Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

Happy belated birthday Elin! Sounds like you had a great celebration! The wine tasting sounded fabulous!

Allright, getting ready to pack up the computer and go to bed. We plan to hit the road VERY early (4am :scared1:) We'll see if we actually get out of here that early.

Next post will be from BCV :cool1:

Hope you're having a great trip:goodvibes

Guest X doesn't even want to try afternoon tea. How many women do you know who don't want to partake in afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian??? :scared1::scared1::scared1:

Auntie Crohn and Uncle Bubba were even willing to pay for the whole thing but no dice. :sad2:

I'm not sure I can take a trip to WDW and bypass afternoon tea. :rotfl2:

I can't imagine not wanting to go to tea! I'll be trying it for the first time in August and can't wait:thumbsup2

And sorry to hear your guests are making the planning crazy for you. If they want to spend time with you then you would think some nice meals would be the way to go. Touring the parks is not always exactly relaxing. Hopefully they'll come around -- well before you have to book your ADRs that is!

I made our ADR's yesterday for our first F&W weekend. We are taking a much lighter approach to dining this time. This time we are leaving ourselves with an empty night so we can just enjoy nothing but the food booths at Epcot. In years past we always jammed ourselves up with ADR's every night AND did the booths during the day. Way too much food so we're taking a new approach. I think we've got another week to wait to book trip #2 and then the end of the month we can do trip #3. I'll probably revert to my old ways for the other trips and if we like the more relaxed dining from the first trip I can cancel dining on the other trips later on.

Sounds like a great approach. :thumbsup2 I fear that I am going to end up booking too much and I want to try and enjoy the booths a bit more this year. I may try and leave a night or 2 open as well.

Here's our line up so far.

Monday, Sept 28, Grand Floridian Cafe Breakfast (I think 1000am)

Tuesday, Sept 29, The Captain's Grille Dinner

Wednesday, Sept 30, The Crystal Palace - the only place I could get around the MK area for our party size, and we're doing lunch

Thursday, Oct 1, Tea at the GF

Friday, Oct 2, Sci Fi Dine In Lunch

Saturday, Oct 3, Brown Derby Dinner

Sunday, Oct 4, Chef Mickey's Late Breakfast before we leave

Bendy, have you been to GF Cafe and Captain's Grille before? I thought I might have read favorable reviews form you, but I can't remember.

I've got my list ready...

The Turf Club (L)
Flying Fish (D)
California Grill (D)
Mama Melrose (L)
Citricos (D)
Liberty tree Tavern (L)
JIKO (D)
Grand Floridian Café (B)

Right now our ADRS are:
Tutto Italia
Tusker house
Ohana
Kona
Crystal Palace (MNSSHP)
leCellier
Grand Floridan Cafe (B)
I'm leaving one day open for F&W and will switch a dinner for a lunch if the dessert party for Wishes becomes an option in September. I read Jack's review on allears.net and it looks delicious. :goodvibes

:sad1::sad1::sad1:

No one's ever here when I'm posting anymore.

Oh well ... I'll share my planned ADR list with everyone ... keep in mind I can't make any reservations until Thursday and obviously can't make F&W ressies until next month. But this is my ideal! :rotfl2:

October 14th ... the un-ADR day: lunch at Beaches and Cream; dinner at Kimonos or the Kona Sushi Bar; dessert around the World Showcase.

October 15th ... breakfast in the room courtesy of Boulangerie Patissiere. Snacking around the World Showcase for second breakfast and lunch; dinner at Citricos or the F&W dinner at Flying Fish

October 16th ... breakfast at the Boardwalk Bakery and dinner at Blue Zoo ... we think.

October 17th ... breakfast at the Grand Floridian Cafe; F&W pairing at Tutto Italia; dinner at Narcoossee's or Flying Fish depending on how events pan out.

October 18th ... breakfast at Fresh ... late lunch snack at Sci-Fi with X & Y ... dinner at V&A!!!

October 19th ... breakfast at Koma with X&Y ... dinner at Il Mulino (for either two or four depending on how things work out). Beaches & Cream for the Kitchen Sink???

