Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

So many posts ... too tired to respond to them all, but love love love reading them all! :grouphug:

Angela, glad to see you're here again and so sorry to hear you've been under the weather. Your fur-babies are precious and the orange one looks just like a baby Handsome Pete (that's our fur baby). Orange tabbies are super lovey and friendly. :goodvibes

I want to take the Homer logo and make rectangular buttons to wear in October. Wouldn't that be a hoot? :lmao:

I have photos of some food packaging from various overseas markets that I can't post here. I like to take pictures of food packaging that makes sense in other countries but means something else to Americans.

I do have some that are postable.

I love stuff like this. I always feel kind of bad for the CMs in Japanmart because Jay and I only go there to snicker at the food labels, but it's so not supposed to be funny that it's funny. :rotfl2:

Ahhh, who can forget the allure of crunky? :lmao:

Chelle, I hope your Artist Pointe dessert turned out well for your family! I saw your post too late to give you an opinion early enough; I agree that comparing the recipes was very confusing. I don't even try things with pie crust, but that sounded like way too much baking powder in one and not enough sugar in the other.

Does anyone else, when travelling overseas, does anyone find visits to local grocery stores/delis/food markets among the most interesting sights? I'll remember my supermarket visits (esp. in places like China & Japan) more clearly than the usual monuments because it's so interesting.

We lived in Malaysia for a year and a half, and boy, you are right about the supermarkets being interesting in Asia! For us, it was not only fun looking at the items available (and trying to figure out why on earth Thomas English Muffins needed to be in the Non-Halal section considering that they contained neither pork nor alcohol), but because of the crowd that we attracted when we were shopping! I guess my 6 foot 2 hubby and blond, blue-eyed baby girl were quite a sight for the locals.:rotfl:

It turned out really good, so good that DH just finished his 2nd bowl

I went with the 2nd one, which when I did a google search for "Disney's Artist Point Berry Cobbler" that was the 1st one to come up and it said it was the Chef's recipe. I ended up putting it in two 8 inch round cake pans and it worked out well. Nicely browned and set in about 25 minutes. :goodvibes

What a yummy dessert to serve. Glad it turned out well!!:goodvibes

Thanks very, very much D&R for all your helpful information. I called DH a bit ago, we talked it over. Next call I made--WDW. We're booked!!!:cool1::cool1:

You are welcome! I'm sure you are going to love staying there. One of our favorite places at BWI is the Belle Vue Lounge, get place for an evening cocktail :cloud9:

I love checking out the food packaging. Rick and I get a kick out of the ones in Japan :lmao:

happy Friday everyone! I'm so glad this week is almost over.

Kinda bummed because we've had to cancel three foodies events this month thanks to my ... outbreak. Two dinners and a drink-fest at the opera this evening, but I'm so tired (and achy) by the end of the day that we thought it best to just let these events pass us by. There will be others.

There's always October! :cool1:

We are getting pumped now that our 90-day ADR date is fast approaching ... less than 30 days to reservation making time! :lmao:

Note to self ... must try lounge! :thumbsup2

We've actually considered supplementing our Drink Around the World challenge with a drink around the boardwalk / beach & yacht club / swolphin staggerfest but we're not sure that we're up to that much alcohol. And I have to thank my friend RobertP for the idea ... it was his, not ours. :goodvibes

I'm sorry you had to cancel those events, but as you said, there will be more and October is getting closer and closer. I thought I was the only one counting down to ADR day....:lmao:

Note to self ... must try lounge! :thumbsup2

We're planning on meeting up at the BelleVue on Sat before FF. If your plans allow come and join us!:goodvibes

Bummer on having to miss the foodie events. I think next time I go to the doctors I'm going to ask about the shingles shot. After seeing what my Mom and friends have gone through with them I really don't want to come down with it!

You'll love the lounge, they even have board games available to play there :thumbsup2 I think I have a picture of the lounge, let me check.

Oh well, it's a Christmas shot, my other picture must have been pre-digital and home in a scrapbook. There is even an outside balcony to sit and look out over the Boardwalk.

Happy Friday to you!! Hope you're feeling a bit better day by day.
Sounds like the Bellevue Lounge is the favorite of all the Friendies! Maybe
We should consider it our official WDW Lounge.

