Jay told me to go ahead and order some Chateau Yaquem for our anniversary ... we've never tried it and have been wanting to for some time ... it's expensive (about $200 for a 375 ml bottle) but that works out to be a lot less than what we would have spent going out of town and dining somewhere uber-expensive.

Briarmom - sounds like you like traveling as much as I do. Egypt has always been on my "want to do" list but somehow I've not made it yet - though I was next door in Israel. The only thing that puts me off going to Egypt now, are all the reports of the extreme harassment that tourists (especially single gals like me) experience from the street vendors. That kind of thing can really ruin your holiday.
Can't wait for your report on Tokyo Disneyland. If you eat anything that's really good, see you can get a recipe

It's true, I love to travel more than anything. We lived in Egypt for a year, so we got to see quite a bit. Yes, the street vendors are PITAs, but really it's not because you're single, it's because you've got money. Do some research, find some GROUPS to go in, and you'll be fine.
Israel is on my list.

Briarmom, I've meant to ask you for two days what Oreo salad is? It sounds right up my alley!

My mother forgot one of the ingredients in her email, so now the 'dish' my kids were looking forward to is not going to be right. We will just make it without the cream cheese.

2 pkg Vanilla Instant Pudding (3 oz pkgs)
1 8 oz pkg cream cheese (softened)
16 oz cool whip
1 1/2 cups milk
pkg oreos

Mix cream cheese, pudding, and milk together well. Fold in cool whip. Crush up MOST of the oreos and mix those in. Leave some whole oreos to put on the top.

Voila!

The 2010 cruise we're taking is on the Disney Magic ... the 2-week transatlantic repositioning cruise that leaves from Barcelona September 18th and ends up in Port Canaveral on October 2nd.

Ports of call include:

Barcelona, Span
Gibralter, UK
Madeira, Portugal
Many days at sea (here's hoping there's no hurricane action)
St. Martin
Tortola
Castaway Cay

We wanted to try for a Med. Cruise or a Baltic Cruise but those are way too pricey. And we like the idea of a transatlantic crossing ... it feels so 19th and early 20th century.

It's not for want of visiting ... it's just been easier and less expensive to stay in the lower 48, know what I mean?

I'll meet you in Barcelona for a drink.
I really want to do the crossing as well, but maybe in the opposite direction.

Jay and I celebrate our 10th anniversary on May 29th and thanks to the economy our plans have been whittled down to the point where we're having a stay-cation in Stinktown. We've been struggling with what to do to mark the day and it finally occured to me that since we honeymooned in Williamsburg we should make ourselves a celebratory Willamsburg tavern dinner!

We've got two different cookbooks from Williamsburg and we think it will make for a memorable fun and romantic evening.

For a hot minute there I thought you were headed my way!

Which cookbooks do you have? I might (insert probably) have fixed everything in any W'burg book you can find... and am up to providing suggestions if they are required.

I am taking a break from the kitchen right now. I got all my baking done yesterday. I did change a few things around from my original menu, but it's basically the same. And a few things I just didn't do today, because I found out we have more family coming over on Wednesday, so I'm saving some of the more gourmet things, like the blue cheese and fig phyllo cups for them.

And I also decided to do a small brunch thing today after church, since we aren't eating dinner until late. For brunch we're having quiche, an apricot-almond ring, and fruit.

I'll post pictures later.

I am sitting here with no menu yet for Easter dinner. It is just Bob and Kristin and me today, so I am thinking something out of the ordinary would be good.

Actually I might make grilled ham steaks with that Bourbon glaze so lovingly posted.

But, other than that I am at a loss.... I think I need to peruse all your menus on here again for ideas!

We are fortunate to have some very good wine shops here in our 'Burg. They all have multiple wine tastings every week for which I am thankful. I have found a few real gems over the years and this past Friday night was no exception.

We tasted (and then subsequently consumed a bottle at their outside-seating wine bar ) Bera Arcese Bianco 2006.

It is just slightly sparkling (Frizzante-style) and very refreshing. (Think dry moscato.) I think it would be lovely for brunch, but I plan to serve it as an aperitif. It is organic, with no added sulfites and is from the Bera Vittorio e Figli winery, a small-production facility located in Canelli, a small commune in the Asti, in the Piedmont region of Italy. At just $16 a bottle I was delighted to find it!

Well, our fruit is all chopped up for tomorrow and my amaretto cream cheese dip is chilling in the refigerator along with the honeybaked ham, prosecco, and crab cakes.

Ooooohh, that is one of the few boozes that Jay and I don't like. We gave our bottle away to my parents last summer (they sucked it down in less than a week ... ).

I am looking forward to doing other things today, like working in my little garden and mowing the lawn for the second time this spring already! The meal will just be the topper for the day and I want it to be simple and special. Something will hit me between the eyes in an hour or so, I am sure!

I didn't think that at all, just sounded like your were a little frustrated trying to decide what to have for dinner tonight DH has already gone out to mow this morning and is now sitting relaxing reading a book. It's gonna be a nice relaxing day here

ambrosia is done
rolls are sitting out to rise
strawberry soup just needs the cream added to it

Now all that's left to do is go out to the garden for some rosemary for the lamb and make the asparagoose bundles. Of course then finish cleaning
