Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

Hi Brenda! I have to admit, I've been a lurker on some of your reports -- and just now found the Oct 2008 one (not sure how I missed it) and found this thread. Your reviews are always fun and very helpful so thanks! I can't believe all of the recipe links -- i will have to go back and check them out!

Anyway, I thought I'd join in on the fun -- you all seem like a fun bunch!:goodvibes

I will also be at F&W this October, from the 17th to the 23 at Kidani Village (wish I could be at BCV but no availability). Looks like there are a lot of people going at the same time.

I'm trying to plan my ADRs now since I can book next month and am thinking I might want to do one of the F&W events. I have never done one so I guess I will wait until the schedule comes out (not sure when they release it) and see what they are offering. I might need your veteran advice when it does.:thumbsup2

Also, sorry to hear you have been under the weather -- hope you are feeling better soon:hug:

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!

It calls for orange juice and mango juice. What I have used is Trader Joe's orange/mango/peach juice as they were unfortunately out of Orange Mango Blast.

Shake that with a shot of rum and a shot of Trader Joe's (or anybody else's) Light Coconut Milk.

Will probably recreate more on Friday night.

Wow, that sounds great! What are the proportions? I know you mention the shot of rum but how much coconut milk do you use as compared to the juice?

Thanks! :goodvibes

Hey y'all.....been super busy, haven't read back to check on everyone yet. Today is DH's birthday and his requested dessert was White Chocolate Bread Pudding, super easy and good.....

White Chocolate Bread Pudding
Sounds yummy, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the warm welcome....I have to say that you guys are a pretty intimidating lot....I feel like I'm chatting with DIS board royalty!

Brenda, we will be arriving the morning of 10/25 and leaving the evening of 10/29 so we will miss the meet. We wish it could be a longer trip, but I can only impose on my darling sister-in-law's gracious offer to take care of my rugrats for so long without ruining my chances of ever having free babysitting again!:) And we're planning a family trip for next June which will be a 10 day trip, so I guess I can't be too upset.
Welcome :flower3:

Haven't read it all but you are very good my friend!!!!!!:thumbsup2
You are too sweet!
We don't like change... :sad2:
Ain't it the truth

Hey all we are in Nice enjoying the Riviera. Kids and I have been on the road for almost two weeks now. Lots of great food and booze. Hope all is well with the friendies!!

How wonderful!
Chelle, I've read some of your blog and it's really good! :thumbsup2

Thanks honey!

Bendy-Friendie Bad Booze Alert!!!

Thanks for the warning, you know I love my Bailey's and would hate to get a bad booze substitute!

Checking in... I have kept up with all that is going on (welcome to our new posters! and I am glad you are feeling a little better, Brenda). I am not going to post a lot for a few days as this was my view from the deck this morning. I am a little preoccupied... ;) :teeth:

I think we're all a little jealous :goodvibes

Bendy, I know you commented on my blog (there & here), but I can't find the post. Thanks for the kind words

I don't know really, just poured it in. Used a bit less coconut milk than rum. Coconut milk seems to go a long way.

Isn't that the way with all alcoholic beverages? Pour a little of this, a little of that. Looks like I'll have to be adventurous! :thumbsup2

PNO4TE- LOVE your view! SO jealous!

Brenda - thanks for the bad booze alert! :upsidedow

TDC Nala - I'm definitely going to have to try the painkiller and experiment with proportions. Lord knows I've got a lot of pains to kill. ;)

Brenda,
Quick stop by to see how you are feeling and hoping all is well.

Much better thank you. Made it through the day and it wasn't too bad .. still painful but not like last week.

Can I just say how sad I am I'm not on this list?! I'm stuck pre-pre-pre planning our next trip in 2011.

I know you all will have so much fun - and hopefully there won't be too much competition for ADRs :rotfl:

We're sad you're not on the list either. But think how much great information we're all going to be able to give you and 2011 will be here before you know it! :goodvibes

Brenda...add us in for trip #3 during F&W for 10/16-10/19. I have a feeling our Dis meet is going to take over BCV's. :woohoo:

YIPPEE!! :cool1:

Elin, if I had that kind of view I wouldn't be posting here or anywhere else. Looks beautiful ... enjoy it!

Since this is the place to put drinks I will post that I have tried to recreate the "painkiller," a drink I had in the Virgin Islands last month.

It calls for orange juice and mango juice. What I have used is Trader Joe's orange/mango/peach juice as they were unfortunately out of Orange Mango Blast.

Shake that with a shot of rum and a shot of Trader Joe's (or anybody else's) Light Coconut Milk.

Hmmmm ... I wonder how a painkiller washes down a painkiller?

Hi there and welcome aboard! I'm glad you've enjoyed our reviews ... please jump right in and join the fun - everyone here is wonderful!

I will also be at F&W this October, from the 17th to the 23 at Kidani Village (wish I could be at BCV but no availability). Looks like there are a lot of people going at the same time.

Congrats on the October trip! As for F&W ... the rumor is that they will be releasing program information sometime next month and will begin taking reservations for those events on August 11th. Depending on your schedule and your budget, food & wine pairings are a nice way to dip a toe into the special event programming ... we also really liked our French Regional Lunch last year at Bistro Paris (a little pricey at $135pp, but worth it).

You'll get all kinds of advice from the friendies here ... lots of F&W veterans.

And I'm feeling a lot better, thanks very much!

Thanks for the warning, you know I love my Bailey's and would hate to get a bad booze substitute!