October 20th ... breakfast at Cape May ... and then hold on to the contents of your stomachs because it's Lord of the Drinks staring Bendy & Jay ... Epcot will never be the same. Lunch at Chefs for two ... how could I forget??? Dinner is likely to be us and a group of cruise friends sweeping the seas and the taps clean at the Yorkshire Fishie & Chippie place.

October 21st ... breakfast in the room ... F&W pairing in Mexico ... late dinner at Raglan Road per X&Y's request.

October 22nd ... breakfast at Boma with X&Y .... surprise dinner at CA Grill with X&Y (shhhh, don't tell them 'cause they don't know that's where we're taking them).

October 23rd .... freedom, horrible freedom ... breakfast? We dunno. Lunch? We're not sure. Dinner ... so many choices. Do we try the Alan Wong thing at the Welcome Center? Jay says no and that would only cover us for lunch (and expensive lunch at that). Do we have afternoon tea? Probably not. Dinner at Jiko? Or dinner at Bistro? I NEED HELP HERE, PEOPLE!!!

:lmao::rotfl2::laughing:

Everyone's plans sound great!

Brenda, I am thinking of doing the food and wine pairing in Mexico too -- that's the only one that will work out when I am there.

For your last night I would pick Jiko. Of course I've never been to Bistro and Jiko is my favorite restaurant on property so I'm slightly biased. I'll be eating there in August and October:thumbsup2

Here's my list so far:
Jiko
California Grill
The Wave
Flying Fish
Boma breakfast
Kona breakfast
Tutto lunch
Coral Reef lunch (not sure about this one but the latest lunch menu I saw sounds pretty good -- anyone have any recent experiences here?)

Oh, and we just added the dessert party at the Magic Kingdom to our August trip so I'll be there on the 19th. I'm so excited:cool1: And I think I'm going to need an extra stomach for this trip!:lmao:

Plans, plans, it's a fall of plans!
I think we have everything set for the our 3 days with DD. Universal may never be the same.
I made reservations at Boma for Sunday night. She'll like it. Stay tuned. Boyfriend of about 10 months says he wants to talk to her Dad when we're there. I think it's sweet...I'm a little touched they still do that these days. I'll let you guys know if it turns out to be football or something more special. :goodvibes

I have felt crummy for the past couple of months. Went back to Dr. tests again...long story short they should have treated me 6 weeks ago. They were apologetic, I was just glad to finally have an answer. I'm now on Cipro and I wouldn't wish that stuff on my worst enemy. Two more days to go, and I'll be done with it. So, here's hoping I'm on the mend. :thumbsup2

We have about a trip a month scheduled through Dec, so there is no time to be sick.

Always love to hear what's new with the friendies. We'll all celebrate together when the F&W schedule finally arrives!:yay::yay::yay:

Sounds like you might have some good news to share soon :goodvibes

And hope you're feeling better soon too:)

Thanks for the ideas and thanks for letting me vent my continued automotive frustrations. I have a feeling I'm going to have an new car by the end of the week.

The difference between what I want and what we can afford right now is rather large ... I wanted a Lexus IS 250 or an Infinity G37 but with all the bonus drop-off we've experienced in our jobs there isn't a lot of extra cash to play with. So I'm considering a Honda CRV or maybe a Nissan Altima. I spend a lot of time in my car - between 300 and 350 miles per week so I need something with long-term reliability and that's also somewhat comfortable to spend a lot of time in.

I have a Honda CRV now and love it (it's a 2007). I also had the older model before this one. I can't recall any major mechanical problems I had with either one. I have found Hondas to be very reliable -- more reliable than any other car I've ever owned. Only think is I'm guessing the CRV would not be as good on gas as the Altima. Sorry you're having so much trouble with your car and good luck with your decision to purchase a new one:)

Definitely more distant ... yes indeedy. I have a feeling the new wife really doesn't like us too much ... or really, me. I seem to do everything wrong when I'm around her. :confused3

Let her be a total pill. You did what you could.

