do you wear a belt when running? i mostly do my running at night, and am only up to five miles. but when i run in the mornings, i find that i feel like i need water. i'm assuming it's because i haven't had a lot of water to drink yet. plus, the sun here gets hot quickly.

does anyone wear a belt here for shorter runs during the summer? our weather can be really hot and the sun can be killer. i know i will eventually need one when i'm training for the half (but that's later this year).

is it silly to wear a belt on a 5-6 mile run? i just want a little water (and somewhere to put my phone so it doesn't jiggle on my waistband).

do you have one you love?

I don't wear one anymore (I generally just carry an Amphipod now, though I have a Camelbak which I am planning on using for ultras later this year), but I used to have a FuelBelt one that wasn't bad.

I had the Endurance 4-bottle belt, and though there was some adjustment (because it will slosh a little, no matter what), and it took a couple of runs to get used to grabbing the bottles and getting them back in properly, it worked pretty well.

Both DH and I use the Amphipod RunLite belts. He sometimes uses the 10oz bottles, but I prefer the 8. I use a small pouch fro my camera or if I just need 1 gel. A larger pouch for racing. If you feel like you need teh water, you shoudl take it. In the winter, I will go 6 miles w/o water/powerade. In teh summer, I don't go out w/o. i take fluids in every half mile.

I know many people like the spi belts too.

It is definitely not silly to wear a belt--at any distance. I run with mine (Nathan Speedbelt 2) for any run where I'll be out for longer than 1/2 hour. I carry water, and depending on distance, a gel. I also carry my driver's license and insurance card--just in case.

Head to a running store and check out the selection. I know that I ended up buying a different one than I researched online, because it felt better for me.

I have a two bottle Fuel Belt - I generally don't take it unless I'm going more than 6 miles but have been known to regret that decision in the summer. I usually don't like wearing belts because they tend to ride up and stay near my waist but I'd prefer them on my hips.

In the winter, I usually just shove the bottles into my jacket pocket. For whatever reason, the belt and my jacket don't get along. The velcro always comes out a little and will stick to my clothing. I've ruined two shirts that way.

thanks for the info! :)

i'll have to try to get to one of our running stores soon. ours are not really close by, of course! lol!

i saw one i liked online, but checking them out in person makes sense (thanks for that suggestion).

i have found that i'm coming in and downing a huge glass of water immediately. and then, having another glass pretty quickly. it's not even hot yet, but the sun wore me out the other day (not used to it since i mostly run at night so DH can be with the kids).

I live in MS and it gets HOT here. IN the summer I will take it on 3-4 mile runs! I ahve the 2 bottle with a little zipper pocket as well. It takes getting used to with all the sloshing but other than that it's better than having no water!

This was my main concern. I have a very hourglass figure. I can't stand to have things moving around on me. I've never taken water with me on a run for this reason. What can you strap on that stays in place? I have a Camelbak, but it cuts into the sides of my chest, plus it draws a lot of attention to said chest, which I try to avoid.

I just a fuelbelt off ebay.... GOOD price and bought the extra pocket for my cellphone. w/ shipping total was $20, Phoneix Company is the store I got mine from.... LOVE it!

Amphipod has a very wide belt. you may want ot try one on and see if it might stay better.

Before the Disney half this year, I exclusively used my Race Ready shorts with the built in pockets. I have 3 Hammer bottles (about 6 oz each) that I can take with me. I still have room left for keys, phone and sport beans.

At the expo, I bought a belt (similar to spibelt) mostly to use for my bib. The girl who sold it to me said I could hold a can of beer in it (not that I would mind you). It actually has 2 compartments that expand and zipper closed. I haven't really used it for more than the bib, but it was comfortable to wear while running the half in Fl.

Hey I have a fuel belt, it works well enough. I live in DC so I luck out with strategic placement of water fountains. For racing/etc I also have one of those Spi Belts. Very convenient. I usually bring some food (jelly beans/etc).

I always wear a WDW waist pack with at least one amphipod 8 oz bottle attached, my camera, cell phone, gu, id. I have been known to wear the amphipod belt fitted somewhat over the waistpack if I'm going for the longer distances during training with four 8-oz water bottles.

I do like going light if I could, but have been taught to always train with what you will wear for race day. Being a back of the pack person, I've been involved with the event running out of water, hence the one water bottle always with me and I will fill it along the way if needed. I like taking my own gu so I can have that when I'm ready.

With all this, I never wear the belt around my waist. I prefer to wear it very low on my hips. I position the belts just at the bend in my legs and wear it kind of snug. It does not ride up that way and does not irritate my "tender belly." I may not be a fashion statement, but it is comfortable for me. Experiment with placement as well as different things as you practice.

I also use the race number belt. It is easier to move around the layers if I'm wearing layers as I shed those.
