Ben Roethlesberger In Motorcycle Accident

Maybe it's just me, but I find this to be very insulting. A portion goes to the charity? Why not all of it? This seller surely can't be trying to benefit from his misfortune by having nothing but dry wit to push, right?

What a loser! These sellers always rear their ugly heads when something horrible happens to someone. It happened after John Denver died, it happened after Dale Earnhardt died, and on and on it goes.

Well, Ben has been upgraded to FAIR, which is really good news. Wonder if anyone has said I TOLD YOU SO yet!!! :teeth:

I didn't read every post on this thread, so I don't know if it has been posted but now it seems that Big Ben may not have a motorcycle license.

I am a Steeler's fan, but I really think he is an idiot.

I had just read this as well Miss Jasmine. Not that his having a license would have mattered much in this case. Just one more piece of the equation.

This is great news! I'm sure they're all biting their tongues. I know I would be! At least face to face anyway.

All he had to do was apply for a permit to get a motorcycle license. If you've got a valid driver's license in the state, you're allowed to drive the bike on a permit for so long. You then go and take a test when you're ready. Well, this was the way it was around 7 years or so ago when my girlfriend bought a bike. I hope if he didn't have a license he at least had that permit.

Opps, I went back to finish reading the article that was linked and it looks like the permit expired on March 29. Ouch!

So, does he get his regular pay, signing bonus, etc. even though he can't play because of this bone-head move? Didn't he just get a big signing bonus? I guess that would be money in the bank.

I mean, I hope the guy is alright, but I don't think the Steelers should have to waste millions on someone who took this kind of risk if he can't play ball.

In my State you have to be riding in the company of someone who does have a valid motorcycle license when you only have a permit. I have seen many people on motorcycles get caught with only a permit and not only do you get a healthy ticket, the bike gets towed away. I have seen motorcycles dragged up the ramp of a flat bed tow truck when riders get caught with no license. One other point as well. If you don't have a license, how do you get insurance? I had to give my license number when I was in the insurance agent's office filling out the required forms. With no license or insurance, you're automaticly at fault in an accident, no matter who caused it. At least in Illinois that's how the law works.

I'm a Dallas Cowboy fan but I think Ben Roethlesberger is a hellva player, a great guy and I wish the Cowboys had him. Having said that, I think what he did is beyond dumb and I can only hope that he learns from this. He was riding a Suzuki Hayabusa 1300 and it's only the fastest production motorcycle on the planet! He was riding that beast without a helmet or leathers. A good set of leather riding gear with built in knee and elbow pads can really help out. That bike is not designed for a beginer or novice and only should be in the hands of a seasoned rider or pro. I'll provide a link below to the bike. It's a monster of a bike and can top speeds of 200+ with ease.

Just heard he's expected to be released in 3 to 5 days from hospital:wizard: , no structural damage to knees.

His motorcycle permit did expire in March. Believe in PA the helmet law requires that you have a valid license (not permit) for 2 years in order to forego the wearing said helmet. Wonder how he got insurance coverage w/o a valid license?

Do we know if he has/had insurance on the bike?

The local news (Philly) reported that since the helmet law was repealed, motorcycle deaths have increased 40 percent. Coincidence? I doubt it.

If not, he'd be breaking the law...PA requires that you insure your bike for the entire year (whether you "garage it" over the winter or not).

This may be true (I'm not familiar with the law regarding insuring it over the winter), but if he was driving without a permit and/or license, he's also breaking the law.

They keep harping on the type of bike it is here (radio/news). Of course he is going to buy a 'cool' bike that can go really fast.

But.... If he was speeding or being reckless, that would be relevant. But, he was going at or below the speed limit from all accounts. Was not disobeying the rules of the road in away way, from what I have heard. So, the 'monster' of a bike has nothing to do with the accident. It's the beast of the windsheild that he hit that is really important here....his not wearing a helmet put him in mortal danger and like you, I can only hope he learns a really valuable lesson from this and wears a helmet from now on.

As far as the license/permit...well, he will certainly will end up being fined by that. As far as insurance, you cannot register a plate in PA without proof of insurance.

Interestingly, Rendell was quoted yesterday as saying the number of deaths have been significantly reduced. I am not sure of the stats, either way. But that sure could make him look pretty bad...if he has his figures wrong.

I think they are harping on the bike because of his comments after Kellen Winslow's accident.

the entire article is here http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2481004 he states several times that he doesn't ride the type of bikes that he was riding yesterday. Here is one quote.

ESPN: What has (Steelers head coach) Bill Cowher said with respect to riding a motorcycle?
Roethlisberger: People blew that out of proportion, what we talked about.

ESPN: What was it?
Roethlisberger: We talked in camp. We were just standing there, he asked me about how I rode, who I rode with, am I safe, and I told him exactly what I told you. I don't ride sport bikes. I ride Harleys and choppers and I ride in a group, and we point out potholes as we go by so other people will know ... he asked me about wearing helmet, and I said I don't wear a helmet, and he goes just be careful. He never told me not to ride. He never told me to wear a helmet. Then people said that I just denied everything he said. He didn't say anything like that. He just told me be careful and use my head.

The whole thing is really sad. I'm thrilled that he'll be ok and that his injuries aren't career ending. I don't think he'll be healed in time to start the season but hopefully he'll be able to play for the majority of it.

This is going to be a major PR nightmare if he wasn't licensed or insured.

Good point...but it would be more important if the type of bike had something to do with the accident.

I don't care what he chooses to ride, but he should wear a helmet and he should be licensed. The insurance issue is only speculation at this point, I have not heard any evidence that he was not insured.

I was just sickened when I heard the law was being repealed. The arguments for no helmets make no sense to me, ei the biker being the only one taking a risk.

IMO, yeah the rider may be the one who suffers bodily injury without a helmet, but as a car driver, I would really not want to have to live with their death (in the case of an accident) for the rest of my life because they want to feel the wind in their hair. We have seatbelt laws, the law should also require helmets for motorcyclists. JMHO

Actually, the bike was GIVEN to him in exchange for him doing an appearance or promo thing for the bike place.
yeh i heard that gov. rendell quote too. don't even get me started on that sheister. He better check his facts before he speaks next time.
I knew as soon as he said that, that he was wrong. One of his gangster buddies must have paid him to say that. :rotfl:

This is what I was going to say. I didn't think he bought that bike either.

I heard reports this morning he will be fine, released from the hospital in 3-5 days.

No motorcycle permit or license and his registration was expired or inspection not sure what they said.

And on the Pittsburgh left. From all accounts as I understand Ben was not stopped at the light he was moving when she made the left. I have never heard of someone coming to a stop when they are approaching an intersection and let someone go. That could cause someone to hit him from behind.

I love the Steelers, we've had season tickets for years but..... a little girl 12 years old went missing south of Pittsburgh yesterday in Greene County. Amber alert, hellicopters the whole deal. That is the SECOND story behind Ben. Sorry but I feel that is plain wrong. A little girl missing should be priority over anything especially since we now know Ben is in "fair" condition.

We're really glad Ben is going to be OK. :teeth:

As sad as it is, a child is reported missing and/or abducted every 40 seconds in this country or over 2000 per day under the age of 18. Some are taken by parents in custodial battles, some are taken by other family members, and some are taken by total strangers.

All of them deserve the nations attention, but unfortunately, most names are never heard by anyone outside the family. :(

I can't blame reporters for covering Ben's condition they way they are. It's much more of a rarity and fans LOVE him and want updates on his condition.