Anyhoo ... they must want to go because they've purchased their non-refundable airfare and park tickets ... they just don't want to spend all their time with us. And that's OK because Jay and I are loners at heart ... we have brief bursts of sociability followed by long hermit-like periods of surliness. :rotfl2:

Heh. If I could carry my house around with me on my back like a hermit crab, I would. ;)

:sad1::sad1::sad1:

No one's ever here when I'm posting anymore.

I'm just late to the party.

Oh well ... I'll share my planned ADR list with everyone ... keep in mind I can't make any reservations until Thursday and obviously can't make F&W ressies until next month. But this is my ideal! :rotfl2:

I haven't planned to make any ADRs yet, and I arrive on the same day as you guys.

October 14th ... the un-ADR day: lunch at Beaches and Cream; dinner at Kimonos or the Kona Sushi Bar; dessert around the World Showcase.

My plan was to use that day as the Nosh Around the World day. I planned to hit the kiosks hard.

October 15th ... breakfast in the room courtesy of Boulangerie Patissiere. Snacking around the World Showcase for second breakfast and lunch; dinner at Citricos or the F&W dinner at Flying Fish

Hmm, I never thought of stocking up breakfast from the shops. Doesn't it get stale? My only plan is the attempt at the Flying Fish festival event. I don't have a backup plan. Maybe more noshing.

October 16th ... breakfast at the Boardwalk Bakery and dinner at Blue Zoo ... we think.

I think I'm having lunch with Plankton, but I'm not sure what he's serving. And dinner at Todd's Place.

October 17th ... breakfast at the Grand Floridian Cafe; F&W pairing at Tutto Italia; dinner at Narcoossee's or Flying Fish depending on how events pan out.

I'm doing dinner at Bistro de Paris and cake later for some gal's birthday. I might meet up with a DIS person earlier this day if the planets align.

October 18th ... breakfast at Fresh ... late lunch snack at Sci-Fi with X & Y ... dinner at V&A!!!

Woohoo, V&A! Gotta get on the horn for that one.

October 19th ... breakfast at Koma with X&Y ... dinner at Il Mulino (for either two or four depending on how things work out). Beaches & Cream for the Kitchen Sink???

I leave that day, so I might do more kiosk noshing. LOL

:lmao::rotfl2::laughing:

Nice plethora of choices for the remainder! If the Bistro's any good, I'll let you know on your birthday. ;)

Hi gang,

I’m finally caught up but never seem to have time to visit these boards much. I think I'm spending too much time on the Adam Lambert fan sites - but after going to hear him live last week and meeting him at the barricades, I'm more of a fantard than ever. If any of you live close to the American Idol concert cities, I highly recommend going. The show is so much fun and Adam is clearly on the way to becoming a major superstar.

So much going on, including a desperate race to finish my lecture’s, PowerPoint presentations, and get the sample music burned to CDs before I leave on my first cruise (as an Enrichment and Destination speaker) in a month. I’ve finished 4 presentations and have 5 more to go. As soon as my mother's 80th birthday party is over (which is taking a lot of prep time, because not only will I be playing a viola sonata but I’m organizing a bunch of musician friends to perform as well), then I think I'll be working 24 hours a day on these talks. I also need to figure out all the transfers from airports to piers, still need to get RideMax to do our Disney itinerary, and get the F & W Festival events sorted.

Bendy, thanks for letting us know the date that Disney will finally be releasing the information. Do think the price for PFTS will be about $135 - as the Orlando newspaper says? I followed your tip of going online and seeing if the times I want for ADRs will open up. I've now switched a couple of my rezzies around and there may be more to come, depending on which F & W events we’re doing.

One of the things with the free dining plan is that you want to use up all your credits so there's no such thing as going without dinner ! I see you have dinners booked following a day of sampling food at the F & W Festival. In your experience, are you actually hungry after a day of sampling?

