Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

We're headed to WI on Friday for the weekend ... Jay's brother and his family live up there and we haven't paid them a visit for a while so wish me good luck. We're staying at their house with them, their four kids, and two dogs.

Auntie B is going to need a drink by the time she gets home on Monday afternnon. :rotfl2:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Okay, I know how you feel. It may not be for a weekend, but we're going to my MIL's on Sunday. My husband is one of four. His two sisters are married, and they each have a daughter. So when we go to my MIL's this weekend, we will be QUITE a crowd. By the by, all the children (mine included, I have one) are four and under. :thumbsup2

Never mind the cats, dog, and chickens.

Oh yes. Chickens. Different kinds, too, and one that does this extremely annoying, braying kind of noise.

:lmao:

Well, since there are 18 of us in the immediate family, and we all not only live within 5 minutes of each other, but also all work together, I've kind of become immune to the insanity that is our crew. But when we are all in the same house, it definitely requires help of the alcoholic variety to make it through!

Well, you've just settled into your own brand of crazy. Nothing wrong with that! And nothing wrong with a little...sustenance to see you through. ;)

I'm still thinking of how many cans of paint it took to paint it over and I SWEAR that they team who thought it up are must have been sent to pick up trash in the MK, but that would be putting down those very nice sanitation people... :rotfl2:

Actually, did you know they didn't paint on it? It was a big blow-up balloon structure that they blew up around the castle and then basically let all the air out when it was time to take it down.

I may have fantasized about getting close enough to pop it. :lmao:

I didn't know it was a balloon! Hell, I would have tried to pop it for sure if I'd known that! :rotfl2:

Our Wisconsin neices and nephew are really good, sweet kids ... it's just that I'm one of those people who likes family in small doses and I really need quiet time at the end of the day to wind down. Jay's family thinks I'm nuts because they are a huge, loud crowd ... he's got something like 30 first cousins and it just gets bigger and louder from there.

Being around them for too long shatters my delicate nerves. :lmao:

Have a great trip, Heather! :beach:

Thanks Elin!

The image of that thing (and we were unlucky enough to see it in person) is burned into my retinas ... I can still see it in my head.

It was hideous.

Have a great weekend Heather!

Thanks Brenda! Sounds like you've got your own brand of fun to deal with. Perhaps a flask is in order? You could tell the kids it's your "medicine"....:lmao:

I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad that I missed the giant pepto cupcake castle.

Robin, that slush sounds really tasty. I think I may have to try that next weekend ... we're going to be out of town over the 4th, so no chance for booze other than beer.

It is really good. I'm not big on bourbon but all that stuff mixed together and frozen is really good on a nice hot summer day! Or night. Or morning :lmao:

And I'm still really annoyed about the DVC / travel agent glitch in the on-line system. It takes a special kind of stupid to program that system so that it doesn't recognize those kind of reservations.

Unbelievable. :headache::mad:

If I did something like that in my job I wouldn't have a job any longer. Results matter where I work, but I think that Disney believes they can get away with sub-standard IT because they have an unlimited audience. If I get miffed and start using my DVC points for trips off property who at Disney cares if it's because of what I term poor quality of service? There are twenty people crawling over themselves to nab our villa during October.

Oh well ... I'm just a critic at heart. And I expect more from Disney because they used to expect more from themselves.

This whole thing is so annoying. I'm sure they knew it would be a problem -- how could they just set up the system to only accomodate one kind of reservation number. I expect more from Disney too, and you'd especially think they would want to accommodate the DVC members.

I think all the new dining system has just caused more headaches. Now there are problems with a split stay where you have to call twice if you are switching resorts. Because the system now recognizes the check out date of the first stay and won't let you book anything past that. Even if you have another consecutive reservation. Stupid system. Okay, did they really not anticpate this issue???

sounds a lot like my Open House Punch but slushy... I am making it this weekend!!

We have rented DVC points for our October trip and are in the same boat you are Robin. I have to make ADRs on Saturday and assume I will need to call that morning (along with half the DIS Boards) for all except our very first one. I ought to be able to make that one online. I also plan to use the online system to tweak daily until satisfied.

I thought your Open House Punch sounded great -- am going to have to go back and search for the recipe since I don't think I copied it down the first time.

Good luck with your ADRs. Hopefully the phone system will not be as busy since more people will be online. I see you're staying at BCV. It is so nice there, I'm sure you will have a great stay. There was nothing available when I checked so I'll be at Kidani in Oct.

That sounds really good!

I can see you're all conspiring to turn me into a lush.

Well...I guess whether or not you've done the actual turning is debatable...perhaps it's just been lurking underneath the surface. pirate:

Happy to be an enabler!:rotfl:

If you are within 90 days you do not need to enter a reservation number at all.

Thanks for the tip! At 90 days exactly will it still ask for a reservation number? Or do you have to wait until you are less than 90 for no reservation number? Just wondering if I can use the online system for my first night...

Well, friendies, I will probably be AWOL for a few days.....I'm headed to the beach for our annual family 4th week. Twelve adults, four teenagers, and six kids under the age of 7....all in one house. Thank god there'll be plenty of booze.....:rotfl:

Hope everyone has a great holiday if I don't get to talk to you guys before the 4th!

Hope you have a great time!:)

Here you go:

Open House Punch

2 1/2 c. Southern Comfort or good bourbon
6 oz. can of frozen OJ (thawed and undiluted)
12 oz. can of frozen lemonade (thawed and undiluted)
2/3 c. lemon juice
3 liters of lemon lime soda
ice
mint sprigs
lemon slices

Combine liquor and juices stirring well. Add soda and ice and garnish (if desired). We put the first 4 ingredients in a pitcher in the refrigerator and chill very well. Then, when we are ready to drink we add the chilled soda and no garnish.

