Belly Button Piercings?

I would really like to get one...but I have about 10 more "vanity" pounds to lose before I do. I'm probably too old for it (37) - but who cares. I can just imagine my 13 year old DS ..."OMG my MOM has a BELLY RING!!!"

I would rather my teenager have that done than a permament tatoo or more noticeable piercing.

::yes::
I took my DD to have hers done when she was 17 - she's now 18.5 yrs. old. We talked about it for over a year before my DH and I agreed to let her have it done.

It did hurt, her - and she got pretty woozy - but she bounced right back!! She's never had any problems, complications or infections from the piercing.

Here's my horror story.

I got mine pierced last February over winter break. I cleaned it twice a day, followed the care instructions, and it healed completely. At prom I was wearing a dangling belly button piercing, one with little stars, which I LOVED! My boyfriend at the time picked me up and the stars wound up getting caught on something.

The piercing didn't rip out completely, but it bled for awhile.

It never fully healed after that. This year at college my friend dowonstairs threw me over his shoulders just fooling around and the stars got caught on his shirt. When he put me down, the piercing stretched the hole even more.

This happened a few more times throughout the year. Finally after a few months without me even realizing, the piercing migrated downward. I had about half a centimeter between the ball of the barbell and my belly button. If I didn't take it out, my body would've continued to reject the piercing and it would've gone right through the skin.

It's already started to close up, but the scar is pretty gross, going the whole length that the piercing migrated. If I had to do it all over again, I never would get it pierced. I seriously look like I have two belly buttons :( The worst part is that I took such good care of it, I always cleaned it and didn't change it until the piercer told me to (I went back to the Tattoo shop to have him look at it).

Oh well, my fault I guess. It's a risk you take when you get pierced. The migrating can happen even if you don't get the piercing ripped out, sometimes bodies just reject the piercings.

My oldest has her belly button pierced. It was a case of she was going to do it the minute she turned 18, so, in order to have control over where it was done and how she took care of it, I took her at 17. She's never had a problem with it.

I think they're cute, my sister's had one for over 10 years and hasn't had any problems with it. I never got one because I'm a big ole chicken.

I'd love to get a tattoo but the whole chicken thing comes into play again, I just don't like pain. ;)

I have 2 belly button rings (one in the top and one in the bottom) and have never had any trouble w/ either of them. My sister on the other hand had her body reject the first one she got b/c the piercer wasn't very knowledgeable and made the piercing way to small, it was maybe a quarter of a centimeter and grew out quickly. She had it done again though and was fine. Be very careful about who you have do the piercing if you decide to get one.

I used to have one - once upon a time - and then I had my first baby, and my waist line seemed to disappeared:teleport: . I felt very, very, sexy when I had it, and I got a lot of stares from a lot of men because when I got mine, they were a new thing:flower1: .

My husband tells me I should put it back in, but my waist is nothing like it used to be and it would look pretty poor. But God Bless my DH for thinking I still have what it takes to wear one:love:.

I don't like them. I do find other piercings attractive though.

DD28 had hers done last year to make good on a bet she made with her choirs ("If both Concert Choir and Show Choir come in first place at the competition, I'll pierce my bellybutton!!!!!").

Well, it was OK for almost a year, then started to reject (it was pushing her bellybutton outward) so she had to remove it. I thought it looked cute on her!

I'm getting mine pierced!!!! I'm so excited!!! ::yes:: I have wanted one for a few years, but like BriarfoxinWA, I had some vanity pounds to lose....in my case it was 50 vanity pounds. I have hit my goal, and I am doing it!!!

I got one last august..it was my big 30 bday present to myself.

I really like it, people never really see it unless I am swimming. But I like it and that is all that matters.

As far as the pain, I didnt think it really hurt at the time I got it done. But the next few days afterwards it hurt anytime I bent over, sat down, etc.

I have to agree that atleast it is not pernmanent like a tatoo.

When it comes to pain I think it depends on the person. I know a lot of people have said that it barely hurts, and the pain for the ears was probably worse. When my sister got it done, she said it was nothing. But when I got it done, it hurt a lot! It was only for about 3 seconds though, and it was worth it!

I know some people think they're trashy and slutty looking but why? It's not like they're saying oh "come have sex with me" or something. Maybe some girls that dress trashy have a bellybutton ring, and it's the clothes that make them look that way, not the ring. Other than that, I think they look cute if you have the body to show it off in the summer.

I like them but have to say some of the jewlery that goes in them is a little unatractive. I asked my DW if she wanted to get one but she doesn't think her tummy looks good enough for one after having 3 kids I say she is crazy it looks just fine. She is still trying to decide on some tatoos though. I have 5 earings and plan on 1 more and a couple more tatoos I currently have 4 all of mine are cartoon critters.

So true gymnasticsmom!!

My 13 daughter has one, she loves it and hasn't had any problems, she will have it a year in May. Don't bother me about her age, I heard it ALL from my mother!!:rolleyes1
