Mattison's Forty-One Monthly Premium Wine-Pairing Dinner

Friday, September 25 from 6:30pm

Five-course dinner menu:
Yellow Fin Tuna Tartare cucumber, shiso leaf, citrus ponzu, sesame crisp served with a 2007 Morgan Metallico Chardonnay, Monterey, California

Butter Poached Halibut sake braised bok choy, oyster mushrooms, vanilla-coconut beurre blanc, spiced pineapple syrup served with a 2006 ZD Chardonnay, California

Seared Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast sweet potato and scallion risotto, drunken cherries, five spice cream served with a 2005 Rutz Cellars Maison Grand Cru Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley, California

Wild Mushroom Crusted Beef Tenderloin basil mashed potato, haricot verts, almonds, truffle-cognac demi served with a 2005 Caravan Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa, California

Vermont Maple Semi Freddo hazelnut tuile and Frangelico syrup served with a Taylor Fladgate 10yr Tawny Port

I've never had any of those labels except the Taylor Fladgate so it should make for an interesting dinner.

I have a DIS friend who says the ZD Chard is the best she has ever tasted. They visited the winery last month and didn't want to leave. This whole meal sounds scrumptious and I wish I could go with you!

Holy crap! for that price I'll just walk around the parks and look at the lights and make up stories about how they got up there.

Friday Wine Evenus Zinfandel Port 2006 (Paso Robles, CA)

tastes like kicked-up Welch's (isn't that what most wine is, sort of) with a hint of blackberry. At least it's not a flower kissed by the bubbles of a fine prosecco. I read that somewhere.

I love Food Network Humor. They hate Tyler Florence. They call him TyFlo. When I'm at his wine pairing I'm going to be thinking "TyFlo" and laughing.

redzinner ... that menu sounds really tasty; I hope you enjoy your evening. :goodvibes

as for my doctor's appointment today it pretty well went as suspected. he doesn't want to wait until we get back from FL to schedule a colonoscopy so now I get to work one in at the beginning of October. he also wants to change my meds but wants to wait until he knows if this is a normal flare up or something else. he was concerend about all the other stuff that's cropped up in the last twelve months and wants to run a big 'ol blood panel --- I could tell him without a test that my white count is high but I guess they like to have laboratory confirmation. :lmao:

Anyhoo ... I told him I refuse to start anything new until November regardless of what he may find (unless it's an infection) - I'm not going to WDW while starting an unfamiliar cocktail of pills.

So that's the scoop ... nothing new really. And other than those times in the last three weeks when it's popped up I haven't felt terrible ... mostly tired ... so it's not really anything to complain about. Par for the course, really. And I just stuffed my face with pizza ... if the goblin is sleeping then all is well and if not, well, we shall ever after refer to pizza as super colon blow. :rotfl2:

Brenda, I hope your 'dance' with the doctor went okay this morning and he was able to calm things down. Did he help with the quick step or the shuffle?

We'll be up for bluezoo and then the next weekend after so no opening weekend for us this year. We will however still be doing the Foodie Thing at a Wine Dinner here on our stretch of the beach. I really hope to 'remember' to take pictures!!!! because Marcel won't be there to take them for me.

Ah!! So this is why you will be missing the opening weekend with us!! I just knew it was something that had to do with "wine'! ;)

Anywho, the menu sounds wonderful, hope you guys have a fabulous time. I will make sure Marcel takes lots of photos.

Just hope this heat breaks a little, but I doubt it. Hopefully by the time we go in October it will be much cooler. We just have to get those cold fronts to pass all the way through and not stall on top of us. :headache:

Brenda,

Glad the doctor's visit went as you expected. Just make sure you do whatever it takes to get well!!

Brenda! I am so sorry to hear about all .. I hope it all comes back with some kind of good news for you.
Your pizza super colon blow reminds me of a old SNL skit with a cereal called Super Colon Blow! I hope that doesn't happen! :headache:

It just reminds me of the intestinal flume ride at the Adventurers Club which depresses me.

Brenda - I wish the doctor had some magical treatment for you and your angry colon. I hope it leaves you some peace for the forseeable future.

Thanks everyone ... :hug::hug::hug:

It will be okaley-dokaley, as Ned Flanders likes to say. It's par for the course with a perpetually angry intestinal tract and like I've said before ... most of the time it behaves. Some people have such a hard time with Crohns that I feel bad for even complaining about it.

I'd love to know some day what started this whole process in the first place ... when did my immune system decide to wage perpetual war on my innards? :lmao:

Enough about that. Next week the festival starts!!! :yay::yay::banana:

Wine of the Night here in Olde Virginny...

2008 Meinklang Burgenland White - Austria ... Austrian grape-varieties: 80% Gruner Veltliner, and 20% Muscat

Frizzante style, nice and crisp. Fruity. Nice sipping on the patio wine!

Hoping this all works out soon for you, good thoughts coming your way!:thumbsup2

Brenda, I read your blog late last night. Well it was probably just very, very early in the morning, actually.

Very nice! I liked your wine pairing meal very much! I have tried wine that smelled like cat pee before, by the way. I think maybe if you tried it with what you were eating, it might have surprised you in a good way.

And I hope your Old Crohn goes into hibernation!

Hey lady! How ya doing?

That pairing was a steal for the price, wasn't it? We're looking forward to trying another ... hopefully they will extend this program through the winter.

As for that wine ... I will admit that it tasted good with the food but I just couldn't get past the aroma. Something must be wonky in my sniffer. :lmao:

Can't wait to see you and everyone else in less than four weeks!!!! :cool1:
