Bendy-Friendies V.4 ... Drinks-A-Plenty with a Side Order of Tasty Food!!!

“May those who love us, love us; and those who don't love us, may God turn their hearts; and if He doesn't turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles so we'll know them by their limping.”

Serves 'em right!!! :rotfl:

Love the hidden Mickey wine bottle too, and if the stuff in it is good, so much the better!

Abby - such a cute house! Me and that tree in the driveway wouldn't get along though! :lmao: I just love all the trees around the house though, and if you won't have to mow so often, that is a blessing. Hostas! (depending on other growing conditions where you live), so much variety there, and some have beautiful flowers. Or pots of impatients here and there, they'll love you for providing shade. My impatients froze and are sitting in little limp bunches in pots on the balcony, just need to carry the pots to the shed before we get any more snow... bleeee.

Abby, what a cute house!!

Bendy, that is my favorite Irish prayer....I've always found it to be such a lovely sentiment.

The morning show that I listen to tried those Four Lokos while on the air.....one of the girls downed one in about 15 minutes and you could tell she was already seriously buzzed after just the 1....she was slurring her words and everything. Not my cup of tea....but I can see how college kids would find them appealing....they certainly seem to be a cheap way to get drunk quick.

Also, I was thinking....have we discussed doing holiday cards amongst the friendies again this year? Everyone seemed to really enjoy that last year.

I think I'm actually younger than you ;) I graduated from college early along with getting married shortly after so sometimes I sound older than I am. I tried it because I'm slightly insane. When we do go out to the bars with my husband's coworkers, I have been known to mix uppers and downers between Red Bull & Vodkas or even to a lesser extent Jack & Cokes so it wasn't too far of a stretch to want to try something new.

I understanding wanting to not live in the college areas! Back when we lived in New England we were in walking distance to my college but so not a good area of town to live in. When I took this job down south in a town thats well has more bad areas than good areas, we made sure we stayed on the right area of town in a brand new neighborhood. Your place is cute & trust me you are never quite finished with your house no matter what you improve. In some ways be glad you don't have grass as at least then you won't have to mow it twice a week in the rainy season!

I've had many lunches at GF Cafe & each time it has been amazing. Beside my first time there, every other time I've had the most amazing servers that are attentive and funny and looking like they are having a good time. You will probably love it!

OK, good to know I'm not the only young one in here with these people who are easily corrupting me since they're older (but only by a little bit, right? ;) )

I know about never being finished....my mother has been in her house almost 20 years. Just when she finishes one improvement project, it's time to do maintenance on something old! She's about to replace every single doorknob, draw/cabinet pull, and hinge in the house because she decided that brass is sooooo 1993 and it's time for oil-rubbed bronze now. Getting parts of my house not so 1980 would be nice!

Good to hear you liked GF Cafe!

Abby, love the house! It's cute! And I hope you can convince your Gran to try Napoli ... it was really quite good and the waiters were cute, too! :rolleyes1

Thanks Brenda! I talked to my Gram more about food and the conversation went like this:

Abby : Here Gram, look at this review of Via Napoli (shows her Brenda's review). Are we sure we don't want to try it?

Gram: It does look yummy and I'm up for it and anything else you love.

Abby: Well are you ok giving up Grand Floridian Cafe to eat at Via Napoli? If we really want to do both, we could do Via Napoli for lunch on our Epcot day.

Gram: You mean NOT give up tea? I don't have an itinerary yet, you know! You're slacking in your trip planning!

Abby: No Gram, we were never considering giving up Tea. I'll just make a lunch ADR for Via Napoli. I'm not slacking! I was waiting til we made all of ADR's to send you a copy.

:rotfl:

Abby, VERY cute house! :goodvibes I love that it's in the woods--you could use pine needles for ground cover since it's too shady for grass. Be glad you won't have to mow grass! We got a book at Lowe's on landscaping (not that we've done any ) and it had a lot of ideas for shady yards.

Thanks Jamie. I am very glad I don't have to mow, or spend the money on buying a mower! Thanks for the tip about the book.

Abby - I love the house!!!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks!

I know...my poor car! When I first knew I was moving, I was all excited because I could finally give my poor car garage parking. But then I realized I could put the kitty litter boxes in there and not have to smell them in the house and that took priority!

Thanks for the plant tips. I can do a lot of stuff here because it only dips below freezing for about 2 weeks a year.

Abby, what a cute house!!

I wasn't here last year...whats this about holiday cards? Sounds like a sweet idea. :goodvibes

I was not around last year either... So I am not sure what this is?

Last year a bunch of us from the thread exchanged holiday cards....it was a lot of fun to get all the cards in the mail each day...I know that I got more from the friendies than I did from my family. :lmao: Anyone up for it again this year?

Anyone miss me yet??? :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Waiting on news of my laptop... keeping fingers crossed it's soon... I AM making nice friends here at the library... but they are VERY quiet...:lmao:

I would be up for that. Nice way for the friendies to bond that doesn't include alcohol. :lmao:

We all miss you Michelle! Hope your laptop is going to be ok and you can leave your quiet friends for the rowdy bunch.

Hoping Michelle gets her laptop soon. The library can be a lousy place to hang!

Are you guys trying to tell me something??? :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Hey Kat... Hoping soon you can uncross those body parts!!! ;)

Things are not so happy here today. Bob was laid off at work yesterday. It came out of the blue at the end of his completion of a huge project. It is also due to the company-wide loss of a national homebuilder's business. To say he is devastated is such an understatement. In the 39 years he has been in the workforce since college, he has never been laid off. He has lost his job before because of corporate takeovers, etc. But to be told he was the one they could "do without" more easily than any of the other designers that are left has been crushing to him.

Not sure where we go from here. He has to go into work later this morning to talk to corporate HR and they will discuss the package his boss insisted they put together for him.

My biggest concern at this point is the loss of all our insurance. My greatest happiness in all of this is that our daughters are not directly impacted by it.

Oh Elin, I am so very sorry for you. I know it is against the law, but you have to wonder if age discrimination/years of service are at play here. My husband is a banker--when cuts need to be made it is often the long term employee (hence elder) that gets the axe because they are being paid the most.

When you get to be "of an age", it is twice as hard to deal with a lay-off and potential re-employment. When I read your post, my heart sunk to my stomach. Your Bob's plight is the greatest fear of all of us who are in our waning work years. :sad2:

I will say a prayer that this is the proverbial door closing, but window opening for him and your family.

Oh Elin, I am so sorry to hear this too.

I am glad to see that you could find a silver lining in this about your girls, but I am sending my prayers and wishes to you and your family. Hopefully everything will right itself soon.

I know you have heard many stories of people being laid off, I was laid off last year and it was very hard on me. I had never been laid off before in my years of working. It was very difficult, I went through many phases trying to deal with it. First I was very depressed worrying about what I was going to do and the impact on my family. Then I got very bitter toward my boss and HR for allowing this to happen, then one day after about 2 month of being pitiful, I woke up and kicked myself in the butt and got on with life. Eventually I got a job, it was not what I wanted but I knew I had to work, so I am doing a job I really don't care for but getting that paycheck and having a job was what I needed.

I know everyone deals with everything differently but my husband was my rock through all of this, and the best thing he ever did for me was just listen and not try to "fix" it for me.

Again my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Oh Elin, I am so sorry. I can't imagine how devastated he is, my heart just aches for him and for you my friend. Praying there is something good to come out of this and soon for y'all.

Elin, you know you have lots of support here. :grouphug:

I think what Tess said is wonderful: "I will say a prayer that this is the proverbial door closing, but window opening for him and your family." I second that!

Elin, so so sorry to read your post about Bob. I agree with Tess, who said it beautifully, and if there is anything we can do let us know. In the meantime we send you positive thoughts and good vibes and virtual hugs and all that good stuff.:hug::hug:
