This was on our local news last night: Beetle bodies are processed and used to color foods such as "red and orange food coloring in Tropicana's Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice and its Orange Strawberry Banana Juice. And yogurts like Dannon's Fruit on the Bottom Boysenberry and Yoplait's Thick and Creamy Low Fat Strawberry. Even Good and Plenty candies have beetle coloring in them, a fact many people wish they didn't know." :crazy2: I used to love Good and Plenty!!

oh my goodness...

i am not too sure how i feel about that

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :worried:

REALLY :scared1: :rolleyes2 YUCKY. I wonder if there are any other articles out there to back this up.

It's called carmine or cochineal extract and you've probably been eating it since you were little. I don't see what the big deal is... :confused3

Most people eat many worse things in the course of the day.

My first thought when I saw this on the news was ewwwww. After thinking about it I do eat shrimp, crab, etc and they're as gross looking as any bug mmmm yummy! :teeth:

They're actually a marine version of an arachnid, so technically, it's spider-licious!

Lobstah! Love it!

Yuck. I guess vegans and vegetarians can't drink that juice or eat that yogurt. Harming the poor beetle for food coloring. :(

My DH read me the article just after I'd bought some grapefruit juice, which is still sitting in the fridge. :rotfl: And I love Good & Plenty, especially when driving.

Hey, now I have a title for a new thread... "Am I a hypocrite if, as a vegetarian, I drink grapefruit juice that is colored with beetles?". Could be better than my leather thread! :teeth:

I'm assuming you were trying to be funny, but why on Earth would you want to make fun of someone who believes strongly in not hurting other living beings??? You don't have to agree with it, but of all the reasons to make fun of someone, this is pretty weak.