How did the story with your car turn out? Your nephew's behavior is definitely odd, considering you're paying for education. It's not like you want to hang out with them all the time. What's the point of them coming if they don't even want to share the occasional meal with you? If it were me, and my nephew, I would part-jokingly asked the next time we spoke, “I get this funny feeling that you and your wife are trying to avoid us at all costs during the Disney World vacation. Is this just my vivid imagination or would you guys prefer not to hang out with us?”

Thank you all for your good thoughts... I have retired my ex boyfrield voo doo doll for the time being...
I think that everyone goes on to live happily ever after and I'm still stuck in the kitchen feeding lucifer... I can't get the darned slipper on my foot cause of flat feet and the only mice I'm friends with cost me thousands of $$$ every year to visit...

I think you may look back and be grateful that you dodged a bullet. There isn't one ex that I would want to be back with and when I think of myself being tied to any of them, I thank my lucky stars that I “dodged the bullet”, :scared:.

And as for that woman in the article who was quoted as saying "it's such a small thing..." that's how freedom gets whittled away. It rarely disappears in big chunks ... it's a slow and subtle disintegration. Today you can't have sprinkles tomorrow you can't have foie gras ... oh wait ... that's already happened!!! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

One of Canada's top writers’, nearing the end of his life, he gave an interesting speech in which he compared life when he was young to today. He said it’s shocking how intrusive the government has become in our lives (especially in Canada). Yes, many of the laws are for our own good, whether it's mandatory seatbelts, helmets, no jaywalking, no trans fats - but there are just so MANY of them, regulating every part of our lives. He said that young people today don't even realize how much of their freedom is gone these days – especially in the name of keeping us “safe” whether from ourselves or “terrorists” and his whole speech was about trying to make us aware of just what you said ……how freedom gets whittled away."

Hey all foodies and boozies! I'm right in the thick of this (stupid and upsetting) move and I'm way behind.

Or France!:woohoo:

We're going to do an 'Au Revoir' trip to Disneyland Paris next week and finally stay at the Disneyland Hotel. I guess that's something.:goodvibes

Miss you all!!

OK, I clearly missed something here. When are you leaving and where are you going after Europe? Let us know how the food is in Paris Disney… and remember the recipes IF they happen to give any out!

I have a 2008 CRV and love it!!!!!:thumbsup2

The only issue I had with the CRV (I drove it at the end of May) is that the engine seems pretty puny given the overall weight of the vehicle. Since I spend so much time on the highway I guess I'm used to putting the pedal to the floor ... the CRV seemed clunky ... heavy ... slow to me. Of course, my passat is a 4-cylinder turbo so I'm sure that the CRV seems like a turtle compared to that.

So, you CRV owners ... do you have issues with acceleration or losing power while climbing hills? And are you bothered by the noise of the engine while driving? It also struck me as being a rather loud ride compared with my car (and the V-6 highlander I drove on Saturday).

Thanks for any insight you can provide!

Sorry I'm never on the boards past 9 p.m. anymore, I'm keeping toddler hours in my old age! :rotfl:

All your plans sound droll-worthy, that's for sure. Maybe it's good that you don't have a plan for the 23rd--you might be tired of eating by then......
nah.

:rotfl2:

We never get tired of eating!

I have felt crummy for the past couple of months. Went back to Dr. tests again...long story short they should have treated me 6 weeks ago. We have about a trip a month scheduled through Dec, so there is no time to be sick.

Sorry you've been under the weather! Hope all is well soon! :goodvibes

I haven't caught up yet, but I hope everyone is well (and Bendy's car is fixed --is there a crossed fingers smilie?)

Having a great time! It's hot, but hasn't been horrible. Today was worse because we never got a good rain to cool it down, so it was very muggy.

After all of my trips, I did have a first today! We ended up having lunch at Tony's Town Square. I'll write it up later, but I will say we were happy :goodvibes Then we had our favorite Brown Derby for dinner tonight. Excellent as always and we got a neat little thing for our anniversary :cool1:

I'm trying to post pics as I go on the blog. I also posted a funny video on there tonight. If you like Weird Al and/or the Jungle Cruise -- I love Jungle Cruise and think Weird Al is weirdly likeable :rolleyes1 -- check it out it's called Skipper Dan

It's time to soak my sore body in the hot tub or just fall into bed. Talk to y'all later :goodvibes

I'm glad you've having a good time! It'll be interesting to see how Tony's was! I have to get over to your blog sometime today.

Ugh, don't you hate having to undertake a car payment when you've been without one for a while? That said, I really love my Nissan Maxima! I have had three of them (two 1986's, which ran beyond 180,000) and my current 2007. No major repairs with any of them until the alternator goes out at about 130,000. V6 engine has plenty of get up and go. These are the cars that I put 2,000 miles a month on sometimes for work and still no problems.

I was just thinking the other day that I will probably end up being one of those odd people who will only drive one make of car till I'm old....but I do love my car! Drive one and compare it to the Altima and see what you think.

Good morning, friendies! I have read everything and it seems you all are due: kudos for ADR planning, hugs for tough spots in life and luck for works in progress. I am in the midst of summer composition and am swamped with teaching and then work on said student compositions in the evening. So, even though I am not commenting, please know that I am reading along. Hope you all have great days! :goodvibes

Mom????

(is her name Claire?)

:rotfl2: nope, not Claire... but here is something she wrote today. I think you will see the resemblance... :goodvibes

"I found a watch that was a gift from an ex under an umbrella that belonged to another ex in a corner of my bedroom today. Apparently, I have discovered the geographical location where relationships come to die. I'm like Magellan."

You and my DH would get along great.....he's got an entire Weird Al playlist on his iPod and Jungle Cruise is his favorite ride. I need to show him that link.....he would really like it. Glad you're having fun!

My DH & DD are the big Weird Al fans, I think he's funny but they love him. As for JC, I had friends on the College Program that were skippers, so I fell in love with it back then and I still love it. Silly but I love it

POP TARTS! POP TARTS! POP TARTS!!! :thumbsup2

I haven't had pop tarts in years ... :cloud9:

The more I think about it the more I think I've gotta work in Afternoon Tea on this trip. WE MUST HAVE IT!!!

And I wish I could think of something for our last night's dinner that we both really want to do. Jay wants Jiko and I want Bistro ... so unless we compromise and eat at Blue Zoo's bar I think I'll just suck it up and go to Jiko. That may be one of his all-time favs on property and he's always such a good sport about everything that I hate to not get him an ADR where he'd like to go...ya know what I mean?

You must have Tea this trip, even if I have to drive down to have it with you ;)
Can't help with the Bistro/Jiko battle. Love Jiko and we cancelled Bistro (did choose it for our anniversary dinner) because we'll be on the cruise. I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong either way :thumbsup2
Sorry about the chromosomes :sad2: Family drives me nuts :headache: Maybe they're just worried about the money and don't want to say that :goodvibes
As for cars, DH had Accuras & Infinitiy's for the last 12 years and has loved every single one of them! Make sure to check out Accura if you're looking at the Hondas.....the Accuras can come out cheaper sometimes. He had the MDX, very nice but bigger than he needed once we stopped carrying soccer teams around all the time. He turned the MDX in off lease a few months ago and got the new TSX and LOVES it!

time to get more coffee and see if I can find a pop tart because I have a strange craving for one now :rolleyes1

Hey Everyone - we can make our ADR's this Saturday!:banana::banana:

Here is what we are thinking -

October 15th ... Fly over night so we don't miss a minute of vacation - eat bad LAX food!

October 16th ... Breakfast at Kamazoom or what ever it will be called by Cat Cora (and no Jason, she wont be there so shushie!:rotfl:) or Capt. Grille then Munch around the world -dinner at Flying Fish

October 17th ... Dinner - PFTS w/ up sell for bigger bar and cheese! :lovestruc

October 18th ... Brown Derby lunch or more food booths and then V&A!:cloud9:

October 19th ... Jiko Dinner and late to Magic Kingdom!!
October 20th ... Sanaa lunch, Flying Fish Dinner

October 21st ... F&W pairing in Mexico ... Dinner depending on what we get at Mexico - food booths

October 22nd ... Wave lunch, drink around the monorail, dinner we "stumble on to something"!