What a great idea! Wish I was going to be there then. Those that are, though, have fun!!!

I'm so looking forward to going there!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!! :cheer2:

Here's another vote for the Belle Vue Lounge! :lovestruc We love sitting in there with a drink in hand after a long day at the parks. :cloud9:

Sorry you had to cancel your foodie events, B. On the bright side, think of all the money you are saving that can be spent in October! :thumbsup2 Hope you're feeling better soon!

Well, my fellow foodies, we are headed on safari to the 3rd largest Whole Foods market. They just opened the new store in Chicago and with any luck, we won't get lost in the 75,000-square-foot store next week! :rotfl: Hey Lori - have you been to the new Whole Foods yet? Oh, and we have to go to Graham Elliots place! He was great on Top Chef Masters last night! :thumbsup2

Cheers,
Michelle #4 (but you can call me Shelly)

No, I haven't been to the ginormous store yet. I saw that I have three options to get there. One by Interstate, one by Lake Shore Drive, and one by the Red Line "El". I-94 is closest to me, so that would be the easier drive. But something tells me I don't want to do that drive right now, since it's getting into rush hour on a Friday. :scared1: I definitely want to go to Graham Elliot with you! I don't have the channel for the Top Master Chef show, but I wish I did!

That is so cool! A child after my own heart! :) You know that Rick Bayless is also a Chicago chef and he will be on TCM next week. I have missed him 2 times at WDW Food and Wine! I love him!

I've been to Frontera Grill, and it was mighty tasty. I also know that they serve food at the bar, and some wickedly good top shelf tequila drinks. I would definitely like to return or go to the restaurant attached to Frontera, Topolbampo. I did see him at F&WF circa 2003.

I have three Whole Foods and two Trader Joes within 5 miles. (I never go to WF - I stick with TJs)

Ahh the Rick Bayless Lunch & Learn...what happened to the good old days at Epcot.

Yeah, I have a few Whole Foods and Trader Joe's near me, too. I went to Fresh Farms for the first time yesterday, but they might not be as widespread. When I saw they sold epasote, I immediately thought of that Lunch and Learn.

It was great! Somewhere one of my friends (who reads here HELLO) has a photo of him holding up a slice of bread that coincidentally is shaped like Mickey Mouse.

Eep! I know I am behind on the posts!

So you mean this photo?

mickeybread.jpg

I loved that. Loved the meal. Figures the first time I had this guy cook for me, I had to travel 1000 miles away instead of 18.

Love the Homer Simpson graphic, btw. I had a feeling you'd want to take on the challenge! And the Ruth Bader Ginsberg cologne? Priceless. :rotfl2:

Lori (and all the Disney foodists) have you seen the 5/09 menu for Bistro de Paris on Allears?

The Degustation Menu has...

wait for it....

Foie Gras Terrine. (For an extra $5 of course)

Some may want to think of that as an option for October. Looks like it costs a bit less than V&A costs, for the degustation menu with wine pairings. Without it seems to cost a good bit less than V&A. But who wouldn't want the wine pairings? AND they take The Discount Formerly Known As Disney Dining Experience.

I know Allears menus aren't always devastatingly accurate, but they do pretty well - and it's also a long time to October

I zipped over there, and wow! That is one amazingly delicious sounding menu. I may need to rethink our plans! And the price of $120.00 including pairings seems quite good. Not something we'd do often, but for a special night out this seems like a lovely option. :thumbsup2
(Of course, I realize the menu changes, but if this is a representation of what they do, we'll I think I'm in. :) )

I'll let you know how it goes... unless you get there before me this weekend! ;) BTW, here's a link to Top Chef Masters on Hulu...

Top Chef Masters

It says that they will have 2 full episodes up at a time, so keep an eye on that page. They should be posting the episodes soon. We love Hulu over here and have a laptop hooked up to our living room TV to watch shows on demand. Works great! :thumbsup2 I watch House & Fringe and several other shows on there. :goodvibes

Oh, and we are totally going to Graham Elliot! ... and Alinea but we've got to save up for that one! LOL!

Ohhhhh! Thanks for the info! We won't get to Bistro for our next trip in August, but it was already on the books for our Christmas/New Year's trip! This is great - can't wait to show DH! :yay:
