Behavior in Restaurants?

Ill-manners know no social boundaries.
totally ot but i also waitressed in my younger years and it seemed inevitablythe ones who stiffed you or stole your tips were not the "normal working class" but the upper class which ticked me off cause it wasn't "need" then it was "greed"

Oh JANN33 you must have worked in the same places that I did. Some thought that they were entitled to treat the wait staff badly. I know that it is not fair to generalize, but I do remember that the people who were the most considerate and generous were the people in the same working class backgroud as me. Oh well....

For what it's worth, caesar salad is traditionally (and correctly) eaten with the hands, one leaf at a time.

Though this is next to impossible in restaurants where it's cut up into bits!

Did they not have silverware in Tijuana in 1924?

Although the "original" recipe, printed on the back of Caesar Cardini's business card from the 1920's does not specify whether to cut the lettuce up or not, most reprints of the recipe call for chopping the romaine into 2 inch pieces.

But to the topic. Like I said, regardless of whether it is free or not, I have noticed a lot more left over food on tables of paries that I have sat next to. I know they used the dining plan because they specifically asked the server about it.

For instance, I saw a family of 6 each with a large entree that they barely touched. A young teen girl with a half chicken with what looked like two bites ouit of it. Then, desert came.

Why did I notice them when I should have been minding my own business? Well, the Wolfgang Puck Cafe is not known for spacious dining rooms and lots of room between you and the next table.

When DH and I were planning where to eat, we tried to look for places that weren't the "traditional" choices (CRT, Le Cellier, etc). We booked several resort restaurants, including Olivia's, Boatwright's and Spoodles.

Not to make excuses, but with in-park dining, you're going to run into people that have been there since the crack of dawn, in the blistering heat, lugging around three cranky children who just want to eat. Putting up with that kind of stuff for 10-12 hours is bound to make anyone not as friendly and chipper as we perhaps think they should be....regardless of whether they're dining for "free" or not.

Personally, I think the offer of free dining was a great idea. It gives families (including my own) that would not normally have a chance to eat at some of the nicer restaurants a chance to really enjoy their vacation.

It's been so long I don't even remember what the OP said, but for everyone else that is having a cow over the socio-economic situation of Disney travlers, I'm a Medicaid caseworker with our county social services agency...and believe me, I've seen MUCH better behavior out of some my clients than my coworkers. It's all in how you're brought up.

Heathens?

Should I whip out my holy water!?! :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

LOL! Well, perhaps not heathens. Perhaps the 'Great Unwashed'?
:rotfl2:

But you get the general idea. Like another poster said, the more people that
get to take advantage of the offer, the greater chance you'll run into the
bad apples who spoil the bunch. :teeth:

Now, I know this has deviated hugely from the original topic, but I was fascinated by the whole Caesar Salad/finger thing. Isn't the internet wonderful?:

History of Salads

I also identify with the poster who laments the passing of 'please' and 'thank you'. It was drummed into me as a child to the extent that it's automatic, and I seem to have passed that on to my children. My husband clearly wasn't taught to do so (albeit that his parents are otherwise polite and well-mannered). Nothing I say to him can get him to 'learn' it now, so I guess the formative years are the time to do it if you consider it important.

What a kind thing to say-- and it's so true. It's how we're brought up. Look at rude celebs out there. All the money in the world can't make them be nice. And then you have the celebs who do everything to help others... money must not be the deciding factor here! You've made a great point!
