What are the chances and will they know during check-in whether or not you will have to move if simply changing from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom on a Saturday check-in (the possible move day is a Saturday not the initial check-in) everything else being equal?

If your two room bedroom is a dedicated room versus a lockup, you will have to move. If it is a two bedroom lock-out you may have a chance. They should be able to tell you at check-in. It wouldn't hurt to have MS note this on the reservation.

It's a lock-off.

WebMaster - that's a beautiful AKV signature in your first post (a little large, but beautiful none the less!). :goodvibes Too bad I don't own at AKV!

I think it is more dependent on when you are going. If it is a hi occupancy time, you may have to move.

They would need to line you up to where the studio is empty/vacated on that Saturday 2 bedroom switch day.

You have the best chance at the larger resorts. The smaller resorts will be tougher but it is doable, not guaranteed though.

I would definitely check at check in and maybe reconfirm the night before. If the studio room is empty, your chances are better.

I hope it works out for you, that would be a relief to just swing open the door and not have to move.:wizard:

It's Kidani in May but i was hoping the Saturday check-in would work in my favor.

Getting the girraffe to stay still with the ears on was the most difficult part ;)

I think Kidani/May/Saturday you will have a fairly good shot at staying put. A Friday would be even better. Most people will split the weekend points, but very few will stay both nights. Most people dont stay Fri-Fri.
The farther from Sunday you are the better.

Assuming you're not forced out due to the lockoff vs dedicated issue, your chances are very good. Make sure you put a request on both reservations an discuss again at the front desk when you check in. Then go back to the desk on the change over day as early as possible, preferably in the 6-7 am range and make the request again. They can set it up that way from the first check in but can't guarantee it until the day of changeover. But it is in DVC's best interest to do so assuming you aren't demanding a full cleaning on the change day.

I agree with Dean. Make sure the request is noted on both reservations, restate the request at arrival and again the day before the room change. I'd also go down to the desk early on the change day and restate the request again. We've been able to this a few times at OKW without problem, but there's always the chance that it could fall apart.

Just go to the desk, flash that Cricket smile and ask! :)

I'm assuming I'd get a key reissue either way right? The trash towel count starts over again too correct? All keys will open both doors in a lockoff after a switch?

All this is assuming we like the first room too :) of course we won't know what we like until they build it in the first place ;)

Yes, you would need to "check-in" and get new keys. The housekeeping schedule will also start over - although they sometimes do get out of sync with these situations. Yes, all keys will open all doors in a lockoff.

If you're not happy with the first room location, I'd let thme know early on that you now WANT a different location for the 2BR - but you may be "homeless" for a few hours in that situation. :)

That "homeless" part is the part we don't want :)

We are debating if just the chance of going "homeless" is a good enough reason to try another resort out for a few days since we might have to move anyways. Of course staying put is by far a more attractive situation.

Technically you'd get a full cleaning on the changover day. It is my opinion that doing so will somewhat increase the chance of moving. I'd ask the do it later in the time, maybe the next day instead. I also think they sometimes forget to do it at all in this situation.

This is an interesting thread and it has highlighted something that we hadn't considered. We have a dedicated studio booked at Jambo in Mon Feb 9th - Thurs 12th. Then we move into a 2 bed LO when our friends arrive on the 12th.

So from what your saying we could call MS and see if we could change to a lock off studio and then we may be able to stay put on the Thursday. We would have to ensure that we got full housekeeping that day though because we are moving into the room with the Queen sized bed and our friends are having the studio lock off.

This is worth considering, thanks for pointing this out.
