Behavior in Restaurants?

Bring on the flames! This is just an opinion, but it seemed to me, on our last trip, many restaurants are squeezing in more tables to accomodate dining requests. Sometimes I felt I was "seated" with other groups of people and I confess I did become more aware of loud and sometimes obnoxious behavior that I otherwise would have ignored. We were also seated in one restaurant where we could (without trying for those of you thinking I can't MYOB;) see directly into the bathrooms. I don't think the behavior or situation had anything to do with the free dining plan, nor do I think people's manners coincide with their level of wealth. However, there are a couple of WDW restaurants we have decided not to patronize and I'm sorry to say that Le Cellier is one of them. I don't disagree with the OP or you other posters, just think the restaurants themselves have to take a bit of the blame.

I've heard that from other threads, especially about Le Cellier. I dislike being crowded and I don't care if it's McDonalds or the Savoy. It won't matter how good the food is if you have to listen to "Uncle Joe" belch at the next table six inches away or listen to how to get rid of athletes foot. Giving diners some personal space is very much an asset to a enjoyable meal. As for manners, your parents either taught you or they didn't.

Great-- one of the few ressies we were able to make was Le Cellier for our final night of the trip. I hate to hear that I will sit on the lap of the other guests! I'm bummed...

I know exactly what you meant & I realize you meant no harm as well..

interesting point well taken

sometimes I feel that other posters love to be like tigers...pounce on people who have not been here so long or whom have a different opinion.

I for one value your opinion as do many others on this board It brings a new and refereshing aspect to the group.

keep those opinions coming

I am sorry if it sounded like I was being judgemental, I wasn't. I meant that more people would be eating in otherwise quieter restaurants, and we would be more likely to experience people with bad manners.

I wasn't watching them so closely, it was just that they were loud and obnoxious and calling attention to themselves.

I didn't mean to offend anyone.

I'm curious to know how you knew that family of 8 was on free dining??

One thing I learned early on in life was that those with the most money are sometimes the cheapest!! My dh's boss about 12 years ago was a multi-millionaire, but ate at the Pizza Hut buffet every day for lunch.

We are on free dining, and will bring our good manners along with us!

I ate at LeCellier last week and didn't feel I was sitting too close to another table. Food and service was excellent. If I had read this thread prior to my visit I would have probably been more attune to my surroundings but I found absolutely nothing wrong with the restaurant. I highly recommend the shrimp cocktail. One of the nicest presentations and utterly delicious if you like food with a bit of bite.

I also had dinner at Concourse and didn't feel I was on top of the other diners. I was worried going in about the possible noise from Chef Mickey's but it wasn't an issue. This was another great dining experience.

The only restaurant I have every felt cramped in is Cantina San Angel in the Mexican Pavilion. Those tables are very tight....but I love the atmosphere so much that we keep going back (for lunch only).

I'm so glad to hear this! I want our last meal on vacation to be memorable-- but for GOOD reasons! :-)

Not an upscale restaurant by any means.......but at Red Lobster we had a little boy at the table behind us keep throwing food at us!!! Didn't they wonder why their biscuits were gone???? We must have gotten 4, a piece of chicken, several fries and finally his sippy cup! I don't think it matters if the dining is free or you pay some people are just clueless!

With the dining plans that now offer "free" meals to people who include it in there vacation plans, has anyone noticed a decline in people's behavior in the nicer restaurants?

This is one of the reasons we think about when choosing where to eat. We love LeCellier, but once we had a family of about 8 (only 2 or 3 children) and the adults acted like they had never been out to eat! Table manner were poor, they were loud and demanding and complaining about everything. Now, we are not going to cross LeCellier off our list, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this?

Just my 2 cents. Bad behavior is not limited to income level or restuarants. The stewardess on Continental came back to compliment me on my 7 yr old son's manners. My son stopped her in the aisle to thank her for his drink. She said no one in her 12 yrs of being a flight attendant has ever chased after her to thank her. She couldn't believe how polite ds was. This is just the way he is. BTW he chews with his mouth closed.

PamMulan, i knew you didn't mean to be offensive you were just asking a question. My CM friend that works at a table service restaurant in MGM has said the same thing, but of course not of everyone just that it seemed to be getting more crowded due to free dining and some people were just plain obnoxious. (more so than normal) This of course was just his op too. I guess we too will see we are going with paid dining in October

We didn't let our kids misbehave last week during our "free dining" meals. Nor did we let them misbehave during the additional meals we paid out of pocket.
I couldn't tell who was getting "free" meals either. No one had their head temporarily tattooed with "Free Dining." Our KTTW card was the same color as the one we've always gotten on other trips. Even the waiters and waitresses treated us the same as other diners! In fact, not one even asked us before we ordered if we were getting "free" food.
I'm sure most of us on the free dining had been in restaurants prior to going to WDW and knew how to appropriately behave. I'm sure the one child that I did see out of control in one of the dozen restaurants we ate in WDW probably behaves like that when he's not in WDW. His overly permissive parents seemed to care less that he ran wildly around their table as wait staff carried trays full of hot food, that he beat the metal chair with a knife over and over again, and that he tried to tackle and trip the characters and pull their tails. Then again, maybe they thought us "free diners" would think that was appropriate restaurant behavior!
In all sincerity, I did not notice any difference in behavior than what you'd see in a WDW restaurant on any other trip.

I'm usually so busy watching my own three at Disney restaurants that I couldn't tell you much about any other tables or guests.

Wow. they must have had free food. I'm gonna go to Red Lobster to get some.

Taken literally, the OP is correct. With more people who ordinarily couldn't afford to eat at sit-down restaurants now taking advantage of the dining plan, it's logical (and mathematically sound) that more uncouth as well as well-mannered guests are eating. It's very easy to spot people who have no table manners at any restaurant, whether it's McDonald's or Victoria & Albert's, and it's got nothing to do with per capita income. I don't see why so many people are miffed by the OP's remark.

Perhaps the OP wasn't implying anything about wealth or lack thereof...
In a perfect world we would all have impeccable manners at any meal, but the truth is that people's behavior may be different when they are paying for their family's $150+ meal as opposed to receiving it for "free". This applies whether they could have afforded that meal on their own or not.
I put free in quotes because when Disney gets the money months in advance for an entire resort stay and park tickets (aka the package) they probably earn some nice interest on that money... That's hardly giving away the food.

Unfortunately, the risk one takes whenever one dines out is being seated next to a group who communicates at a higher decibel level than most. I guess as long as they are wearing pants, I can deal with the rest of the stuff.

This is an interesting and funny thread, and I am going to go out on a limb here:

Manners in general is shifting downwards everywhere, not just WDW. I notice it just about everywhere. I have seen more instances of road rage in person, arguing at queues and particularly at airports. Why scream at the ticket counter if the weather is bad or if the plane is delayed? For those who travel they know what I mean...

Saying thank you or please is something you do not hear much anymore. Why is that?

My next statement may get parents angry at me, but I have seen many parents at restaurants letting the kids get away with stuff that I often wonder do these kids do this at home?? If yes is the home a candidate for the "Worst... " make over show on TLC.

Please no flames... this is JMHO on the topics of lack of manners!! Getting to be the top of my pet peeves list!
