Benadryl on flights

This is what's giving me the willies especially since DD is a preemie and our flight is very close to RSV season starting. I guess I can still bring on my Purell Wipes since they're not "Evil Gel" and sealed up.

I called American Airlines yesterday regarding DD's Benadryl. I was told that it falls under "essential non-prescription" and would be ok to bring onboard. Even more so when it was Children's Benadryl and we'll have her with me.

But does anyone know if snack food like crackers, cheerios, or even a sandwich is allowed?

I haven't heard much about food. After security, we were on Southwest, I bought a sandwich, DS10 bought a pizza. We took both on board. Not sure if they would question a homemade sandwich or not. I would think crackers and small boxes (closed) of Cheerios would be ok.

From the TSA:

You are permitted to bring:

Small amounts of Baby formula and breast milk if a baby or small child is traveling
Liquid prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger’s ticket
Up to 8 oz. of liquid or gel low blood sugar treatment
Up to 4 oz. of essential non-prescription liquid medications

Sounds like an essential non prescription med to me...how about telling the DR's office the situation and seeing if they can write a script or a note without an actual visit? and then a new sealed bottle?
