Even if I was voting for Kerry,I do not like his wife. I think it's fine if you want to speak your mind but their is a classy way of doing it. She just comes across as rough. As a First Lady it's part of your job to represent the President and the country, people will judge you by a first impression. Laura Bush (not because I am voting for Bush) represents a classy, strong, calming, First Lady. Even if you don't like Bush, you have to like her.

Laura Bush is hands down the better first lady of the two. Kerry's wife is not in my opinion graceful or classy. JMHO.

Another Laura Bush fan here. I don't see how anyone could not like her. While I personally have no problem with Teresa Heinz, I can certainly see how some might.

*Dons flame-proof suit*

Okay, here is my impression of Laura Bush. I think she has many opinions, and I think some of them directly contradict her husband's platforms. I have absolutely no proof of this, other than body language in interviews (more from the first campaign 4 years ago as I don't have a TV now) and a sense I get that she supresses her thoughts alot.

That is fine, if that's what she wants to do. I think she is an educated woman who probably has a lot of good ideas that she is afraid to talk about for fear of undermining her husband's administration. I personally couldn't do that, but to each her own. I think she'd be fascinating to talk to if you could get her to be truly open though.

I do like her more than Heinz-Kerry. She just rubs me the wrong way. I can't imagine her at a state dinner.

I'm voting for Kerry, FYI.

Personally I can't get past the title of the thread.

Sorry, flame me if you want but it seems out of date and a mite sexist to me.............

Living in Massachusetts we have to put up with Ms. Theresa and believe me she's a hard pill to swallow. Mrs. Bush, IMHO, is not only beautiful, but bright and articulate. I'd vote for her for President and the heck with the rest of them.

I think they both have a tendancy to be a bit crude.

Laura Bush fan here, personally I would be embarrassed at Heinz representing the country. (this has nothing to do with Kerry, just based on her behaviour/attitude)

Just curious, can you cite some examples?

I know about Mrs. Heinz Kerry saying Shove It to a reporter, whether that was crude or not is a matter for debate. I personally think it was silly of her, but not "crude" per se.

I've never heard Mrs. Bush say anything that even remotely resembles crude. What did she say/do that was?

A mite sexist??? How very polite and understated of you, crazyforgoofy. This title needs to be thrown back to the 50's or even beyond.

And, to be honest, the term "classy" is starting to really irritate me too- it's the word that always comes up in these unnecessarily match-ups between potential first ladies, and it's become coded for "understated" instead of "outspoken."

MTE. I heard about Theresa Heinz-Kerry passing out pins w/ swear words on them (a crude gesture IMO) and about her speaking about not wanting to raise her children in our wonderful country. She wanted to raise them abroad. Maybe like Gwyneth Paltrow and her little Apple, Theresa thinks we are just too patriotic for her tastes. I hear even Kerry's campaign personnel get nervous when she speaks because she is such a loose cannon. They scrambled a bit over her comment that no one is qualified to be the President. Hmmmm.... I don't want that kind of person being my First Lady.

Laura Bush on the other hand is lovely, articulate, caring and well spoken. She is my choice.

I couldn't agree more! Evidently if you are woman that speaks her mind and is independent then you are not classy. I hope to never be classy then! ;)

I like Laura Bush - I can't see how anyone could hate her. However I do think she projects the idea that woman should stand behind their man and nod in agreement over everything they believe. I personally would like to see her stand out a bit with her own ideas, thoughts and opinions. No couple agrees 100% of the time.

Well until we have a women as a President, how is this title saying anything that sounds outdated or 50's???? Why can't this be a simple question on a First Lady choice? Does everything have hidden messages? Does this mean this is demeaning to women? Is the title First Lady innappropriate? You know I am a women, but I don't need constant validation of it. The one thing that drives me nuts are women who have to show they are just as tough as men, and their on a mission to prove this. Please just answer the question, don't make a debate out of the topic,it's just a simple question!!!!!!!

Ummmmmmmmmm, its the "BEHIND every man" bit I have the most trouble with..............

It's an expression - I don't think we need to personally attack the OP because she used an expression in her title. You are looking for a fight that isn't there.
