Hi! When you have booked your date but you haven't yet signed your LOA does that mean your date/time/location is still available to others? And does Disney let you know if someone else is interested in the date etc that you want? We would like to book our photographer but we won't sign our LOA till October and I'm just a bit worried about losing our deposit if we lose the date. Thanks, as always, for any advice x:)

Hi Natalie,

From what I understand, until 16 months before your date, you are pencilled in and anybody else who wants your day is entered into a lottery with you. Once the 16 month range comes along, whoever wins the lottery wins the day.

After that, the date and site is pretty much yours. It does however say in the letter of agreement that if someone comes along and wants the same things you want, they will grant you a certain amount of time to sign your LOA and extra time to pay your deposit before they release your space to those people.

So lets say someone comes to them tomorrow and says hey i want that site on this day, Disney will let you know and will give you three days to sign the LOA and 2 weeks to send the deposit.

Hope this is helpful and I hope I'm not wrong. I'm new to this!

Hi, thanks for your reply. We are now 14 months to our date but I was told we can't sign the LOA until 12 months out (which will be October this year). I think it is because our reception site is a convention centre. Do you think that if someone was interested in our date they would let us sign early, being as we are less than 16 months out? :confused3

I think that would be the case. Because normally when you get your LOA, you have a week or so to send it back with money. In the case you are describing, they give you two weeks to pay but only three days to send the LOA back.

Are you booking an escape or wishes event? If it's a wishes event you can book and get your LOA sent to you at 16 months but it's 12 months for an escape.

I explained the booking situation to my photographer and he told me that he'd return my deposit if we didn't get our date and he wasn't available for our new date.

Maybe just talk to your photographer and then when you're signing the contract make sure whatever you agree upon is in the contract.

Hi. We are Wishes. We got 'booked/pencilled in' at the 16 month but was I was told we can't sign the LOA until the 12 month mark. I think it is because we want Whitehall for the reception. I'm just confused as to whether or not our date and time etc is confirmed for the ceremony and it's just the reception space that cannot be guaranteed until 12months (hope that makes sense). I'll email my sales co-ordinator and see what they say. Thanks.

To answer your original question, if you have a tentative hold, no other couples can take your spot for now.
If you are interested in reception venues in conference settings, conferences can take those spots as they have preference for booking.

If you are flexible with the location for your reception and can deal with having it at your second choice on the same day if a conference comes along. I would go and contract photographers now.

If a change of venue for your reception is something you are not willing to compromise and you would move your date for I would wait until you signed your LOA.

Thanks for the reply. We are flexible on the reception location for sure. So if I understand correctly it is just the reception location that we may lose, not the ceremony location/time/date. Thanks for the advice, I will contact the photographer :thumbsup2

As long as you have received the tentative hold notice e-mail from your coordinator you should be fine.

When I was in LOA limbo I had the same questions.

Still it never hurts to double check with your coordinator.
It will save you stress and that's what they are there for.

My coordinator was a sweetheart and she always put my mind at ease, even when we had to go into lottery before we got our tentative hold on our date/time for ceremony venue.

When we got to the 16 month mark my coordinator said he had booked the date and location, which I am assuming means tentatively held, and that we would sign our LOA in October when we were at 12 months. I just wasn't sure if our date was still up for grabs until we had signed the LOA. I think I will drop him a quick email like you said. Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it :thumbsup2

We recently got penciled in as well (for a Wishes wedding), and I asked my sales consultant the same information. She told me that we would not lose our venues to another wedding couple, but it is a possibility with a convention client (until you put the deposit down at least). She had said they would usually just move you to a different ballroom at the same time. We are hoping for Atlantic Dance Hall, so she said we had less to worry about there since it wasn't a convention space. We are penciled in. Fingers crossed (for all of us)!

Hey, thanks for the info. Fingers crossed for us all too! I was just concerned about paying the non-refundable deposit to the photographer and then losing our date. When are you pencilled in for? :thumbsup2

We are penciled in for 12/3/2011! Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't think that December would be a popular month for conventions. Hope that's the case!

Good news! Got an email back from my coordinator and we are confirmed for our date! Yay! Can get the photographer booked now! :)
