Beginning to dislike Verizon

Boy I am glad I went ahead earlier in the year and got my LG chocolate touch phone from Verizon when I did so that I would not have to pay an extra 10 bucks a month for the internet. They are really screwing people over now. Me an my daughter's phone both now require the internet purchase, but since we already have it, it won't apply to us. They have changed all thier plans around to make more money. I guess we will from now on have to buy the less desireable models so that we won't have to pay for the internet. I am beginning to dislike Verizon. Right now I pay around 115.00 a month for 4 lines, with 700 minutes and unlimited text. If we had to pay for an small internet package on all phones that number would jump to 155.00 a month. And if it were unlimited internet it would skyrocket to 235.00a month. It makes me wonder if the older phones on Ebay, like the razor, will possibly go up in value now.

I just got a new phone last week that is internet capable but they didn't charge me the $10 to include an internet fee. My plan didn't change at all in fact. I'm still on the cheapest $39.99 plan they have. (I don't text)

You must have the same plan that I do. My DH and DS would both like new phones but the ones they choose require the data package. I don't want to pay for that! So for now everyone is using their old phone and I may just have to find a new carrier after 16 years with Verizon.

We just experienced the $10 internet fee. My DH got an Envy Touch back in Nov. & hates a touch so he & DS went into the store to just trade phones & we ended up having to add the $10 fee so DS could use the phone. What a rip off! We didn't want it for internet but said it couldn't be done w/o the extra $10 now. That phone now requires internet to be used. :confused3I'm seriously thinking of just getting DS another phone on ebay to get rid of the $10 fee. DS really wants the phone but that's ridiculous.

I was just talking to somone about this yesterday. My sister in law just told me about the $10 data package that is required with most of their phones. We don't need any new phones right now, but we also will be getting the phones that do not require a data package. We have 4 lines also with 1400 minutes and our bills are high enough already!! I certainly can not add another $40 to the bill!!

I posted a piece where you can now be a BlackBerry owner/full user for $60 a month.

Seems it got swept away by a bunch of other posts (and here I was thinking it was a big-time money saver!),

Well me and my husband can do without the latest and greatest phones, but my teenager will always want that. I am sure Verizon in onto that too. Now it is just 10 bucks a month, but what happens when it goes to 15, 20 or more bucks a month. I do think that the older models on ebay will go up in value at some point.

It really depends on what you've got whether this is worth it and whether or not the $60 is the FINAL price or if you still have tax and fees and such after that. Both dh and I have blackberry's with verizon and our plan cost about $130 for both phones before tax etc gets added in.

This is largely because all phones will be internet phones soon. When we go to trade in 2 years there may not be "regular" phones available......

AT & T has the same policy. I went in January to trade in my phone and there were very few phones that didn't require an additional data fee. Crazy!!

That is so true. I am afraid that cell phone service cost may just keep going up. I got a thing in the mail the other day about my Dish Network service is fixin to go up.:headache:

:sad2::sad2:It is just ten bucks now, but just wait till the ten dollar fee is fifteen or twenty and the unlimited amount jumps from 30 to 40 to 50!!!!!!!!!!

$10.00 internet fee/cell phone ... $15.00-$25.00 checked luggage fee/airline ... new credit card annual fee ... I think there might be a pattern here ... nickle and dime the consumer = $$$$$ profit ... :teacher:

OP, I completely agree with you. I have been a Verizon Wireless customer for about 12 years and I just got to the point in my contract when I could upgrade my phone. I was shocked to find that even though I could get a decent phone for free, I would have to pay $10 more per month to use it. No thank you. Over a 2 year contract that comes to $240 for a service that I do not need. I'll just keep my old phone until it dies and then buy a no-contract one. I have to stay with Verizon for another 1.5 years because my dd and dh just got new phones last summer, but when their contracts are up we are going to have to do some serious reevaluating.

Which telephone did you get? And are you happy with it. For the time being, we have decided to not upgrade our telephones even though we can.

So did you recently get your Blackberrys or did you get them before the new "required" data plan. Because I thought that Blackberrys now required the $29 data plan on top of your regular phone plan.

It stinks...I am running on a phone right now that IF I were to go in and buy it now I would have to get the internet. We are running out our contract and then RUNNING out of Verizon. We are going to move over to AT&T, their plans are cheaper and we can get the iPhone! The next 6 months won't go by soon enough!

That IS our price with the $30 required data plan per phone. We have a family plan ($60/month for 2 lines), 2 data plans, and unlimited texts (the other $10)

We got our blackberrys last summer. It was b1g1.

Taxes/fees are built-in the price, because it's a prepaid (no-contract) phone.

I have the cheapest Verizon plan, or actually it's DH's I have a trac fone...it's 25.99 and its 100 anytime minutes and free nights and weekends. We used to pay 19.99 forever and I mean forever he got his first cell phone in 1991. We always stayed on the same plan. Then I couldn't get a new phone anymore so we had to jump to the 25.99 plan to get a new phone. For our 1991 plan we only had 100 anytime minutes and free weekends...we got the free nights w/the 25.99 plan. I hate cell phones!!

Add me to the list of fed up!
My DBF have 2 lines together. His Razr fell in the water and was no good. So, he picked out a new phone. They NEVER told him they were charging him $10 more per month, or anything about a data package. So, when we got our bill and it was $20 higher I called and complained. The girl I got on the phone said it was within the 30 days and to bring the phone back in. Then she tried to sell me another phone!!!! UUUGGGHHHH!

So, my DBF took the phone back in and said he wants a phone without the data package. They told him they only have a couple phones like that and the phones don't work very well. So, he told them to turn back on an old old phone he had. Problem solved.

We were Alltel customers until Verizon bought out our numbers/contract. So, when my contract is up we are OUT of Verizon. Verizon will be out on their Herizon.