October 23rd .... We have nothing -

October 24th .. PFTS w/ upgrade if the 1st week is worth it!:cheer2:

Brenda, have you considered a used car? Right now, the dealerships are so desperate you might be able to find a 2006 or 2007 version of what you want that is in the same price range as a new CRV or Altima. Or look at someplace like CarMax....they get a lot of program cars turned back into them that are the current model year, but considered "used" because they were driven for a short period of time, and there is a price drop because of it.

:rotfl2: nope, not Claire... but here is something she wrote today. I think you will see the resemblance... :goodvibes

A Homer-esque compromise would be to dine at Bistro, but occassionally you would blurt out wild animal sounds, so Jay would feel like he was dining in the AKL. It's just a thought....

Hi Brenda,
I've been lurking for a while, Hi all! :wave2: Have been enjoying all the WDW and other dining plans, plus all the other assorted craziness.

My SIL has a CRV and is happy with it. But I have no real helpful info to add on that count.

I do recommend keeping the Toyota in consideration, if the Highlander fits your needs. My DH's '92 truck has reached over 486,000 miles!! :scared1: He used to have a +100mi/day round trip commute, and just kept it up with regular maintenance and repairs. We're really hoping it holds on until the 500k mark, just for the WOW factor. ;)

His is not the highest mileage around here, the local Toyota dealership keeps up with several super-high mileage vehicles. DMIL was on their list with a +350k mi Corolla, until a deer totalled it a couple years ago! :scared:

And I recently bought my aunt's Avalon (honestly, a little old lady only drove it to church and doctor visits! :lmao:). It's 6 cylinders have no lack of pick up, and keep a steady climb up our small mountains around here. So we decided that low-mileage 11-yr-old car had a better long term potential than my 10-yr-old Grand Am with 103k miles already!

Good luck with your selection! :hippie:

The only issue I had with the CRV (I drove it at the end of May) is that the engine seems pretty puny given the overall weight of the vehicle. Since I spend so much time on the highway I guess I'm used to putting the pedal to the floor ... the CRV seemed clunky ... heavy ... slow to me. Of course, my passat is a 4-cylinder turbo so I'm sure that the CRV seems like a turtle compared to that.

I currently drive a CRV (long story, wife's car, but I digress). It's a 2001 with over 160K on it, and is doing well (I do maintain regular maintenance). Highway ride is great, and it cruises well (under 80 mph generally speaking). The upper end acceleration is not world class, and you do lose power on longer mountain hills (over 1 mile), but it rides well in normal driving conditions, of which I drive probably 80% highway miles. I currently am putting over 400 miles per week on it during my normal commute.
Being an older model CRV, I do at times notice the road/engine noise, and it is certainly louder than most cars or SUV's on the market now. Still, it rides well for a small SUV.

If you have any specific Q's, I'll be happy to try to answer them.

Hey, everyone. Even if I don't comment, I just wanted to let you know I'm reading along as well. And I'm loving all the ADR discussion! It makes me hungry. And long for my trip. Which is coming up soon. I have no advice, just one word.

Yum. :thumbsup2

As far as the car discussion, I've always wanted a CRV. I'm hoping that will be my next car. My husband favors Nissans and really loves his Sentra. His mother also typically drives Nissans, and she had a Maxima that they beat into the ground. They never take care of their cars, I'm shocked at how long they last. Knowing that you'd be more inclined to keep it up, I'd say you can't really go wrong with either, but test drive them and see what feels right to you. :thumbsup2

Hey Friendies :)
On the topic of cars..i have a Nissan Altima and i just love it! Its the SE from 2005 and it has ZIP and a half...i did just have to replace the battery but that was over 5 years of the original working just fine..not bad!

The passed appetizers were incredible as well!! The star there was a blue cheese/portobello crostini and the japanese beef tataki on a wonton skin...YUM!! i better be able to eat at my wedding!!!
