Has anyone switched recently? Everything in my house is Rogers except my phone, so I was wondering what the service from Rogers is like? Did you have any problems as they ported your home number? (We did the cell phones with no issues, but I don't want to mess with my home phone!) Thanks for any experiences that you've had!

Happy Rogers customer here. Was originally with Sprint, which was acquired by Rogers several years ago. With Cable, internet and phone service, the bundle discount is nice.

I am interested too, Have been thinking about switching to Rogers and hope to read some input here....

I have Shaw, but I'm guessing you don't have that back East.

We have Rogers TV, Cell, internet and home phone. We have had no problems

We have Rogers Cable,Highspeed , and Home Phone and are very happy the only drawback is that the phone will go dead after the power has been off for several hrs ( Phone modem has a built in battery backup )

is it true that if your power goes out your phone line won't work? I was told that maybe two or so years ago, and thought "whoa, wait a second" My bell land line always works on my corded phone when the power goes out, it is unrelated.

Only after the power has been out for several hrs and we do have a cell for backup in a emergency

It does have a battery pack on it, not sure how long the battery lasts. But also keep in mind if the cable goes out, you also have no phone...
I have everything Rogers but the phone, theres just too many instance that I will be phone-lis.

I may be the only one here that will say this, but I switched FROM Rogers Back to Bell. They kept cutting out my ability to make long Distance Calls. The first time it happend I figured it was because I had let me bill go a little over due (Less than a month). So I paid up, and for several days longer I still was not able to call long distance. I called Rogers, and they said there was something on my account to allow local calls only, they didn't know why that was on my account, but removed it and then all was fine. A few months later it happened again. This time my bill was not over due, so it confused me. Again, I called Rogers, and had them fix it and I told them at that point, that if it happened again, I'll terminate our contract with them, As they are not providing me with the Service I was paying for.
Guess what? A few months later, it was Christmas time! I went to call all my Southern Ontario Relatives, and WAS UNABLE TO! I had to call my mom here in Ottawa to call down to them for me and ask them to call me! A few days into the New Year, BELL CALLED! Asked me if I would consider comming back to them. HELL YA! Rogers charged me a $50.00 fee for cancelling the contract, I argued it saying they are the ones who breached the contract first by not giving me the service I was paying for. They wouldn't budge, so I paid it to get rid of them. I'm happy with my Bell service now, no longer have those long distance issues.
I still have our Cable, cell phone and internet through Rogers, and don't have problems with those.
Thats been my experience.

I switched over long time ago, 2 years maybe? No problem whatsoever. Great discount especially with the bundle. I didn't check the phone service when we had power outage, all except for one phone use power at my house anyway. Hey, how often do we get power outages here in Canada right? I don't think that's a concern at all. Besides, everyone has a cell phone these days, right?

People used to complain about Rogers Internet connection being slow or slower than DSL, not with my line, always burning fast! A lot of people don't realize it's the computer that's getting slower and slower, and needs to be rebuilt once a year or more. This only applies to Windows machine, not Mac.

... but then I have also been wondering about switching to an IP-based phone service. No need to change your phone to IP phone or Skype phone, just buy a device for $25, and the service is super cheap. A friend of mine uses this at his office, his own small business, and it works great.

We are with Bell and had considered Rogers, until our cable was switched over. We are so unhappy with their cable service that we will be leaving Rogers cable. We will be going to Star Choice for our t.v. service.
However our cell phones are with Rogers.

Power outages? We get them frequently here in Ottawa West! New neighbourhood, old Grid. We have ONE phone that is not a cordless and it is in the basement. It works during the power outages, IF we can find it in the dark :rotfl:

We had nothing but problems when we switched to Rogers phone. We have everything else with them, and figured why not? We were without service several times, and it was the absolutely terrible customer service that clinched it. Every call seemed to require the involvement of many staffers and we seemed to always encounter poor attitudes and a lack of prompt response. We switched back to Bell, and will never try again.

When we were with Rogers, our phone line went dead (sometimes hours, sometimes a full day or longer) at least 5 or 6 times! Then to top things off, our internet service was awful and very unreliable, it too would die off for no apparent reason. Other house in our neighbourhood were having the same problem, so it wasn't a case of the wiring in our house. Needless to say we switched to Bell, no problems since.

Well I'm with Videotron in Quebec, but it's the same principle ( I believe they even use the same equipment ). Phone over cable. And there were a couple of bugs with our internal house wiring in the first couple of weeks, but ever since, it works great, they ported over the number with no problem, and I no longer have to deal with Bell. Bonus!

If anyone is looking for a third option, check out Primus. Their phone service uses a land line (they rent Bell's lines) and it's much cheaper. Their internet is DSL but the speed is fast and they do not regulate how much/fast you can download (for those of you who download tv or movies or use torrents). Plus you can earn airmiles. Our phone service with all the calling features, unlimited north america long distance 24/7, and DSL internet is $70 per month taxes in.
Much better deal than Rogers or Bell, even accounting for a bundle discount.
