For anyone diagnosed with this,Im wondering if you had severe pain on the affected side. I was diagnosed ten days ago and after an overnight hospital stay because they thoguht I had a stroke, I got the diagnosis of Bells palsy. My eye is droopy and my mouth is crooked on one side.
I could deal with that. What I cant deal with is the intense pain in my eye, temple and face all day long. Its really bad.I see the neurologist next week but Id feel better knowing this pain is just nerve pain and to be expected.

nope, i had a pretty mild case about 10 years ago, droop eye and mouth, but I don't remember any pain, just annoyance. Went away after about 2 weeks with meds. Hope you feel better!

My oldest Dstepdaughter's DH had this several years ago.. He was hospitalized for 2 reasons - to rule out a stroke and to manage the pain.. He was on a morhpine IV drip for several days before the pain was tolerable enough for him to be released.. He's fine now - and of course all of the droopiness is gone..

Could you call your doctor and find out if they can prescribe anything for you? It wouldn't be much fun having to spend Christmas day in such terrible pain.. :( If I were you, I would get on the phone first thing tomorrow morning (many doctors offices will be closed on Thursday) and see what they can do for you..

Good luck - and feel better..

I would try and go in sooner rather than later. They can put you on steroids or anti-inflammatory that will help it heal faster. It is stress related - is also an auto-immune disease, so they should also do a Lyme test (related).

FIL had is ( or has it) and I remember MIL saying how much pain he was in. Hope u feel better soon

DD had it when she was 10 (now 21). She had NO pain, except for the initial pain (brief...like a minute or so) near her ear at the onset.

BP isn't necessarily stress-related.

It's debatable (or at least it was back then) whether the Bells Palsy itself is treatable with medications (they didn't treat DD with any medications)...sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't, depending on the Dr. DD's BP cleared up in two weeks. They tested DD at the hospital for Lyme, and it was positive. So the only meds she got was the antibiotics to treat Lyme Disease.

But if you're in pain (I see this was before Christmas), I'd absolutely talk to a Dr about treating the pain. Head pain has to be one of the most miserable types of pain to deal with. Hope you're doing better.

A friend of mine had this when she was pregnant, so I thought that it was only in pregnant women, but I guess not. She had it the whole time but it went away after she gave birth.

Have they tested for Lyme Disease? When DD was diagnosed with Lyme, we didn't realize anything was wrong until the Bells Palsy set in. She would mention a pain here or there, but they seemed random and I passed it off as growing pains. When I saw her face drooping a little I researched online and immediately called the pediatrician. They ordered blood tests right away and put her on antibiotics. She's been fine since.

I had it for a month about 7 years ago. I don't remember any pain at all. I did have problems with my eye drying out.
