Belle redesign in parks

I never liked the tube things on the old Belle dress but think the dress could have been re-done so that it still closely resembled Belle's dress in the movie. As others have said, the new dress is too pastel and it does look like it's straight out of Gone with the Wind. The new hair is pretty but doesn't resemble Belle's hair in the movie.

Obviously Disney is trying to modernize the princesses but I think they have done a terrible job reconciling the new looks with the movies. I guess they decided that pastel yellow is more appealing to modern girls than the old color and that girls will find loose ringlets to be a more familiar hairstyle in today's world but that won't work as a marketing strategy if little girls don't recognize the characters from the movies. Reminds me of the new Coke fiasco.

I'm with you 100%! I am not a fan of the new style. I think she should be more authentic to the film. This one disappoints me :(

I'd always thought Belle had lived in France.... but I must have missed the part in the movie where she lived in Dixie......

Im not quite sure why Disney are trying to fix something that isn't broken, they are modernising all the Princesses, some of them have been around for 60-70 years and are true classics. Why do they think all the characters need redesigning? They are making them look like Barbie dolls not Disney Princesses. :furious:

I get merchandise needs to be revamped to create new products but they are changing characters that have been loved and cherished for over a decade. Not everything has to be made sparkly !!!! What about adult fans who have grown up with all the classics?

I will definitely not be buying any further merchandise Disney produce now they have changed all the Princesses. I'm not sure I will even line up for them in the park anymore once they have all been 'changed'.

Seriously will Mulan and Pocahontas be changed so that their dresses are now sparkly?? The people creating these costumes must never have watched the films to get inspiration, at what point in the movie did Belle have her hair out in ringlets??

They are making them unrecognisable to fans who have grown up with the movies and stories . I don't even think kids will know who they are after watching the movies.

I really hope Disney realise what they are doing and will go back to the original costume ideas for the characters and not change any more of the Princesses or other characters.

They ARE changing Mulan to that ugly purple outfit :(

Yep, I don't even remember her in any part of the film wearing that outfit :confused3. They are even making some Mulan dolls white now?? Not sure why Disney have decided now is the time to change things that have been working for a decade? I don't think Pocahontas was running around in the forest with John Smith in a sparkly dress and her hair all perfect and curled :rotfl:

I didn't see this posted already, so here we go.

Belle's new dress and hair was debuted in the parks, similar to how Cindy's was fairly recently.

I was 'meh' about Cindy, but I actually really love the new Belle dress!

Pictures for comparison...

DD says the old is more like the movies, but she likes the new one too and I guess that is what really matters. As long as DD makes the connection I am OK with either.

Mulan now "sparkles" (I don't remember that when she was on the battlefields.... :confused3 )

Pocahontas now sparkles too.... :worried:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Both the scenes with Mulan and Pocahontas must have been cut from the finished film!! Probably Merida's scenes were cut to from the film ? Im pretty sure Disney will ruin her costume too by adding sparkles!!

Love, love, love the new dress. It looks like an actual dress and not a stiff, uncomfortable sculpture made of lemon rind and shellack.

Not a fan of the new wig, though. The old one looks more natural.

I think the new design looks nothing like the classic dress from the movie... I prefer the colouring of the new wig but wished they had off kept the same style as the previous hair do!!

I saw a 3/4 shot of this gown yesterday and went "Hmmmm...... just not sure what I think of that. I knew I'd be a tough sell on this makeover, because Belle was our favorite. I loved her old gown. But I was ready for something new and sort of looked forward to what it would look like.

Now that I've seen the entire thing? I think it looks awful. I love mixed textures, but this just looks like someone with multiple personalities designed it. WAY too many different fabrics and shades.

And I'm not sure if a little girl saw her in the park she'd know for sure it was Belle.

:thumbsup2 I agree, she doesn't even "look" like Belle anymore. It looks nothing like the dress in the movie.

Belle, Ariel and Merida are the family favourites.. we are very hesitant after seeing the new Belle costume as to what they have created for Ariel and Merida. Not sure as to why characters need to be changed when they are still as popular as they were when the movies first premiered. :confused3 At least with the previous costumes you could make the connection to what they were in the movies, but now they look like a Barbie imitating a Disney Princess, and a very bad imitation at that.....

This kind of makes me sad to think Disney have made the decision to mess with the formula

Does anyone have a picture of the new and "improved" Mulan?

The costume for Mulan hasn't been produced yet, but for all the latest advertisements she has been shown wearing her purple costume. If you type Mulan in on the Disney Store website, the banner shows Mulan wearing a sparkly costume similar to that being worn by her now in the parks.

I like it; however, I never liked the old ballgown and in my opinion, it didn't match the movie. Yes the older ballgown's color matched better, but it looked really big, bulky and stiff; whereas the newest version looks softer, flowy and more delicate.

I don't understand why everyone is so against change. Belle is my favorite princess and I love her new dress. I think she looks more real. Yes I understand the princesses are based on cartoons but little girls believe they are real. And isn't everything in Disney supposed to be real to kids? So why not make them look real. I am glad they changed that horrible tacky yellow to something that actually looks like a princess dress.

Everything needs updating now and then. Look at Mickey. How many times have they updated him. Take a look at pictures from when the parks first opened until now. He's been updated and for the better.

If my 3 year old can recognize that it's still Belle I'm sure 5 and 7 year olds can too. Kid's are smart I am sure they can put brown hair and a yellow dress together and know that it's Belle.

I like the old look better.... it looks more like an "animated" dress, like the movie. The new one looks like Belle is going to prom!! Her hair looks great though. :goodvibes

I'm not against change at all....unless of course, Belle wants to do a Nice and Easy commercial and go blonde for the summer.... I don't think that would work out so very good....:rolleyes1
