I noticed you're staying at POP. If you don't have a car, you can get to POFQ via boat from DTD--it's supposed to be a relaxing trip. And, I would think, a nice change from busses.
Unless there is a new (healthier) way of making beignets, they are not baked, but deep-fried. YUMMMMMMM, the calories! the cholesterol! I get hungry just thinking about them!

No, you're right, definitely fried and completely buried in powdered sugar. Probably just wishful thinking on my part because we ate so many of them, trying to lessen the guilt... (wouldn't stop me from eating more, though!)
Then I have you to thank for my ressie at POFQ. Thank You! Originally, I had a reservation at ASMO because this was a last minute trip because of the free dining. I had pledged to keep the total price way down. Then I read your post, pictured myself indulging on beignets and .....changed the resort. I told DH that DGD will be spending more time at the pool because the heat in August will be too much for her, and that is true, but it was really the beignets .
Some stores have Cafe du Monde beignet mix. I have a box at home. Maybe it is just in stores in the south but I did find the mix in of all places a grocery store in a small town in Texas!! We lived in Texas for 10 years and beignets were unheard of there. You can also order it online I am sure. They are really very easy to make.
I have made them from the mix quite a few times, but they are soooo messy to cook. They are great fresh! Thanks to everyone! My DH said last night I have to put POFQ on the MUST MUST MUST do list. And then asked if they serve cafe ole coffee.
We love beignets too! The first time we had them was at DTD in California. There's a Ralph Brennans there. Now we have them on Sundays a couple times a month since I found the exact same mix at Cost Plus World Market. It's about $3 a box and makes alot of beignets. My DD6 loves to help roll them out and cut them. So of course, we get some unusual shapes-but they are still declicious! One way I found to reduce the mess is to fry them in a high sided pan. Cuts down on the splattering! Enjoy!
What time does the beignet place in POFQ open in the mornings? DH and I MUST go there at least once during our trip. Probably on our last day there, when we're checking out.
It is part of the bakery and opens when everything else does for the counter service. They don't take long to fix, so maybe while others are getting ready you can run down and place an order and bring it back to the room for breakfast one morning. If you get there by 8 am or earlier you shouldn't have much of a wait. But I don't think they have the cafe o'le, but they do have french roast in the room. Not that nasty Nescafe
