perfect for a couple little overnights a year. So we want different types of contracts for the different types of trips we’re taking, and we like the idea of having different home resorts. Because we’re just in research mode and keeping an eye on the market for now, we haven’t decided yet whether we’re going to wait until we’ve saved up for a “big” direct contract first or jump on a small resale one that we like as soon as we see it. As new members, we wouldn’t be eligible to do the smaller contract from Disney first, and we quite like the idea of using the smaller one to stay for a night here and there at different resorts to decide on the one we’ll get for our bigger trip. We have pretty different hotels on our favorites list, so it’ll also help us come to an agreement if we’ve actually stayed where we end up buying the big direct contract to make sure it’s what we really want. Of course, we can do the same by renting points, but at some point we want to have that money actually going toward a purchase, and, like I said, that small contract will still suit our needs for our smaller trips even once we get a bigger one. Plus the one resort we both agree we don’t like is Riviera, so we’re not worried about the restriction on resale points there lol.

In our case we bought it at 170 and points have gone up a lot since then. So we're considering just upping to 200 by buying 30 points and seeing how long that lasts us.

As much as I'd love to outright just buy another 200 points...two kids, college eventually, a mortgage, housework...not going to happen!
