Is there anyone else out there like me? I have NEVER been on a plane. I really want to be Allegient (sp?) Air for our upcoming trip. Round trip, I am looking at under 300 bucks to fly. I am having major anxiety over it though. I am so afraid that the plane is going to crash or something is going to happen. I can't get over it. That is why we drive everywhere. Is there anyone else like me out there?

There are plenty of people out there like you..... personally, I love to fly. It is a great experience.....

I truly believe the airplane will crash every time I get on one. I have been on many and they have not crashed yet. I cry everytime we take off. quitely and thank God ever time we land safely. My niece is also a afriand. She sends texts to everyone before we take off saying just in case the plane crashes I love you, thanks for being my friend etc. Once we had bad turbulence (sp) and her best friend was sitting about 10 rows back... she stands up and yells to her Sara, I love you. Your my best friend. They both cry, run down the isle hug and freak the whole airplane out.

Your not the only one! I am right there with you, so is my niece, and my brother. My son on the other hand loves to fly! He tells me to be brave, it will be okay and holds my hand. He is 6.

My wife was the same way untill she found a little pill called xannax(sp?) changed everything. Now she has no problem flying.

One thing to keep in mind.....the flight attendents and officers really don't want to crash and burn either. They fly many times every day, with few incidents. The vast majority of airline personnel retire with no incidents at all.
When you board that plane, watch those FAs....they will just be going about their normal routine. There is no need for concern if they don't look concerned.

Umaangel00:
I will be flying for the first time in 26 years next week. We have driven many times and taken the AutoTrain many times to WDW. This trip is only for 4 nights and we didn't want to waste time driving or taking the train so DH & I decided to try flying again. I look at it this way: I am much more likely to be in a serious auto accident while driving 2080 miles over 35 hours roundtrip than being in a plane crash during two 2hr 20 min flights. I imagine I will experience a little anxiety at take off and landing, but it should only last for a few minutes or at the most 2 hr 20 min. While driving (I drive most of the way as DH can't deal with a lot of traffic) I am on edge as i am always watching every other car on the road to make sure I know what they are doing. If you feel overly anxious, talk to your Dr and I'm sure he/she will be able to prescribe something to help you.
I hope you will be able to enjoy the experience of your flight and all the time it will save from driving. Have a great trip.

We've been to WDW 42 times, we've driven and used Amtrak and I have flown 3 trips way back when, before 9/11. I could care less about the FA's and pilots, it's me thats having the anxiety problems. We just returned this past Monday from WDW, via Amtrak, and now thinking the flying again, with the help of Valium. We've done alot of train trips to WDW, we're from northeast Ohio and time from home to Kissimmee is supposed to be 36 hours. That's a lot of time but we never looked at it that way and enjoyed the trip and train ride but after this past fiasco on Amtrak, getting into WDW extra 7 hours late and coming home being held up in Savannah GA and extra 3 hours has curbed my appeal for the train. Each way we had a 6 hour layover in DC, that's along time to sit in a train station and do nothing, they need to tighten that window up but trains are notorious for running late. Anyhoo, wife was really peeved missing here Disney time, was supposed to arrive at 1:30 pm and we didn't pull in till 7:30 pm so arrival day was gone but the time we got picked up and did groceries. Our daughter and SIL flew down from Columbus and arrived at 10 am and was picking us up at the depot but by being that late messed them all up too, and when they flew out for home, they called us that morning 2 hours later and were there and we hadn't boarded the train yet and had 30 some hours to go.

I'm really going to pursue the flying avenue again, 1.5-2 hours of air misery vs 36-40 hours of train misery, not hard to see the math in that one. I'm hoping I can suck it up for a flight.

I am 41 & flew for the first time in October. I was petrified during take off. I made dh hold my hand. I am ready to go again in Sept. We drove down back in 2000 & it took like 18 hours. We flew there in 2.:thumbsup2

My simple logic is that I am safer on the plane than off the plane, and if I die on a plane, it'll be amazing that something else didn't get me first!

Seriously, we all drive past crashes on the freeway and never give it a thought that it could (or even should) have been us. Yet we hear about an airplane accident half a world away and live in fear that we're next.

I believe it has a lot to do with how these events are reported in the media.

Now, having said this I do have my own irrational fear trigger and I certainly understand how others feel about flying.

Good luck, all!

You are more likely to be killed walking out the door of your house then you are on a plane.

In the words of my partner...you have an irrational fear.

We will probably drive but thanks for all the advice. I just realized that Allegient does not fly into MCO there for no Magical Express so we would need a rental car which we can not afford. If it wasn't for that, I would probably just bite the bullet and fly.

Absolutely right! This is a fact: more people are killed in the US each year by vending machines than on airplanes.

I have had some terrible flights myself, but trying to remember that I have no fear of vending machines gets me through the flight.

You are describing me to a T. I do the exact same thing. We started flying to WDW 2 years ago only because when we went the first time in 2005, it took 20+ hours in the car (with 2 small children), and we didn't want to do that again. After I saw that it took 2 hours to get there, I was hooked on flying only to WDW, eventhough I am very nervous about it. I am very excited about going to WDW, but not about the flying part. The only way I will fly is if it is a direct flight and preferrably one of the first flights out, the sooner I get it done, the better. Now on the way home, I want it to be a later flight so I can have more fun at the World :goodvibes

Here is some pixiedust: for all of you/us who are a nervous wreck at flying, but will do ANYTHING to get to our Happy Place.

I had never flown until our 2006 Florida trip. It was a 2.5 hour flight and I was so nervous the entire time. Every noise and little bump I thought I was going to jump out of my skin. Last year I was a little nervous but not nearly as bad. I think it gets easier the more you do it, at least for me.
