I have very fond memories of the old Disney Village. My family stayed at the Viscount in 1988, and my twin brother and I went to a character breakfast on the Empress Lilly for our 8th birthdays. Everyone sang to us, and Goofy signed my hat, a special moment for me
It was also nice because I remember walking from the Viscount to the village. I remember lots of trees...it was so pretty back then. I also remember a playground that my siblings, cousins, and I played on that same day as my birthday breakfast.
Even as late as 1996, on my high school band trip to WDW, it was kind of a "secret." BB had just opened, and everyone was ready to do something else pretty early, so I suggested shopping at the village. People looked at me like, "What the heck are you talking about?"
Weird. It really is unrecognizable now. The one thing that is depressing is how all the merchandise at DTD is the same...why bother having different stores (same goes for theme parks lately, too). I am particularly saddened by how they have really pared down the offerings at "Disney Tails," which is now a cheap extension of the Under $15 store, or whatever it is. I love picking up stuff there for my cats, but it's the same leftover stuff they first offered, with a lot missing.
Okay, rant over