Good luck with your ADRs. Hopefully the phone system will not be as busy since more people will be online. I see you're staying at BCV. It is so nice there, I'm sure you will have a great stay. There was nothing available when I checked so I'll be at Kidani in Oct.

We love BCV for F&W but my first choice for this trip was Kidani!! There was nothing available... :rotfl: And Bob and I will be luxuriating in a 1 BR villa instead of a studio because that was all that was available at BCV.

That person whould have been drug into the street and covered in Pepto and marshmallows as punishment. I refused to get my picture in front of it when I saw it. It does not exist in my scrapbooks. It never happened. ***lalalala***

If you dare...

And it WAS painted... the attachments were inflatable... :scared:

They did it right before the Castle was due for a major overhaul...

Why, why did I click?!:headache:

Aww, I hear you. I love my nephews sooo much, but after every visit I can feel my ovaries shrinking a little. I like my quiet home.

I think the pepto and the marshmallows should be on a hot summer day... in the middle of Main St.....

Have you read Jasper Fforde? I'm assuming you have if you like things like this. I love the Thursday Next series!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Woohoo! Another Fforde Ffan!
I know that I've recommended the Thursday Next series to Brenda before. I enjoy the geek factor and "inside" jokes that anyone who likes to read should easily understand. I thought the first book of the Nursery Crimes series was good, but I didn't like the second one as much. I don't even know if he had a third, but it's been a while since I checked.

There goes Michelle, beating me to the punch again!
I was going to say that I knew the Cakestle (as I remember that Pepto Pink monstrosity) was painted, but with inflatables on the turret parts only. I was lucky enough to see it not just on one trip, but two!

Ah, those were the days. ;)

Hope you have a good time, Brenda and I can totally sympathize with the loud extended in-laws thing! MIL thought I was a big snot for a long time because I used to bring a book over there on Sundays when we were first married and would keep my nose in it while everyone else practiced their loudness!

That sounds really good! I'm thinking it would be yummy with a good vodka, too...

I posted a Vodka Slush recipe way back too! I will see if I can dig it up and repost.

FWIW... When we made the Open House Punch and the Vodka Slush we found that the 7-Up made the drink too sweet for us this year. I guess our tastebuds are changing! We used half 7-Up and half Lime Seltzer and loved the tartness!

These are all the way back on page 162!

Vodka Slush

6 oz. can of frozen OJ (thawed and undiluted)
12 oz. can of frozen lemonade (thawed and undiluted)
12 oz. can of frozen limeade (thawed and undiluted)
1 cup sugar
3 1/2 cups water
2 cups vodka
2 liter bottle of lemon-lime soda

Combine first 6 ingredients, mixing well. Freeze for 48 hours, stirring occasionally. For each serving spoon 3/4 cup frozen mixture into a tall glass; fill with soda. Serve at once!

It doesn't seem like that long ago that you posted the reicpes

It wasn't very long ago ... just a couple of weeks but I've dropped the ball on updating the links because it's been so busy at work and now I'm too busy thinking about ADRs and F&W and just generally being lazy. And we have all been chatty ... which is fun. I'm starting to wonder if this thread is going to make it to October ... I think we get closed at 3700 posts. :scared1:

BTW, if anyone is interested I finished my cruise report on my blog (link in signature) :goodvibes Not too long till I start the next trip/food report :goodvibes

For the record, I was in no way saying that you dropped the ball on anything!!!! It was more a comment on how fast time flies. I'm having trouble today believing that it's July already :scared: Where did the year go?

Guess we'll be starting "Bendy & her Friendies part deux" pretty soon :thumbsup2

I didn't take it that way at all. I just feel bad that people have posted stuff on a thread that only I can edit and then I slipped on the linkage - I have an overdeveloped sense of responsibility. It gets me into trouble all the time. :lmao:

And I'm with ya on the passage of time ... where has the year gone and why won't the weight come off??? :scared1:

Guess we'll be starting "Bendy & her Friendies part deux" pretty soon :thumbsup2

I'de love to keep it going indefinitely ... I'd miss talking with everyone if we all disappeared after this year's F&W trips.

BTW ... I will catch up on your blog later tonight. Off to chain myself to my cube ... another day toiling for the soulless dominions of finance means another penny saved for fun-filled food somewhere other than Stinktown!

I can't wait for this one on our trip! :goodvibes

I'm looking forward to Sci-Fi, too. Seems like a great place to relax, get out of the crowds and heat and cool off.

What a great line up!

Thanks! We're being adventuresome and trying a few new places this time.:goodvibes

It was pretty bad. I remember thinking at the time that it looked like they gave the Artist Christo a free week at Disney and this was how he thanked them. :rotfl::rotfl:

Guess if we get closed, we'll just have to start over with a new thread. I bet we're up to the challenge!!

BTW, if anyone is interested I finished my cruise report on my blog (link in signature) :goodvibes Not too long till I start the next trip/food report :goodvibes

I'll be reading! :goodvibes

I'm off to walk this morning, and then errands later. DH is off on Fri, so I want to stay a bit ahead. We're going to be slightly boring for the 4th. I'm planning to pick up Famous Dave's and we'll have a little just us bar-b-que. Can't go wrong with their Texas Pit sauce. :cool1: We'll have plenty of left overs--always a good thing! :thumbsup2