Bendy, I know you commented on my blog (there & here), but I can't find the post. Thanks for the kind words

Stick with the Bailey's or buy OMara's if you can find it. This stuff was just baaaaaad. We're still trying to figure out what we can mix it with to make it tolerable. :lmao:

You're very welcome ... I think your blog is quite good and chock full of helpful information. Your clients should really enjoy it and derive some real benefit from it. :thumbsup2

Brenda - thanks for the bad booze alert! :upsidedow

When you see a bottle of Irish Manor Irish Cream ... just say no. :lmao:

And the Morimoto sushi event in New York on October 10 is now sold out.

I got an invoice for it though to prove I got in...:thumbsup2

You know, that French regional lunch that cost $135...I tried it too. It was good. But here I am looking at these New York events and thinking how expensive they are. The big NY events that interested me are really not much more than the Epcot ones. Godiva's "Sweet" cost $175. The Morimoto thing was $60 and Alton Brown $35 but that is just a culinary demo - not even sure we will get any actual food out of that - I signed up to see Alton. Then they stick on some taxes and service charges - in NYC taxes are much more than Florida. I wonder which events I will like better - Food Network's or Epcot's.

Maybe that is also why we don't get a lot of the Food Network tie-ins at Epcot - although I will bet we get Cat Cora and Robert Irvine.

Hi all.....my name is Heather and I'm a long time lurker on what seems like's everyone here's reports. I just came across this thread while re-reading Brenda's F&W review from last year and was immediately sucked in!

DH and I will be spending a few days at the F&W fest in October (we will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary......but just a few months late).

Hi Heather, and welcome! Food and Wine is a great time to celebrate an anniversary! :cool1:

stayed up to be online as soon as the Food Network Wine and Food Festival events went on sale - with taxes and handling charges they are REALLY expensive so I signed up for the three I wanted most.

Culinary Demonstration with Alton Brown 10/11
Sushi Rolling Class at Morimoto 10/10
Godiva Chocolatier Presents "Sweet" Hosted by Duff Goldman (this is like a Party for the Senses with desserts only, and they say cheeses too) 10/10

I am so impressed. I admit it, I'm a huge fan of Morimoto. He's amazing, and in a quiet way he can be really funny! Please post about all your experiences--We would love to hear all about your day! :thumbsup2

Alright, if this thread is a pool, I'm dipipng my feet in.

Does that sound wrong? :lmao:

Anyway, here I am. I'm jumping in, and I just wanted to say hello. As you know, I've sort of lurked through your reports, and have been seeing this thread pop on the community board and thinking the whole time, I bet that's a fun crowd.

So can I be part of the fun crowd? ;)

Hey, TarzansKat, welcome!! Great to have you. It's a fun crowd, no doubt about it!:cool1:

PNO4TE-that photo is just beautiful!!! Lucky, lucky, you! :flower3:

Hi Robin, and welcome!! Its lots of fun to read and plan about the F&W events. The hard part is waiting until the list comes out. At least we're all waiting together!

Bendy, I know you commented on my blog (there & here), but I can't find the post. Thanks for the kind words
Chelle, I've started reading your blog. Informative, and fun! The very best kind! :goodvibes

Much better thank you. Made it through the day and it wasn't too bad .. still painful but not like last week.

Brenda, glad you're feeling better. We're thinking of you! :goodvibes

Hoping all the friendies have a great week!! :flower3:

Gosh, I have not posted here in a while, and I miss out on so much!

I see a banana in desperate need of a...er....hammock... ;)

And Brenda has shingles??? I'm sorry to hear that, doll. Here's another hug.

I made a very rudimentary mascot for the F&WF trip. He's hiding in my signature. Yes, Heimlich from "A Bug's Life". And if I had any skill in graphic design, he wouldn't look like that.

I'm not sure where I am going to eat other than Toddy's Place. But visions of V&A and Bistro de Paris keep popping in my head. As well as visions of the California Grill report MickeyNicki did. :cloud9: Since I did California Grill last time, I just want to return to some of my other favorite places! Or at least try the Wave or Sanaa...or better still.....Kouzzina!

I've also planned a trip in 2010 already. I'm going on the DIS podcast cruise next Dec 12-16, 2010.

And I get to hear about Catherine's experiences at the NY festival firsthand. I can't wait to see the inevitable pictures. Woohoo!

I went out to dinner with "the girls" on Saturday, and I had a drink that was labeled as some "X-Rated Martini", due to passion fruit stuff in it. I tasted that and coconut and rum, and it had a creaminess. Maybe there was coconut milk in it, too. It was VERY tasty. As was my spicy avocado chicken, and the ginormous chocolate cake. The cake was a bit dry, but the frosting was good. But it had a slight sour cream flavor to it. Still the best part of the cake, though.

In keeping with the "theme" of this thread I figured I would let you all know what delightful beverages and foods we have had so far:

Open House Punch (Southern Comfort, OJ, Lemonade, lemon juice and 7-up) ~ we keep a pitcher of this in the refrigerator 24/7

Red Sangria ~ see above

White Sangria ~ also see above

Vodka Slush ~ in the freezer, not the fridge (Vodka, Limeade, OJ, 7-Up)

Wine ~ we brought a case...

Beer ~ see above

Shrimp, crab, asparagoose, corn, tomatoes, steaks... not too many exciting foods, but we don't seem to notice. ;)

That's what we're doing this trip re-visiting three favorites (JIKO, FF & Cali Grill) and trying a new one for us - Citrico's.

Ask and you shall receive!

Are there any measurements for the Open House Punch? I love SoCo :goodvibes

Sounds like my kind of vacation! :thumbsup2 I guess I missed where you are vacationing - Outer Banks, maybe?

Hey Brenda, you ok there in Stinktown? Haven't floated away? Just check in and let us know you have your floaties & swim goggles :goodvibes

I'd watch Alton Brown make Kellogg's Pop Tarts. Yum. :rotfl:

Hope everyone has a great week. I have a house full of sick kids. Yikes.
