Would Bendaroos be a good thing for the kids to play with in the car (during our long drive from PA to FL)? They get all excited about the commercial, and I'd love to have a great surprise toy that they all could play with (they are 8,6 and 3).

can you buy them in any local stores or do I have to buy them from the tv?

Our Walgreens has them for $19.99. We don't have them yet, although my DDs ask every time we're in there. I'd love to hear how other people like them. I was concerned that they might stain the walls if the girls stick them on and don't take them down right away.

I think they'll basically just wax on a string, right? So they might melt/stick together if you leave them in the hot car. Hopefully someone can give you better advice on this!

i got them for my kids for Christmas... i found them at walgreens... i have seen them recently at either walmart or target or toys r us (sorry i can't be more specific, but i have been at all 3 recently and my memory is failing me!)...

both DS and DD loved the commercial, and seem to like playing with them... i think they would be fun the car... there is a lightly sticky coating to them and they are made of wax, so i wouldn't leave them in the car in florida or you will have a mulit-colored melted mess!

we drove from nj to fl twice and i am all for anything that will keep them happy (and quiet!)

have a great trip!

Cool :cool1:

I will check Walgreens and perhaps pick up a pack to use in the car. I guess I could keep them in the cooler if it started getting too warm, but I am sure they'll be ok with the a/c on.

Yeah - I am all about just trying to keep them happy on the long ride. I have a lot of goodies planned for them which will hopefully keep them happy.

It's not so bad finding things to keep the 6 & 8 year olds happy, but harder for the 3yo (who can't play nintendo or read). But I bet he could do bendaroos!

Have great trips everyone!

DD got a few in her kid's meal at Zaxby's one time and we had so much fun sitting there playing with those things. They only gave you like 8 of them but we have great imaginations :lmao:, I'm sure the people that work at Zaxby's were ready for us to get out of there :rotfl:

I've got to tell you that I hate those things!

My DD works at Zaxbys so we go there about once a week. I finally told her to stop putting them in the bags for her little brothers. I'm sure they would be fine for playing with in some situations. However my boys always wound up playing with them on the floor. I have wood laminate floors and that wax sticks to them and is a pain in the rear to get up!! I literally had to get down on my hands and knees and scrape it up with my fingernail.

I would be wary of them melting in the car and making a big mess. I have taken a bunch of pipe cleaners before though. They can be twisted and used basically the same way without the worry of the mess.

My kids have Wikki Sticks which are similar to bendaroos. We picked them up at AC Moore. They seem to like them and yes I think it would be great entertainment for short intervals of time. As one of the pp's said, you need a good bunch to do something really creative with them, mine each have their own "party pack" which is 8 sticks each (and we have several more packs to dole out as needed). Ours have been through the washer and dryer without melting (darn pants pockets), and we've also never had an issue getting them off floors or walls.

My dd wants these too! I have been debating buying them, I might get them for the plane to keep her occupied. To the original poster, I see u live in pa, do u have a boscovs, if you do they were 14.99 there last time I was in the one by me, the are in the as seen on tv isle not with the toys. They also have them at target and walgreens.

We have this version as well, and DS has done a lot with them. I think they would be a great idea for your trip! The kids will probably come up with way more ideas one their own, but if they need a little inspiration, have then try to -

Each make an animal and guess what each other made.

Write their names (or letters for the little one.)

Make a tic-tac-toe board on the window and play. (During a break or rainy day in a hotel, you can even make an entire checkers set with enough of them.)

Make flowers - flat or 3D.

Make Disney characters, of course!

Make a map, or design the floor plan of a house.

Make "puppets" and tell each other stories with them.

The possibilities are endless - one of those great toys that can do so much yet take up so little space when you travel!

We love Bendaroos.:thumbsup2 My DD5 will play with them for hours....Personally we have never had a problem with them being messy, I too have wood laminate throughout our home. Maybe if they were stepped on....that would probably make a mess...not sure about them melting in the car. My sister works for Walgreens and purchased them for DD's bday. She absolutely loves them :goodvibes

How are they radically different from pipecleaners? I've only seen them on TV, and they look pretty expensive for what you're getting.

They are totally glorified pipecleaners! However, my dad got the kids a pack for Christmas and my son who normally hates any craft, coloring, etc., played with them for hours and hours. My daughter who loves that stuff loved Bendaroos even more. (Kids are 6 and 8.) I thought they'd be a huge waste of money, but the kids really love the things.

Knowing my boys they may very well have stepped on them:confused3;). I just know I'm not letting them have them here anymore....maybe at grandmas:rotfl: JK
