I never liked the tube things on the old Belle dress but think the dress could have been re-done so that it still closely resembled Belle's dress in the movie. As others have said, the new dress is too pastel and it does look like it's straight out of Gone with the Wind. The new hair is pretty but doesn't resemble Belle's hair in the movie.
Obviously Disney is trying to modernize the princesses but I think they have done a terrible job reconciling the new looks with the movies. I guess they decided that pastel yellow is more appealing to modern girls than the old color and that girls will find loose ringlets to be a more familiar hairstyle in today's world but that won't work as a marketing strategy if little girls don't recognize the characters from the movies. Reminds me of the new Coke fiasco.
I'm with you 100%! I am not a fan of the new style. I think she should be more authentic to the film. This one disappoints me![]()
I'd always thought Belle had lived in France.... but I must have missed the part in the movie where she lived in Dixie......
Im not quite sure why Disney are trying to fix something that isn't broken, they are modernising all the Princesses, some of them have been around for 60-70 years and are true classics. Why do they think all the characters need redesigning? They are making them look like Barbie dolls not Disney Princesses.

I get merchandise needs to be revamped to create new products but they are changing characters that have been loved and cherished for over a decade. Not everything has to be made sparkly !!!! What about adult fans who have grown up with all the classics?
I will definitely not be buying any further merchandise Disney produce now they have changed all the Princesses. I'm not sure I will even line up for them in the park anymore once they have all been 'changed'.
Seriously will Mulan and Pocahontas be changed so that their dresses are now sparkly?? The people creating these costumes must never have watched the films to get inspiration, at what point in the movie did Belle have her hair out in ringlets??
They are making them unrecognisable to fans who have grown up with the movies and stories . I don't even think kids will know who they are after watching the movies.
I really hope Disney realise what they are doing and will go back to the original costume ideas for the characters and not change any more of the Princesses or other characters.
