I am having my living room/dining room painted. Have u used this paint? what did u think? my dining room walls had wallpaper and my living room has some new sheetrock - looking for opinions or should i do primer and then just paint?

I just used it to repaint our bedroom. I was covering denim & white rag roll with a light sage color. It took 2 coats. Regular paint would have taken me 3 coats so it did work for me.

We used it to change the color from Dark Hunter Green to Beige and it took 2 coats. So, Yes I give it a thumbs up.

I just thought it was OK. It was no where near as good as the Sherman Williams paint I used upstairs and I believe it cost more.

I would not buy it again....I was not that impressed.

Well, a high quality primer will cost $18-20 per gallon, Behr paint & primer is $32. If you need a prime coat, use a primer. Then buy a top quality finish coat.

we just used it to finish our den, i thought it was pretty good, it still took 2 coats, but we were painting over navy blue.. so yeah..
we got it on sale, or i probably would have just stuck with kilz.

We used it for my daughters room. Went from lilac to blue. One coat is all we needed and it covered great. Behr is the only paint we use anymore!

I used it in my son's room...worked great. Have another room to paint...will used it again.

Glad to read this topic. I'm considering re-painting my back LR, which is BLACK and RED.....I like it, but cant find a good border to go with it. (It was to be Mickey Mouse originally) Maybe i'll keep the black and red and just do something other than Mickey....But if I decide to change it,
I would try this 'paint and primer' in one!

Wasn't overly impressed with it, myself.

Painted over a light beige wall with something close to a rust color and it definitely took two coats. Would have used two coats of regular paint and had probably similar results (judging from my past experience)

Just wrapped up painting a bedroom with it. Went from a terra cotta orange to a very light almost white yellow. I only use Behr so we gave it a try. Covered great first coat, but I'm not the best painter so I did two coats. DH said I should have used a cheaper primer and then used the Behr. However, I'm very pleased with the outcome. You can always buy one of their samples to see how you like it.

We went from a sage green to cranberry red and we LOVED it! Covered great, did two coats just to use up what we bought. We definitely would use it again!!

Wasn't overly impressed. Used it to paint the kids bathroom, I put on 3 coats and it was still splotchy, DH put on 1 coat and then spot painted a few more, so yes some places took 5 coats. Now we were painting over new home beige, so maybe the painters didn't seal the drywall and it just absorbed it more. :confused3 If it matters we were painting the room white.

working in a painting field I don't recommend it. First of all what its doing is washing out the true color of a paint. Its thinner than a regular primer and paint color. Also, think of this, when you paint how many coats do you usually put on? Most people do 2 so where are you saving if you are still putting 2 coats on? Not only that alot of the above posts are mentioning going over darker colors which no matter what you use, you are going to need minimum 2 coats.

I am a big fan of Benjamin Moore paints. I do not work for a paint place specifically, just from my experience of painting and lots of it. Actually alot of times I don't even use a primer. I just personally painted my living room went from a light mint green which was under wall paper that I tore off, to a cinnamon stick (kinda redder tara cata color) and just painted 2 coats of paint no primer so I saved time and money without a primer.

Behr paints always get the top rating in Consumer Reports and I agree with this. It's the only type of paint I use.

I have used the primer and paint all in one, and yes, it takes 2 coats, but otherwise I use a coat of primer and a coat of paint anyway, so this is actually a bit cheaper for me. I don't find that it is thinner than regular paint at all. I think it is excellent quality paint. It also occasionally goes on sale.

my painter said i don't need primer...but its going over sheet rock on 1 wall in the living room and in the dining room, we tore down wallpaper? do u think i can skip the primer and just do 2 coats of paint?

Our front door was red flat paint, we painted it with High Drama (similar red) in semi-gloss. Let's just say there was high drama when the first two coats went on and it looked like hot pink OPI nail polish! :scared1: It took at least 3, might have been a 4th to look red!

I always prime...always. So no matter what, I'd do one coat of primer and two coats of color.

With the Behr paint/primer, I did two coats.

I used Benjamin Moore in my kitchen last year and altho it's my most favorite paint color ever (Monroe Bisque :thumbsup2), I primed and then needed 3 coats, over a medium yellow. :confused3 I was surprised.

Behr paints have changed alot in the past couple of years. They reformulated to lower the VOC's. The standard paint or Ultra as they call it, is not rated number one anymore by CR. I think it is #3. For the money, I would go with Benjamin Moore Regal select paint and primer.

When we painted our house 2 years ago we used 3 brands of paint. Benjamin moore, Beir and fresh air voc free paint.

Honestly the Benjamin moore paint has stood up the best. Its in our bathrooms and our kitchens. In our living room and dining room we used the fresh air. The color of the paint for our dining room never came out right they mixed it 3 times with their own premade dye packs and no luck also when you clean an area on the wall it shows. It doesn't show on the Benjamin moore. In our bedrooms and our study we used Beir. I felt the Beir holds up to cleaning but somehow is easy to nick. If I where to accidentally brush something against it it nicks but not so on the other two brands of paint. We just recently renovated another bedroom and had the basement refinished. I'm using Benjamin moor paints in those areas since it has held up the best for me. I also have to say the color looks as rich in those areas as the day I painted them.
