Has anyone tried this tour?? If so, would love some reviews! :wizard: We are trying to find a tour we can take our almost 9 yo ds on! :sunny: Would love some advise on ANY family tours! :cool1:

We did the BTST 6 years ago. I'm a gardener so I loved it. It was very interesting to me, but only if your 9 year old likes nature, she/he might not enjoy it. There is a lot of walking too if I remember, but hey, your in Disney, that's all you do!

Have you have ever taken the boat ride in the land pavillion ? Well, on the seeds tour you get to see some of the same things, only on foot. It is nice because you get a more up close look at all the plants in the green house as you walk through it. You also are able to walk right up to the large fish tanks you see from the boats. One place you dont get to see from the boats but you do on seeds, are some of the labs where they do the research. The tour lasts about an hour. I do seem to remember(its been a few years) they let the kids on the tour participate by releasing lady bugs. I think its 50-50 whether your son would like it. He may find some of the large plants interesting as well as the fish farms.

As far as other tours your son may like is a steam train tour at MK, theres a tour called Family Magic (I think) at MK for the whole family. Backstage Safari at Animal kingdom if animals are a favorite.

I did it a couple of years ago. Like Lancer said, you get to walk around in the greenhouse, which you see on the boat tour. Some of it was interesting, but DH and I were honestly bored and thought it was too long for us. We just tried it for something different. But I did learn a few things that I still remember, like about hydroponics. I'm glad we did it, but I wouldn't do it again. If you're interested in gardening, it will be fun.

do i need to book this tour in advance? or is it something i can just do while in the land?

Take it for what its worth, but, 3 years ago at the end of January, I was able to sign up the morning of the tour at the land pavillion for a 1:30 tour(there were several times) and was able to pay cash there. All the tours over the years have gotten popular so I would not depend on walking up and expect to get in. If you book in advance, it's only about $12, witha 48 hr cancellation policy. If at the last minute you cant go you are only out $12.(I do realize this may still seem like a lot to some).

My husband and 15 year old daughter did this the week before Christmas. We signed them up the morning of the tour and they had their pick of times. The CM said usually only the last tour of the day was ever full. My DH and DD were the only ones on their tour! My husband loved it and got lots of ideas, and my DD liked it. My DH really enjoys working in the yard, and DD is a teenager who thinks she should not have to work at all. :rotfl:

It cost $12 and we got a 10% discount with our annual pass, also with a Disney VISA.

We went on this tour in October. As we were walking in both kids (11 and 7) stated that they just knew they were going to be SO BORED. Well, by the first couple of stops on our tour, they were asking the most questions. They both really got into the spirit and wound up loving it! Both have already asked to go do it again (my daughter wanted to go the next day!)

And as background, we aren't gardeners or anything. We just had a good guide who really worked to keep everyone involved and interested.

I guess, too, it depends on the personality of your 9 yo; ours made it through the boat tour (which was educational and interesting), but they (we as a family) would be reluctant on a walk-through, opting for other pavillions with more engaging activities.

Being Disney, there is something for everyone, and It seems nearly every tour or ride is fun for all ages.
