beignets at POFQ

They are a sweet pastry made to order in the food court. They are a piece of dough that they fry and cover with powdered sugar. They are a yummy treat!

Just so you know, its not like a typical donut. Its hollow inside. But omg theyre soooooo good! You can order either 3 or 6. I ordered 3, my son ate two, i ate one. Wish i ordered 6 instead! Lol! DELISH!

One word...heavenly!!! The best description is tastes like an elephant ear, but folded and hollow. I think I gained 10 lbs. Because I think I ate these everyday.

Just remember to set up a napkin bib before eating, because you will be covered in powdered sugar

AND eat while still fresh and hot...these do not keep at all. As they cool, they toughen (like shoe leather) and begin to taste greasy.

These are just like a sopapilla if you are familiar to those. They are messy to eat though as they are sprinkled heavily with powdered sugar which goes everywhere when you pick it up and take a bite. Delicious when fresh and hot. They don't keep though so plan to eat them right away.

I'm a frequent visitor to New Orleans and always hit Cafe Du Monde for beignets.

Sadly, I was disappointed by the ones at POFQ. Too crusty, not soft enough. But if you didn't know any better, you might enjoy them.

Totally recommend giving them a try! But, as a PP said be prepared with napkins because that powdered sugar gets everywhere!

As others have said, they are really messy (don't breathe in the powered sugar), but so good!

I'm so glad someone felt the same way I did. And stopping at Cafe Du Monde on the way to Disney didn't help one bit.

No, they don't serve them at POR. You could just walk over or take the boat. I do have to say that they are pretty good!!!

I'm from NOLA area and often went to Cafe du Monde and make a yearly trek back down there to see family,etc. I always have to go get my fix at the French Quarter (food and beignets). The ones at POFQ are such a poor excuse for the real things. I was so excited when I found out about them a few years ago, and they were so greasy, nothing like what they should have tasted like. They're supposed to be light and fluffy. Oh,well,

I haven't had them in NO so I can't compare them but I like them at POFQ. Funny thing is I don't like to me underdone and ask for them to be cooked longer-golden brown.

Yes they are messy, and yes don't breathe in the powdered sugar. We always make a trip over to POFQ just to have them as a breakfast. We will get 2 or 3 orders of 3 for the 3 of us. We use our SC from them. Also, last year we went back to POFQ for dinner and then got the beignets as our desserts. (you can come back after you eat so they are nice and hot. )

I've had them at POFQ and at Ralph Brennans in DTD at Disneyland. I do think the ones at RB are better-they serve them in a brown bag so you can shake them up to distribute the sugar. At POFQ they serve them on a plate. They used to serve them in a styrofoam container (the may still if you are taking them to-go) When they put them in the container I open it up immeadiatley so they don't go soft.

I've bought the beignet mix from Cost Plus and made them at home. They are very good. The mix is authentic RB and is only $3-4 at Cost Plus but it's almost $10 at RB in DLR. Same size, same everything.

I dip mine in espresso (which you can also get from the same spot in POFQ). I think dipping them helps with the texture and I love the sweet/bitter combo.

It seems like the general consensus it that these things are the best, but I have to say I didn't like them at all! I've never had beignetes before so I have no comparison, but thought they were dry, too thin, and greasy. I ate them hot...I love funnel cake so I thought I would like them - but just didn't.

Oh, and the 'don't breath in the powdered sugar' tip is a good one...doesn't feel that great in the lungs..
