Belly Up to the Bar With Bendy and Her Friendies!!! Button Pics & New Thread Started!

Elin, here is our review of Sci-Fi from October 2007. You can skip over the first half which is just us playing with Plankton and a poor hapless stranger in the ride queue at the Aerosmith coaster.

Stick with burgers, fries, and shakes and you'll have a fine time there ... it's totally cheesy but that's what makes it fun.

Sci-Fi

Thank you!! I was just looking through ALL the TRs out there to find yours so I could read your review. :teeth:

Hi friendies,

I am happy to report a mostly successful experience with the online ADR tool this morning! :thumbsup2

First of all it gives you a one hour advantage over calling in. You're able to log in at 6am vs. calling at 7am ET. In fact I logged in a bit before 6 by the time on my computer and it let me in and recognized my ADR window.

The search functionality seems fairly smart- it recognized misspellings and asked if I meant the correctly spelled version. I just put in tea and it knew I meant the Garden View Tea at Grand Floridian.

You enter your party size and desired time as well as a specific date or you can do a range of up to 5 days. It "thinks" about your request and comes back with either that exact option or some alternate times (some of my requests I got for the exact times others I had to vary by 5-30 min) or in the case of no openings (Le Cellier and California Grill) it makes alternate suggestions. The alternate suggestion tool is not very "smart." I think it just suggests whatever is open as opposed to trying to match type of cuisine, location or "level" of dining.

Once you book it you put it in your "cart." You can put up to 10 ADRs in your cart at a time and then it makes you check out. Your selections are held for up to a two hour planning session before you have to check out or lose them.

When you put an ADR in your cart you can enter any dietary restrictions as well as request a high chair or booster seat. Once you've checked out, you then have an opportunity to add any celebrations to the reservation (you can add more than one). Your celebration options are: anniversary, birthday, engagement, 1st visit, honeymoon, personal triumph/other, reunion, and wedding.

When you're all done the tool will let you email the reservation details to any email address(es) you'd like, which I think is cool, particularly when going in a group.

Also, your ADRs and confirmation #'s and celebration details are always stored in the My Disney Vacation section of the website so us obsessive compulsives can check on them anytime!

So all in all, I'd give online ADR planning a :thumbsup2

WOW. Angela I'm so sorry that your ADR experience was so craptacular.

I would just suggest that you keep trying to tweak things using the on-line system (when it works) to see if you can nab some better times. I've read some posts on the restaurant board that folks have had some success trying that. And we do know that people cancel ADRs evey day so you could have some luck ... I will keep my fingers crossed for you and your sister. :thumbsup2

Your son looks just like my husband did at that age! Jay has naturally curly hair, too! :goodvibes

That's a great idea Bendy. I had been planning to check the ADR translation section on these boards - but it's a much better idea to check online. You really do come up with some brilliant suggestions! For those going in October - I'm sure once the free dining is over it's going to be easy to get ADRs.

I remember your review of the Irvine lunch and you being seated by the potted palms. It had me gasping for laughter and I remember sending that review to a few friends because it was so funny. I didn't know the location was the Welcome Center, but I've been well and truly warned. So I guess it's between PFTS and Sweet Sundays. The PFTS night is when I managed to snag a reservation for Citrico's, so I'd have to see about changing that to another night & cancelling one of the other TS. There's so much food I want to try in that week - I'm going to need 2 stomachs. :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

I'll bet Jay had the same experience growing up as my son. When you have natural curls, iit's just irresistible for every stranger to come up and pat your hair and say: "OMG, those curls are too adorable!" I always wished I had natural curls and permed my hair for years. Jay's hair looks fairly straight now. Is it because it's cut short or did he lose the curls?

OK, friendies... I just showed Bob a list of TS restaurants with places circled that I thought he would like for the October trip. Imagine my surprise when he said, "What about this Sci-Fi Dine In Place?"

Never in a million years would I have thought he would like that place! He said it combines two of his favorite things: 50s sci-fi flicks and the drive-in. Who wouldda thunk it?!!?!

So... now I need to know about it since I have never researched it before. I know some of you have gone. Anyone have any input? Any food porn?

Personally, I've had good experiences at Sci-Fi and have booked another ADR there. I like it is a lunch stop at DH - because the counter service choices are so abysmal. The milkshakes are great, I really like the Reuben sandwich (I'm a total Reuben sandwich nut) and the BLT soup is pretty good too. Everyone raves about the chocolate and peanut butter cake - and I plan to try it in September. So only good things about the Sci-Fi from me.

Thanks so much for posting this info. It would be nice if Disney would give us this information before we have to book our ADRs. And make no mistake - if you're going while it's still free dining, you BETTER get your ADRs the very day your window opens. I waited until noon (to be honest I slept until noon :guilty:), to call up yesterday - the online reservations were down right after I started mine. I knew things book out fast, but we're going in low season ferchrissakes, and I surely didn't expect I couldn't get any of my times, a few hours after the lines opened. :sad1: Chefs de France was already booked the entire day of Sat. September 26, so had to switch that one to Monday and the only time availableon Monday was noon! I really wanted dinner   I then asked for Citrico's for the 26th instead, and the only time I could get was 5. 30 pm *ACK*!!! :scared1: That's usually when I'm finishing lunch.
Of course, it was the opposite situation when I was trying to book Kona for 6 pm (because we want to go over there directly after AK closes at 5 PM), because then, earliest time I could get was 8 p.m. :headache:
The CM could tell I was in shock and told me that by 7 AM every morning they have 500 people queued up on the phones. I guess every man and his hound dog is coming during free dining . Then right after that I heard the news about Michael Jackson and it took me the rest of the day to recover from both those experiences.

The wedding pic was TOO cute and I'm loving the food porn. This is my 4th day of Chinese take-out leftovers. JUst not in the mood to spend much time in the kitchen lately.
I didn't do the wedding thing though I did the parent thing :rolleyes1 One of my favourite memories is taking my son to his first WDW visit at age 2 1/2. Those were the days of BIG hair, :lmao:

DisneyWorld1990.jpg

OMG that is a cute pic! I've seen you over on the AI boards (you're the smart one) and it's nice to put a face (albeit 20 yrs ago) to the name!

I hope this morning finds you feeling better too, Brenda. I also am hoping there is an end in sight for your discomfort!

travelmel - love the cartoon! :goodvibes

And I am IN for a Boozing With Bendy night!

Yes, One RSVP!

hey, the twin calls most of the dining shots ... I just pay the bills.

Um... I'm not sure how this conversation started but this line is pretty funny as a stand alone! :rotfl:

Are you sure he just doesn't want to neck with you in the back of a car at a drive in movie???:rolleyes1

For what it's worth I'd keep dinner at Citricos and then do Sweet Sundays the next morning, but that's just me. I do think the tentative $80 per person pricetag for Sweet Sundays is pushing the limit of what the event is worth, but I think you'd like it because of the demo portion of the event and the recipes that they usually provide.

I'll bet Jay had the same experience growing up as my son. Jay keeps his hair cut short ... it doesn't grow longer, it grows sidways. I would have killed for curly hair when I was younger (and now) because mine is bone straight ... flat, straight, thin, and dull - that's my hair. I used to perm mine a lot too, but I haven't for a long time.

Christine ... thanks for the info about your on-line booking experience. I'm glad it worked so well for you. Sadly we're in the DVC group so we're stuck making the phone call at 6AM CST next month. We're not even planning any kind of ADR for our first day so I can't really use the system until we're past the 90+10 date ... for tweakage once F&W is booked, most likely.

I'm glad to hear it's been more positive for most people than not. :goodvibes

Here is the current listing I have for friendies who want me to order buttons for them; if I've missed anyone or have the quantity wrong please let me know. I'd like to get an order placed within the next few weeks to allow time for any snafus.

The more I order the less the price per button ... If I order 50 it looks like it will work out to about $2.50 per button, but I've not shopped around too much.

I can't wait to see everyone wearing them! :thumbsup2

That is super to hear as I have been eyeing that one and thought about going against the recommendations here and elsewhere to stick to the burgers. I think the BLT soup and all the desserts sound good too. My husband cannot believe that I am talking about ordering a milkshake for lunch. Silly man! We don't all need draught beer. :rotfl2:

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! :lmao:

Maybe so! But since we are celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary next month I kind of doubt it. I don't remember the last time we necked! And I am not certain we remember how! :rotfl2:

Well, we have returned from our recon trip to the brand new Chicago Whole Foods! :thumbsup2 It was a success, and we plan to return in the near future. We didn't buy very much since it was a really hot day and we had a long drive home. Next time, we'll bring a cooler with ice. We noticed that many people in the parking garage were filling up coolers - we must not have been the only ones who made a long pilgrimage that day to the 3rd largest Whole Foods. The size of the store & number of items available was truly amazing. We had lunch there, too, which was very good! :goodvibes We wanted to take pictures, but we were stopped by someone who said that we couldn't. :sad1: So, Jordan took out her Flip camera and took stealth video instead! LOL! :rotfl: Anyway, if you're interested, here's a link to our totally touristy video compilation on YouTube... :lmao:

Awesome! I'm so jealous that you guys have such a monster Whole Foods within driving distance (even though it is a long haul) ... although, now that I think about it it's probably better for our vacation fund if we don't have one too close.

Love the picture! Your daughter is starting to look like such a young lady ... not a little girl anymore.

I thought my brain had turned to mush when I got back on here this morning, as I could have sworn your post last night said you had 36 orders. :upsidedow Luckily I read Michelle's and Hedy's requests and my world righted itself. ;)

Debbie brings that count up to 44 and I guess I might as well jump in here and order 10 of them. I have heard a group of my friends are planning to crash our F&W trip this year again. The again part is a whole 'nother story...
